Sound distortion (telephone)

    does anyone know how distort a sound file (speech) in premiere preferably to make it sound like its coming from a telephone or speeker???

    I don't know about Premiere, but this is a good free sound editing program.

    The easiest way is to down sample a file (to about 11250) then upsample back to the track quality. Or you could get a software that utilizes filters to acheive the effect... If you use windows you could use the wave recorder to generate the effect using method one.

    Just pop the sound file in an equalizer, drop the lows...some of the highs, raise the mids a bit...tweak to your liking and you've got a phoneish replication.

    Play the sound through a phone and re-record it.

    Probably useless to you, but Audition has an FFT filter that makes a phone sound. The shape in the frequency domain is roughly a squre wave, with the high and low frequencies cut off via an exponentialish decay curves.

    Take phone, put microphone up to earpiece, talk through phone from another room.

    Works every time :) Authentic phone effect!!

    Sound Forge has the setting for a Phone in the 3 equalizations.
