Stallone's The Expendables & The Expendables 2 (teaser trailer online!)

Coming in 2010- A team of mercenaries head to South America on a mission to overthrow a dictator.

AICN has some casting news from Stallone that's all kinds of awesome:

Mr. Stallone called Harry this morning to reveal more details about his mercenaries-vs-dictator action extravaganza THE EXPENDABLES.

He told Harry that UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture has been added to the movie's cast, joining the already announced Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Dolph Lundgren. Sly's hoping he'll be able to give Couture an excellent boost towards big screen action stardom.

Forrest Whittaker has also been cast in the film, which rolls this March in Brazil.

Oh, and look for Jet Li to fight Dolph Lundgren in THE EXPENDABLES. If that's not a plunge into Geeky bad-assity, I don't know what is.

This has real potential- especially if it ends up being a series or something- as the list of possible future underappreciated/badass/action star/semi-action star actors is almost limitless (as some of the over the top, yet tantalizing suggestions made in that AICN article's talkback well illustrate).

 

Bullock In Stallone's "Expendables"?

Sylvester Stallone is after his old "Demolition Man" co-star Sandra Bullock to join him in his new action film "The Expendables" reports JoBlo.

Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker and Randy Couture star in the story of a team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator.

Bullock would play a government agent (paired up with Whitaker) on the hunt for Stallone's crew of hired guns. Stallone co-stars and directs.

 

Wow, the cast keeps getting bigger and bigger. Rumors also of Ben kingsley circling this one too.

 

Schwarzenegger joins the cast!!!!!

Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to be playing Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in THE EXPENDABLES. He will be shooting for one day, and it seems that the Gov and Sly's character Barney Ross have some history back when the Gov was shooting CONAN THE BARBARIAN!

Also - Ben Kingsley is out as the dirty bastard CIA sob, and Eric Roberts is in! Also, Mickey Rourke has finally signed on officially!

 

A followup on Arnie's participation:

Hey folks, Harry here... It seems there's a possibility that my source was a bit too exuberant about the certainty of Arnold Schwarzeneggar signing aboard. The whole thing is very dependent upon what happens with Arnold's primary gig as the Governor of California. As most of you know, California has been hit brutally by the financial nightmare that has descended upon the world. If you read DRUDGE or any of the papers in California, you can see a stern faced Arnold working with the California legislature to find a way to fix some of the insanity that's happening in that state. That's the primary job that Arnold is working on over the rest of his term as Governor. If there's some daylight in there somewhere, he might possibly find the time to do his friend, Stallone, a favor by being in THE EXPENDABLES. My source also tells me that if this miracle does come to pass, you'll find Arnie not as the Governor, but as something a bit more gritty, scarred and brutalized.

So... where are things? Well, let's just say - if a ****ing miracle happens and California's economy turns around... we might have a miracle pairing on screen. However, if the nightmare in front of California stays murky... We may just have to wait for a brighter day. Let's all keep our fingers crossed for Sly & the state of California.
