You're right, also the Vong are less likely to be scared of such a large "abonimation".

Billions of credits spent, and nobody's figured out a way to look out from under a cloaking device? Has anybody thought of a periscope or sensor mast? Maybe sensor probes tethered to the ship, like the Wireless Sea Knowledge Retrieval Satellites on the seaQuest (pity the writers totally screwed the show up)? Something that small could be sensor-stealthed like a LightStealth spyship so it wouldn't be noticed. And the point of a Rebel Alliance being big isn't intimdation - its so it can carry a $#!^load 'o guns 'n torpedoes 'n fighters and blow an entire fleet away in five minutes. Plus gravitational detection can be countered - if you can fly the ship close to a big gravity well like a planet, moon, star, or Interdictor cruiser (or maybe the RA's own 12 gravity-well projectors can be used to confuse their sensors), you can still manage to sneak around.

The fear of getting totally annihilated without any warning at all - the fear of a phantom ship that can destroy entire fleets - maybe taking a cue from Jaina and evoking the Trickster goddess - now THAT's intimidation.

 

That was a little weird, but the living star destroyers is already been done.

The Vong already use living capital ship analogs.

But the republic wouldn't be able to do that.

 

Some of you fans should design a star destroyer to combat the Vong, not the Empire....

So far, other than gravitational signature detection, we haven't seen any vong sensors that are massively different then ours - visual, IR, and so on. And we haven't seen the Vong encounter a totally cloaked ship yet.

 

But everything displaces gravity, even cloaked ships...

 

But there are tactical manuvers you can use to hide the ship's gravitational signature in the clutter. See above.
