Recently, I have noticed the lack of interesting stadium names, for most major sports.

    I mean come on...

    Staples Arena?

    SBC Park?

    Lincoln Financial Feild?

So we are going to solve this issue...

In this thread, we are going to come up with the most creative/funny Stadium names we can...

Or, you can make it serious and post a name you would like your team's stadium to pick up!

    Have at it.

You have no idea how corporate sponsorship works do you?

    No, I do...Really, I get it.

BUT, I still think this is a fun idea for a thread, and it really has bummed me out that it has come to this.

Theres a difference between understanding corporate sponsorship, and liking the stupid sounding names that result from it.

But if you couldn't tell from that phrasing, I agree that there is a dearth of good stadium names these days. The best, IMO, are those named after the greats from that sport at that school, etc.

every now and then, a corporate-named stadium becomes part of the local landscape. America West Arena was like that here. It was often just called "AWA", and i certainly didn't think of it as anything corporate. it was, of course, and still is (as U.S. Airways Center), but it just sounded right.

    Rare, unfortunately.

    Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Two of the best stadium names ever.

Yankee Stadium. We have our own TV network, who needs a stadium sponsor.

I habven't heard anything in thtat direction yet, though with Steinbrenner anything that brings in more money can't be ruled out. In the end, though, I think he'll bow to the importance of history and not give it a sponsor name.

I would hope not. But can you be so certain the Glazers won't do it?

It won't be long before the American's unstable grasp of the English language sees Old Trafford renamed at the whim of a local Glazier.

    And lol @ Boba_Fett_2001.

Yeah I'd be inclined to agree actually. It's about what makes money to them, and retaining the traditional names of the stadium (and clubs) makes good financial sense.

Unless selling out to big corporations makes them more money...;)

In the UK, I think even big corporations would baulk at upsetting what (in many cases) is over a hundred years of history. The lengthy history of many of the Premiership's top sides is a huge thing here.

I really, really dislike corportate names for stadiums. Mile High becomes Invesco? Lame.

Thankfully, our sports stadiums in KC are lovely venues with good names.

Arrowhead [face_love] Best NFL stadium, period.

Kaufman. The K. One of the best MLB stadiums, though unfortunately without a good team to fill it.

I will be very angry if either of these ever sells out. Especially Arrowhead.

I can't stand the 49ers, but I still chuckle at the fact that they play in Monster Park.

It will always be Candlestick Park. :p

I still think the worst of the bunch was Network Associates Coliseum. Wow. That one screams, 'excitement'. [face_plain]

Yea, I typed it up in a hurry, and didn't really do that much research...

Either way, it is a sucky name for a great sporting venue.

I don't think it is: all the teams that play in there are staples of the L.A. sports scene. See, it makes sense. :p
