Does anyone else put together "soundtracks" to write their fics by? Are there any pieces of music that are great to write action scenes to? Romantic scenes? Tragic scenes? Am I completely alone? :)

    No, you are not.

I usually listen to soft stuff like Milla and Dido and and the Moulin Rouge soundtrack and Simon and Garfunkel for love scenes.

For extremely heart wreching scenes, I do Creed or Collective Soul or something like that.

For action, I usually go with 3 doors down, 3rd eye blind, stuff in that area.

For regular, I just go with what appeals to me in my current mood.

I believe the choice of soundtrack to listen to would not depend solely upon the current setting or mood, but the type of story, the timeframe considerations, the true natures of the characters involved, and perhaps even the ultimate outcome of the tale.

On the darker side of my stories or on the romantic angle, I listen to the LotR soundtrack. For the action scenes, I like Creed or the Indiana Jones soundtrack.

Does anyone else here listen to Gregorian chant?

I also listen to red hot chili peppers, no doubt, and my beloved proclaimers CD.

I love Gregorian chants! I thought I was the only one here! :D

I tend to have a "soundtrack" of instrumental music (usually from movies like Lord of the Rings or The Fifth Element) as well as Gregorian chants and the like. On the other hand, I also have a whole bunch of songs that I find help me with certain moods. For example, depending on what kind of romantic mood I want, I might use Richard Ashcroft's "A Song for the Lovers", Savage Garden's "To the Moon and Back", Bryan Adams's "Everything I Do", Mick Jagger's "Visions of Paradise", The Bay City Rollers's "I Only Want to Be With You", Sarah MacLachlan's "Fumbling Toward Ecstasy", "Sting's "Desert Rose", or even Sister Hazel's "Champagne High". I like to organize my music, although the rest of my life is another story. :)

Nope, you're not alone; I do put together Soundtracks for my stories, and even asign certain songs to particular posts, and yes even characrters too. ;) Here is the soundtrack to my latest completed fic, Dark Spirits:

    Dark Spirits Soundtrack:

    1) Theme from Terminator 2__________Prologue Theme
    2) #41 ? Dave Mathews Band__________Kelak and Dejirra Together
    3) Sanitarium ? Metallica__________Judgment of Luisse
    4) Don?t Drink the Water ? Dave Matthews Band__________Jadis? Theme
    5) Battle of Gall ? SOTE__________Evacuating the Yuuzhai
    6) ?Human ? Metallica__________Netherworld Theme
    7) Place For My Head ? Linkin Park__________Ruin in Training
    8) Blitzkrieg ? Metallica__________Kelak vs. Ruin
    9) The Space Between ? Dave Matthews Band__________Kelak and Dejirra Reunited
    10) Evacuation ? Armageddon__________Maul confronts Vader
    11) Navy Seals? Theme ? The Rock__________Battle Royale
    12) A Change of the Heart ? The Grinch__________Maul Encounters the Force
    13) X-men Movie Theme__________The Final Battle/Maul hears the Force
    14) Papercut ? Linkin Park__________Ruin?s Theme
    15) Angels Unaware ? Michael W. Smith__________Adja?s Theme

I like to mix contemporary music with classical or other instrumental music in my themes. Both have there own strenghts, whether they be in lirics or in music themes.
