JCC South Park in its 17th season?! Maybe I should watch it now?

I have watched a few of the episodes over the years, but I've never been a loyal fan. I appreciate the satire, however indiscreet. I do also think it's pretty funny. I even have a dead Kenny baseball cap. Just noticed that this show is in its 17th season (went on a whim to the south park studios website and there are 17 seasons of episodes available there). I reckon, since too many shows are here today and gone tomorrow, with the longevity this show has, perhaps it's worthy of a closer look?

Good to know. As I said. I have never watched more than a few episodes (those in high school or early college at that), so my opinion is practically nonexistent. That is the reason for this thread. I'm looking forward to a variety of opinion.

i hate this show. how it's managed to go on for 17 seasons is beyond me.

If Wocky hates it, it usually means it's pretty good. Especially when the reason is that it's "crude". Sounds like something my grandmother would say.

 

Perhaps crude is a positive. Like I said in the original post, the blatant satire is pretty funny to me. It seems to be successful at making fun of everything! Even themselves (some would say especially). If it is just toilet humor alone, then that is something that I would not want to watch at length. I like some toilet humor. It amuses me for a time. But the few episodes I have seen seem to have a keen awareness of things that are happening--not just in U.S. pop culture, but in geo-politics as well.

The later seasons have become a bit more topical than the earlier seasons were. It is no longer funny/weird situations, although those do still happen, many of the episodes offer commentary/satire of current events and trends but without losing the zany and off color humor of South Park.

Admittedly there are lulls here & there, not every bit of satire works or gets instantly dated, but on the whole it's still a great form of comedy without much limits; I'd love to watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (essentially a live action South Park) with Jabba-wocky.

 

IMO, yes. SP has a unique take on things that you don't see anywhere else and the characters still remain true to themselves.

 

Stupid show.

 

It's a wonderful experience (especially the movie), but DO NOT WATCH the second season. Save for one or two amusing episodes, it's a gigantic low point for the series.

A lot of the older seasons of SP I don't enjoy, but the past few have been pretty amazing. Definitely one of the more intellectual and well played comedies out there.

I think once I finish TCW soon, I will check it out. It seems to have enough of the "It's great!...It sucks!" that usually mean I'll like for me to think it's worth checking out.
