I can't believe people are complaining about the beer. Wait, yes I can.

    Out of interest.
My local town is twinned with Amsterdam and we have a 'dutch week' each year.

Can we include a large spliff on our banner for that week?

People and aliens were drinking alcohol in the Cantina and the Outlander Club. Therefore alcohol is canon.

We never get to see how Luke and Leia are.. umm.. well, brought about this universe.. er.. the honeymoon.

So, does that mean sex isn't cannon, Sape? Does it just not exist in that galaxy far, far away?

Streaking is canon. Look at Threepio and Chewie [face_mischief]

Perhaps we should write a FanFic about characters who enjoy streaking, since it's cannon, StarFire? ;)

There's less canon in FanFic than there are cannons on a pirate ship.

    AYBABTU?

There was also smoke in the bar - so we ARE allowed to use a spliff in our banner then???

Yay, my thread about "promoting drunkenness" was closed! I saw the header and got into the spirit of the holiday. Silly me, I assumed my thread would be suitable.

I'm getting mixed messages about this place. And it's almost as if you have to be here every waking hour of your life in order to understand what's allowed and what isn't.

And even then, it's always subject to change.

EDIT: I see the error of my ways now. Thank you, cbjedi, for the stimulating PM converation. I can't believe I've been so stupid -- everyone forgive me.

Bartender, how 'bout a round of water for everyone in the house?

    *raises glass of water*

    Three cheers for enlightenment!

xie Paddy is the appropriate abbreviation of Patrick - not Patty. All the Patricks I know are called Paddy, and I've never heard it called Patty before.

Are we to enjoy St Andrews, St David and St George's themes also ? (I don't mind creating them).

I personally think we should extend the idea to all patron saints, and enjoy St Gregory the Illuminator day on September 30th and St Barnabus Day on June 11th.

Why does Ireland get a banner for their holiday, but no other countries have banners for theirs? I mean, really. How many Irish posters are there around here? Not many.

Actually from what I understand St Patricks Day was never really a big deal in the UK. It was in America for the Irish immigrants. Only in the past few years has it become a big deal in the UK, according to a British friend of mine. But I agree on the Oktoberfest thing...

Are there going to be more icons for St. Patricks day then are up right now? Where are the 100 or so icons like from other holidays.

With a small holiday, 100s of icons weren't needed. Valentine's Day also had a lot less than were uploaded during the holiday season in December. ;)

As for other banners... this is just for fun, folks. Something for folks to enjoy. It is not necessary for a new banner to be created for every holiday. We'd constantly be switching. :p ;)

Ugh Malkie is right, I sort of wasn't thinking and reversed what I was saying in my brain.

For this I shall sing the praises of Kadue three times, followed by a mortal sacrifice to Jobo.

Still I think an Oktoberfest one would be fun. It's something during a lull time with no other holidays... it's something celebrated in more than one country...

and it's German! What more could one ask?? :)

I was going to point out the massive discrepency between the St. Patrick's Day banner and the TOS, but I see that many people have beat me to it.

Instead I'll supply some anecdotal evidence. In my local Fan Force forum we had a thread deleted last fall because we were organizing a get together at a pub. While I'm sure there was some discussion of beer and its tastiness in that thread, I doubt it reached the level of approving of 13 year olds passed out in pools of their own vomit, or 14 year olds with the dry heaves. I can't double-check though since apparently the thread was so radioactive that someone felt compelled to delete it. [face_rolleyes]

    Anyway... just providing my $0.02

Oh, and I'd agree with whomever it was that said the compositing of the characters on the banner looks like ass. The light, color, and contrast are all wrong. Use the photoshop image filters you must, save you they can!

In FF Moncton out Ad holders are cups of Tim Horton's coffee. We aren't advertising, it's just a part of our culture since the first Tim's was there :)

Every year there's the debate on why some hollidays are celebrated with banners and some aren't. Basically the answer is that this is an American based server and St. Patrick's day has been adopted as a major American holliday. The alternatives are to have a banner every week for every holliday around the world or not have any at all.

Oktoberfest is a huge American celebration as well... at least it is around here. Is it not elsewhere in the US?

I enjoy it when we get themed banners. The pink for valentine's day was cheesy, but the fact that there was specialised boards is what matters. It cool! We should do it more often.
