Maybe they could get them for a possible sequel? Those issues look pretty resolvable to me.

One can hope. I think the greatest thing about this concept is they could kill off practically everyone but Stallone and then just put together a new team for the sequel made up of other action stars.

Expendables 2: Stallone, Snipes, JCVD, Biehn, Russell and, I dunno... Mario Van Peebles? :D

You have to have Banderas in there too. He's the frikkin' Mariachi! :p Chuck Norris can be in it too as the bad guy, and because he's Chuck Norris, for the first time in an action movie, the bad guy wins. I was thinking we could include that Danish guy too from Kill Bill 2 and Reservoir Dogs; Michael Madsen. I just think he's really cool. He's action movie material, I tell you.

I think Vin might be too new/too big still.

If Statham, who got into movies after Diesel and who's arguably the biggest action star of the past five years, can make it in, Diesel can make it in.

If they make a second movie, though, my number one desire would be some kind of cameo from Clint Eastwood, if they could talk him back onscreen.

    Release date: August 13

    Awfully late, isn't it.

It was originally going to come out in mid/late April, but Lionsgate decided to swap it's release date with Kick-Ass. Mid August isn't so bad though- usually the first week end of August is dominated by comedies, leaving the second week for a major action flick. Then you the 3rd week is filler and the 4th has the last B-movie action/horror/genre release of the summer.

District 9, Clone Wars & Tropic Thunder all opened in that timeframe in recent years.

Bump. Hmm, seems like we skipped over the actual release with this thread, ha.

Anyways, the sequel is now in the works, and apparently John Travolta & Chuck Norris will be among the new cast members this time around.

Now all we need are Vin Diesel and Steven Seagal and we're set. I wonder why Jet Li's not coming back. [face_thinking]

Steven Seagal would refuse to be in it unless he was a) the star b) invincible.

I don't think I've ever seen him take a punch in one of his movies.

Actually they tried to get Seagal for the first film, but he has some kind of outstanding dispute with one of the producers of The Expendables from a previous film he did for him.

Likewise, they also tried to get JCVD and Wesley Snipes, but the former apparently wanted a bigger role and the latter was in jail for tax evasion (and then replaced by Terry Crews).

Supposedly JCVD will be in the sequel, though.

And, from what I'm reading, Chuck Norris may just be a cameo ala Arnold in the first film.

Taylor Lautner, Christian Slater, Christopher Lambert and Nicolas Cage are all said to be on Sylvester Stallone's wanted roster for the upcoming "The Expendables" sequel says The New York Post.

Lionsgate is reportedly quite pleased with 19-year-old Lautner's work in the upcoming thriller "Abduction" and are pushing for him to be in the Simon West-directed movie. Stallone himself is said to be "impressed" by the young star's stunt performing abilities.

Donnie Yen has been offered a part while the likes of John Travolta, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme have all been rumored candidates.

    More for Expendables 2

Not only do Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger have larger roles but Stallone confirms that Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme are set - ?We?ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one" he says.

There'll be some new blood in the form of "a Navy Seal-type, because with the Expendables none of them have 20-20 vision anymore. They need some help, man.? Stallone heads to Bulgaria at the end of this month to start shooting.

The biggest surprise of the interview is that "Face/Off" stars Nicolas Cage and John Travolta could be making appearances - "We?ve got Chuck Norris and I think Nic Cage. We?re trying to work out different scenarios. I like using people that had a moment and then maybe have fallen on some hard times and give them another shot. So we?re always looking for actors like Michael Biehn and Michael Pare. I like those kinds of guys."

As for Travolta's involvement? "It?s possible. The one thing I?ve learned is what is a fact on Monday is a complete fallacy on Tuesday. A lot of it is scheduling. It?s not financial. It?s just that Bulgaria is definitely a jaunt. It?s a commitment, you know what I mean? Especially in the dead of winter.?

I really hope they can get Biehn in there- he was the first name that came to mind for a sequel cast.

Discovered something curious abotu the first film the other day...

So, when I saw the film in theaters, I had kept an ear open for the Shinedown song, "Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom)", as that song was used in the promos (in a way that certain song moments and visuals created a permanent impression/vibe in my mind that sticks to this day) and I had found it interesting that Stallone had asked them to write the song using the "Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom" line from a poem he felt important to the story.

But, oddly, the song was not in the film, even during the credits (the end credits song was "The Boys Are Back in Town"). So, strange- but not impossible for a film's promotion to not include a song like that.

Anyways, last week I caught The Expendables on EPIX/on-demand... and the song not only was played during the big action sequence of the climax (appropriately, right after they set off the "boom-lays" that destroy the compound), but also during the credits.

So, this left me somewhat perplexed as, unless the theater I saw it in had some kind of serious issue with it's sound system that would have muted the music track, there's no way I could have missed the use of the song during that battle, and I was definitely certain about it not being used during the credits.

Turns out, what EPIX is airing is an exclusive extended cut that's (according to a wiki entry) not currently available on video yet. The film is 10 min longer, and Diamond Eyes has been added into the film at these two points.

Wish I had known that at the time, otherwise I would have paid more attention to looking for the extended/added scenes (there's one with Randy talking about his ear that I think was extended, but didn't realize it at the time, and there's also a scene with the team reciting the Boom-Lay poem, but I don't recall if that was in the theatrical cut or not).

Song does make that battle pretty cool, though :D.

    Major Accident on Set

One stuntman has been killed and another critical injured after an incendiary went awry during filming of Nu Image/Millennium's "The Expendables 2" in Bulgaria reports E! News.

The unidentified stuntmen were shooting a second-unit explosion scene on Thursday night at the Lake Ognyanovo reservoir outside Sofia when the accident occurred. One died at the scene, the other rushed to hospital where he is now in a stable condition after undergoing a five-hour operation.

None of the cast was present when the accident occurred as principal photography was taking place a few hours away at the mountain resort village of Bansko.

A statement from Nu Image/Millennium says "Our hearts go out to the families and those on the production affected by this tragedy. The filmmakers are working closely with the authorities in responding to and investigating this accident".
