VIDEO Source Code Released for Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy

Game developer Raven has released the complete source code for both Jedi Outcast and its sequel, Jedi Academy, for free, as a tribute to their former publishing partner LucasArts.

That's pretty awesome! I really liked Jedi Acadamy and I'm hoping that someone will pick up the code and do something great with it. For those interested, it's being published under the GNU GPL V2 license, which means that any derivative works must be free though fees can be charged for physical distribution. Oh, and I expect there will be people out there who'll compile it and upload it somewhere. It's just a matter of time.

Yay! Now getting mods going will be less of a pain in the ass!

I'm hoping we see someone put out a complete graphical and animation overhaul of the games, because these games have not aged well.

 

I still love their look!

 

You know, even if nothing else ever came of it, this alone would make the LucasArts closure a net positive. This is the best news in Star Wars gaming I've seen in years.

 

Bonus Points: I just looked at some of the code, and its fully commented. Most helpful of them.

ok, this is pretty awesome for sure. academy was one of the most played xbox games me and my brother have... i can't even COUNT how many hours and bot battles and times we played through the campaign. i think we got to where we could take out pretty much max level bots in a few strokes because we knew the controls so freaking well. hope something cool comes of this.

 

Somebody here had to have downloaded the code. This thread has been up long enough.

Maybe a disgruntled employee put them up...

 

Apparently they accidentally uploaded some proprietary code they weren't supposed to(Bink video encoding stuff), so they had to take it down. Presumably they will upload a cleaned version of the code later on.

Crap, i should have downloaded it while i had the chance.. I was afraid it would be taken down, but assumed it probably woulnd't :/
