    BBC News

Sony has been told to pay $90.7m (£48m) in damages and stop selling PlayStation consoles in the United States after losing a patent infringement lawsuit.

Sony said it would appeal the decision, stemming from a 2002 case brought by US firm Immersion, and would continue to sell its products pending the hearing.

If you are planning to buy a US PS2, now might be the time...

If it's about the vibration, why didn't they sue Nintendo? Or Microsoft? Or one of the makers of rumble gamepads?

Somehow I don't see the Playstation going off the shelves.

As far as I know, Microsoft settled and was looking in to buying the company. Nintendo I'm not sure. Then again if I was gunning for one company to pay me I'd go after the one with most units sold.

He's not late. Sony appealed and lost, which was the subject of that news article.

And they are still appealing so nothing has changed.

All that hub-bub over the Vibration Shock in the controllers. I hardly think anyone was persuaded to buy a PS2 because of the vibrating controllers. I didn't know such a thing existed when I bought mines, and I think it would become some what of a detterent really, I know a lot of people who just take them off.

Ever since I became aware of vibrating controllers, the inside of my pants have been quite pleased. Wireless controllers that rumble, best invention ever. So much better then the spin cycle on my washing machine. [face_mischief]

It doesn't matter if they invented it or not. If someones got the patent on it you can't sell it.

Sony wouldn't stop selling PS2's in the US.

Worse case is that they would have to include controlers that didn't vibrate or develope a different system to cause the vibration.

This one's not a hoax. The link to the news article on the BBC website is in the top post.
