As a teenager in the first film, Tobey Maguire didn't look much like a teenager.

'Grease' 1978. NONE of the actors were teenagers. If one actually made a teen movie with actual teens the whole world would explode. Or at least get a serious investigation into child porn charges.

My issue isn't with an adult playing a teen, its that they don't even try to make him look more youthful. MAguire looks like an 30 something adult, even in highschool. Wocky may continually opine the look of Garfeild's character, but the unkempt hair and hoody/jeans/tshirt look are at least indicative of an everyday teenager.

I actually would really like to see what Wocky thinks a teenager looks like nowadays.

At risk of double posting, I feel I should verify my previous statement. The post is more saying "I can't believe I forgot that you would mention those, so I am countering with The Outsiders." Oh, and check this

That's an intriguing peek inside the set. An entire scene performed in front of our eyes. It also does the service of expelling a rumor or two about Uncle Ben.

    Hoooray, another origin story. [face_yawn]

Can't they just edit Martin Sheen out of the entire movie? Have Ben dead and gone already and just have Spider-man being Spider-man? And none of this "superhero has an identity crisis an is about to quit" crap either.

I guess you missed the whole "untold story" aspect.

President Bartlet is the only reason I'm entertaining seeing this movie in theaters. If I must sit through that origin again and I must hear "With great power" again, then at least it will be from a great actor. Plus, I don't think any thing will top Sheen's death scene in the Departed so I imagine I'll be less sad to see Ben go in this one. :p

So, anyone else noticed by now that Spider-Man seems to be a night-time superhero in this? Hey, Spider-Man! Turn off the dark!

Yes, how unusual for a superhero to patrol a city and fight crime at night.

I think his point, which I would agree with to some degree, is that they seem to be marketing this movie as a darker take on the character. I wouldn't go so far as to say they're actually going the "gritty realism reboot" route, but from the trailers and promotional material I've seen, the one joke as Spider-Man in the back seat of the car is the only hint that this will have a light tone to it. I hope I'm wrong, and the one or two interviews I've read seem to suggest that they are going to avoid the pitfalls of the 3rd movie. But...yeah...Spider-Man fights crime in broad daylight. He's funny. He's not very good at being a super-hero, but tries his damnedest anyway. And he prevails because he's smart and has more heart than all the adults around him. I don't see that in any of the previews yet. I'm reserving judgment, but it does make me nervous.

I don't see why they wouldn't, especially given the scene in the credits.

I suppose I should say here that I thought this movie was great. I actually enjoyed it way more than The Dark Knight Rises, believe it or not. I mean, at least the romantic leads had genuine chemistry in this one. And George Stacy's death was way more powerful and emotionally costly than Deputy Commissioner Foley's. I mean, WAY MORE.
