Spring 2006 Role Playing Forum Awards

It is my sincere joy, pleasure, and honour, to annouce and welcome you to the Spring season's RPF Awards. It it our very first ceremony to incorporate two forums filled with diverse RPGs, both of a Star Wars and non-Star Wars variety! Please be sure to read the entire post, as it contains a great deal of important information, which is exactly why it is rather lengthy.

Purpose of the Awards

Our forum is a unique one: fun, yet very challenging. It takes a great deal of hard work and dedication to build a successful game or navigate through the galaxy, or indeed, beyond its borders, with a character, or several of them. These awards have been established in recognition of the extraordinary efforts of our members. The VIPships and publicity awarded to winners are meant to serve as both a reward for a job well done and a way to increase visibility of these members, as guides and recognised specialists in their winning category. It is hoped that others will learn from their example, thus improving the forum overall, and enriching our great community.

How it works

Awards will be held four times per year, in April (Spring), July (Summer), October (Autumn) and January (Winter). Apologies to anyone who lives in a country where these seasons are reversed. We can't have it both ways, though I'm sure you're happy enough to join the celebrations regardless.

The four categories for awards are:
Best Game Master
Best Role Player
Best Role Playing Game
Best New Role Playing Game

New RPGs are defined as any active game less than three (3) months old, residing in only one (1) thread (ie, multi-thread games are not eligible for this category). RPGs must be active (ie, no locked threads may be nominated).

Voting will consist of two rounds. Round 1 will last for five (5) days after the opening of the Awards. During this time, anyone may nominate any active RPG or player. Once a thread/player has been nominated once, please refrain from nominating them again. One nomination is sufficient to save a spot on the ballot. Users may not nominate themselves for awards. All users may make a total of two (2) nominations per category, so choose wisely!

Round 2 begins immediately after the results of Round 1 are posted. A list of all the nominees will be compiled for members' pursuit. Members will have seven (7) days to PM their votes from the choices to the host. Users will have the option of voting for up to three (3) people in the Best RPer and best GM categories, and up to two (2) games in the Games categories.

At the end of Round 2, the winners will be announced.

It should also be noted that any RPG that wins an award becomes ineligible for next season's awards, to ensure fairness and variety. Any players who win awards will be ineligible until the next year.

The winning Game Master and Role Player will each be awarded VIPship (with the ability to choose custom colours) for one week. In addition, they will earn a place in the "RPF Hall of Fame" in the Community

Yes! I've been checking the boards every day waiting for this thread. Finally it has come.

Okay, here we go.

Non-SW RPF

Best GM: Abstain
Reason: All my nominations are either of the Moderate, or have won already.

Best Roleplayer: LadyFireStorm
Reason: As playing as The Dark Lady, a Nocturne in The Realm of Darkness, she has exhibited exceptional attention to detail. Her posts are lengthy, but not boring. To the point at the same time descriptive. She drives a good portion of the RPG ahead, and makes for interesting interactions in the future. My nomination goes to her.

Best RPG: Ultimate Fantasy
Reason: Spanning the entire board, this RPG is the IBOP of the Non-SW forums. It is run by very experienced GMs and Mods. Looks to stand the test of time and allow everyone to enjoy a full, diverse world of RPing.


Best New RPG: The Realm of Darkness: Ultimate Fantasy
Reason: A good opening plotline, good players, and a dip to the dark side, so to speak. It gives a scope of evil and just bad, and makes everyone involved in it anxious to continue. Lack of activity as of late has slowed things down, but it should pick up very soon.



The Old School RPF

Best GM: Darth_Nemisis
Reason: After taking the reins of the small squad of two Sith Apprentices and one Sith hopeful, he expertly crafted and controlled a very intricate excursion into the tombs of Korriban. With only four players, he has guided and kept the action flowing through a firefight with a squad of heavily armed battle droids, a three way fork in the road with cryptic writing as the only way of telling the true path, and a heated, fast paced battle with more than half a dozen Tarentateks (Jedi Killers). And the team still has a long way to go. I've even had other players of the RPG PM me personally with interest in the actions of our team, which is in competition with them. Said player actually seemed to wish they had joined up with our ragtag group. For his good planning, team playing, and excellent execution, I nominate him.

Best Roleplayer: Fistofthedarklord
Reason: This was the hardest one for me to choose. I looked over every single player I work with and/or know to be skilled. It came down to me digging through my own young RPG, Galactic Outlaws, to find someone. I finally came to the conclusion that he would be my nomination. He weaves an intricate story into his posts, even if some borderline Godmod. He's also posting with such ferocity to keep me on my toes, and make it look like I take weeks to respond. His constant attention to the RPG at hand keep me always busy, and I enjoy that.

Best RPG: Passage Into Darkness: The Sith Trials
Reason: After the meeting called by the Dark Lord Vassago, this RPG sprang into an in depth mission. After that the primary Game Master divied responsibility out to his Dark Marauder and Assassin. They took the RPG from there, dividing the Sith into two seperate groups and being sent out in search of ancient Sith Tablets. Both teams have had pitfalls along the way, and are still trudging ahead toward their goal.

Best New RPG: The Tin Cabinet
Reason: Strange that I didn't nominate my own RPG, but that's rather shallow in my eyes. This RPG looks to have an excellent run. It's smart, quick, and has an excellent cast of characters. There are famous RPers from this forum as well as people who I've never played with or even really seen. It looks to make the game fun and exciting. My vote goes to DarthSeti5's game on this one.
