    ]-} Welcome to the Song Parody Challenge!! ]-}

This challenge is designed for those poor, doomed, creative souls that can?t help but get a song stuck in their heads...and change the words!

All you have to do is choose a song, any song, and change the words depending on the challenge that you are given. For example, if the challenge is "Anakin and Padme," you could choose "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and change the words so that the song is about Anakin and Padme. I?m not sure how well that particular example would work, but you get the idea. :p

Qui-Gon Reborn is running the sock. She will post challenges periodically, depending upon how much Lord Real Life has eroded her defenses that week, and the players' responses.

    Teh Rules

    1. Try and pick a song that most people know. That?ll make voting for the winner a whole lot easier, not to mention increase your chances of winning!

    2. Make sure that the original words to the song that you chose are clean and TOS-friendly. That helps us avoid a multitude of complications that will most certainly spoil everybody?s good time.

    3. Similarly, please make sure that your current, improvised words are TOS-friendly.

    4. The length of the song doesn?t matter, but use your best judgment when deciding which song to use. Are most people likely to appreciate a four-line song?

    5. After the due date, users will be given 48 hours to vote for their favorite entry. Votes should be PM-ed to the sock.

    6. The winner does not receive colors, but earns the right to brag to the whole JCF that they?ve got the creativity to
join the ranks of Weird Al!

    7. Any questions should be PM-ed to the sock.

    8. Yes, the rules are simple, but this is in the best interests of making everybody's life nice and easy.

    9. Have fun!

    Challenge 1: Our Wars

We all love Star Wars, otherwise we wouldn?t be here! Change the words to any song so that the song is about Star Wars in real life.

This first challenge is really up to you. The song could be about your love of Star Wars, how Star Wars changed your life, Star Wars as a form of escape, Star Wars fans, why you love Star Wars...anything that you can think of pertaining to Star Wars and real life.

Here and here are some examples of parodied work to get you thinking.

You have until Monday, March 9, 2009 to post your work in this thread.

Good luck, and may the Force be with you! ;)

... I felt... compelled to do this... the song I chose is "My Town" by Montgomery Gentry....so, without further ado....

There's a "For Sale" sign on a big old trusty Falcon
You can't miss it, it was built in 1983
Just two listing down, a pale-blue vinyl ronto
With "I Love Jenny" Sharpied in bright green
Hey, that's vintage marvel, there by the ewok house
I'll be buying it all, before the listing goes down
    And this is my fandom

    (Na, na, na, na.)
    Yeah, this is my fandom
    (Na, na, na, na.)
    Hey!
Where I buy, Where I read
Where I keep all my figurines
Where I ranted off 'cos I got mad,
And it came to flames over one old man
Where I came back to read a new book
It's where Dark Horse wants me to give one more look:
    This is my fandom.
    (Na, na, na, na.)
    Yeah, this is my fandom
    (Na, na, na, na.)
    My fandom

There ain't much goin' on here since they released those stills.
But there's a new ebay ev'ry day at noon.
A bunch of us still gather, at the forums and clatter
I wonder if the live-action is still comin' soon
Come the Celebration service, in a few years
Well, the 501st will sure there to be found
    And this is my fandom

    (Na, na, na, na.)
    Yeah, this is my fandom

You can't miss it, it's sittin' right there in my yard
The County came and gave me a ticket
Oh hey! It's Han in that Tatooine bar.
Ah, we're off to Celebration service, it' just next year,
And if we want a hotel, we better book right now.

With apologies to Glen Campbell and Wichita Lineman:

I am an admin on some forums
and I read through all the threads
Lookin' in the posts for another user to ban

I sense them typing on their keyboards
I can see who's been online
And the Star Wars Tech Admin
    Is always on line

I know I've been here for forever
    But the spammers always come
And if a troll gets loose our nice forums
    Won't feel much like home

So I edit all the bad words
And ban the spammers - today nine
And the Star Wars Tech Admin
    Is forever on line

Most sincere apologizes to Jon Bon Jovi?s Wanted Dead or Alive. And to Bon Jovi himself, of course.

They?re never the same, even the names will change
Everyday it seems I?m spending away
Another place where the original Luke Skywalker isn?t sold
    I'd drive all night
    Just to get that Han

    I'm a collector, in a steel truck I drive
They?re wanted, just one or five
    Wanted, just one or five

Sometimes I buy, sometimes it's not for days
And the trusty store-employees I meet always go their separate ways
    Sometimes you tell the day
By the date on your receipt
And times when you're staring at your collection, even though you need to eat

    I'm a collector, in a steel truck I drive
They?re wanted, just one or five
    Wanted, just one or five

I walk these isles, a loaded wallet in my bag
I buy for keeps, 'cause there might be ?no returns?
I been everywhere, still I'm buying all
    I've seen a million figurines
    And I've got them all

    I'm a collector, in a steel truck I ride
They?re wanted, just one or five
I'm a collector, I got the clerks on my side
They?re wanted, just one or five
    Wanted, just one or five

    Now for the next challenge...

Star Wars fans love a good bad guy. From Sith Lords to bounty hunters, we never run out of evil-doers that we love to hate and hate to love.

Write a song about the bad guys of Star Wars. It can be about a specific bad guy, a group of bad guys, or just bad guys in general. The songs are due on Friday, March 20. Have fun!

Song parodies are such an underappreciated genre, and I totally meant to reply to this in the first round. However, I'm going to submit an entry. In the interest of full disclosure, I posted a version of this nearly three years ago, but recently I went through it again and rewrote large portions of it and added an encore. It's about bad guys, and I love it, so even if you decide it shouldn't count I'm okay with it. I'm just happy to have an excuse to post the updated version. :D

As always, with apologies to Gilbert & Sullivan.

Oh Commander...[face_laugh] That was fantastic! I just had to play the song and try your lyrics for myself.

And I couldn't resist, I had to try my own hand at this. With apologies to Willie, and On the Road Again...

    We lost again.
I can?t believe that we have lost again.
Despite two death stars and a billion men,
I can?t believe the Sith lost all again.

    We lost again
I can?t believe that we have lost again.
Vader?s brain flipped out and his limbs got real bent,
I can?t believe the Sith have lost all again.

    We lost it all again,
Disembodied ghost turned twerp to Jedi man.
    And his stupid friends
Blasted Endor?s base and then our big shield went away.
    And because of that,
    We lost it all again.
By the Force, we lost it all again.
The Sith?s Empire will fade away again.
I can?t believe we lost it all again.

    We lost it all again,
With broken dreams now we?ll fade back to hist?ry.
    Because we lost again,
We?ll plot revenge till things finally go our way.
    And our way
    Is not to win again
No we?ll never ever ever win again,
Makes me glad I cloned myself on the planet Byss
But I can?t see how we?ll ever win again.
No there?s no way that we?ll ever win again.
