Actually, this thread is upsetting me.

 

In Oxford there was a law where if you ran over a pheasant, you weren't allowed to stop and pick it up... but the car behind could... and not to save it's life neither.. it was a kind of foraging exercise...

 

i'd have taken it home, theres good eatin on a squirel.

 

does that mean everybody drives around in pairs in Oxford? Like a tag team?

 

I got an email at easter that was related to this.

Even now I'm disturbed by how amused I was by it.

It was a pic of a road kill rabbit with all broken coloured eggs and a basket. the caption was 'due to circumstances beyond out control, Easter has been cancelled this year'.

I know it's pretty sick and I shouldn't laugh but I just can't help it!

Pigeons seem to always get flattened by cars, the london pigeons are so in your face they never move off the road. You end up driving at 10 mph trying to avoid it. its a mind game with those things!

Neil was up from Glasgow the other week and me and Kirsty and him was in the car, where Neail was living out his ususal grand prix fantasies by taking us along the Tomintoul road at about 105mph and going over all these hills to lift the car up. Then all of a sudden he was going too fast and almost missed a corner and sent us all flying off the cliff. So he quickly cut onto the other side of th road and mooshed a rabbit It was horrible feeling it under the wheels

Oh and he almost droive straight into an owl that night too.

If pigeons get in the way, tough... flea infested skankbags of the sky... not that you get many on the roads out our way... it's mostly badgers, squirrels, pheasants and rabbits... there was a deer the other day though... and yesterday there was a Vauxhall Cavalier on it's back...

ED: Did Neil drive a white Vauxhall Cavalier?

 

I don't think I would get in a car with Neil.

 

I'd like to add to Chet's comments and ask you, Andy, never to travel with him driving again neither.. sounds like he's gonna kill himself and whoever is in the car with him one day soon... I drive fast, but that's scaring me...

 

Nemco - I did hear it pop

It all happened in slo-mo...it gave me a tense nervous headache...lil squirrel darted into the other side of the road...

I felt sick

It ran towards my car

I closed my eyes (not advisable while driving - so I opened them again)

It ran back the way it came

I breathed a sigh of relief

A car came the other way, the squirrel turned round and ran @ my car again

I screamed - it popped

I had Nam-style nightmares about it. Thank god it never waved @ me.

it might not have waved at you TTg, but it did stare at you willing your car to turn into a cloud. Did it look you in the eyes?

 

yep i can tell ya it's the waving that gets me, but I suppose you'll never forget the pop.

Sounds like I'm the only person to have avoided wildlife on the roads so far then. Dad's run over a couple of rabbits during journies though...

 

Now you guys have done it! I'm getting all nostalgic about my old post!
I used to walk through a cemetry to get to the hospital where I worked - and there used to be lots of squiggles in there, very much alive.

That would be my five minutes of happiness in a very cr@ppy day!

Running over things - I confess to squishing a bunny It was pouring with rain, it was dark and it was on an evil bend, but I heard and felt the thump.

Since we've moved I live in fear of one of our cats (madder than a box of badgers the pair of them!) getting run over. Bits crossed!

 

So Mat, you've never squished a fly on the roads? You've never run over a frog or a mouse? It's pretty much impossible to tell these things, flies especially, cos you don't know that you have even though you've smooshed about 100 in 5 minutes. I hate it when the big ones go splat on your windscreen. Gads.

 

Okay, true, plenty of flies! I was refering to the sorts of larger animals being mentioned here (pigeons, squirrels etc).

 

everyone has hit something on the road, unfortunatly it's something thats very hard not to do

 

I haven't actually hit anything on the road, you know animal wise. Bugs don't really count as i kill them when they are in the house on purpose, so wouldn't feel to guilty about hitting one of those.

 

you're supposed to run over rabbits thats why they reproduce so quickly to compensate.
I've never run anything over...but i dont drive so.... but if i did i'd aim at pigeons the flying rat boys that they are.

 

Aye... folks down here aim at squirrels.... there's too many of them and pushing out what few red squirrels are left in the country....
