    Oh!!! Baby fic!!!

    This was just . . . I am in raptures over it. [face_love]

    I adored seeing them at this stage of their relationship. They were wonderful as budding diplomats (and even after - five years, correct? - they are still so wonderfully in love. The scene at the governors was . . . hot. [face_whistling] For lack of a better term.) And soft and so very loving at the same time. [face_love]

    And Khoi'ri!! I love the beauty of naming both mother and daughter after the word for 'star.' [face_love] Just . . . yeah.

    "Well, Spock. Aren't you quite the natural at being the doting parent!" Nyota grinned close to a month after the birth, upon coming upon the proud father holding his daughter to soothe her. He had taken to the cutie pie immediately. She had Nyota's lovely coloring and her bondmate's beautiful eyes and ears, to Nyota's fond delight. He would take the opportunity to cuddle Khio'ri at incidental moments unless she was nursing or sound asleep.

    This was just the best mental image in the history of ever.

    Oh my goodness, but I am completely melted goo at this point! This was just lovely on a few different levels, and it will definitely be something I come back and reference when I am looking for somehting splendid to read. :D

    Suddenly, he scooped her up from her seated position and held her crushingly close.

    He would take the opportunity to cuddle Khio'ri at incidental moments unless she was nursing or sound asleep.

    Oh, the cuteness of it! [face_love] :* And Kio'ri is such a beautiful name.

    Jade:

    This is as beautiful and sweet as I imagined.

    Thank you so much!

    She Dances and Glides

    You are not surprised that Nyota is a marvel to watch as she dances. She glides across the floor even as she is merely walking to whatever destination she is headed.

    Watching her at official functions dancing with others is more than a little ... off-putting, even while you are "only friends."

    She savors her dances with you, although you keep a discreet distance the first couple of times you dance together in public.

    She encourages you with a soft word and sparkling eyes to dance "a little nearer, my dear love."

    Once you do, the nearer contact is -- exhilarating (her word).

    *

    When she wears a red evening gown, backless and satiny, it is all you can do to keep from caressing her curves then and there.

    Her loving eyes shine as she catches the thought across your bond -- and you can tell she cannot wait until you are alone -- and you can do so, and can assist her out of the lovely form-hugging dress, as well.

    *

    "Spock, love," She purrs, when you are alone again, and her eyes are warmly inviting. "I am so happy you liked me in this!"

    "Nyota, ashal-veh." You reply, slowly stroking her ribs and waist and around to her back. "You are as the expression is, poetry in motion."

    "And you," She answers, leaning into the touches, "are ... such a darling!!!"

    Her slow kisses are very ardent and diverting, as the gown puddles at your feet.

    The fitting song Lady in Red flows happily across your bond from her, and her "I love you" as well.

    /As I do you, ashal-veh./

    ~~~~~~
    It Never Gets Easier --
    It was a touchy situation, anyway, on Velna III. Talks were tense and on the brink of volatile between long-warring factions. The independent mediator, Commissioner Pryce Hughes, was very adept. I had heard many good things about his prowess. But when protests broke out near the Hall of Arbitration, and our landing team was caught in the cross-fire --
    My stomach knotted and turned into a block of ice all at once.
    It even devolved to the point that they wanted to keep them as hostages but Jim would have none of it. My bond with Spock was still strong but there seemed to be an attenuation; I wondered why and Audrey provided a clue.
    "It's a side effect of their stun weapons; there's a neural dampener; we're fighting it off successfully; but Jim is ripping mad that anyone would dare to try to impede our particular bond."
    "Ah!" I grinned, despite myself. "That is sweet."
    She chuckled and told us to stand by.
    *
    Mr. Hughes - it transpired - gave a press conference and showed up the opposition as being hotheaded and "trigger happy." This worked to the current leaders' advantage and helped in the public opinion as well.
    When the landing team arrived I was on hand in the Transporter room as they all were given a cursory check by medical staff. It appeared there were no lasting harmful consequences.
    I still hovered, to Chris's amusement.
    *
    When he and I were alone again, I massaged away any residual tension in his shoulders, which also relaxed me a great deal.
    "I hope you were not inordinately concerned, Nyota love?" Spock queried, his warm eyes full of gentle and tender affection.
    "Define inordinately." I huffed, much as I believe Eliziya Durron did on too many occasions to count. "I white-knuckled it until I got the all-clear, and I'm not ashamed to say so!"
    His eyes glowed and his hands took mine and held them fast. "My Imzadi." He murmured and kissed my eyes, the tip of my nose, and my now-smiling lips.
    "I love you, so it never gets easier ... watching you in a potentially hazardous situation -- yet, it does have a side perk." I whispered, holding him fiercely.
    "Which is?" His hands were slowly stroking my back.
    "I appreciate having you back with me even more than ever before." I answered earnestly.
    "Yes. I find the same to be true." He returned, kissing me lightly.
    "I feel the need for a long soak in the spa. Complete with lavender bubbles." I smiled invitingly. "I hope you will join me, my heart?"
    "It would be my pleasure." Spock answered, and our bond glowed with the love flowing freely between us.
    ++++++++++
    Dreamy sigh.
    I'll have to agree with Nyota, the best part of going through that kind of tense situation is the mushyness (is that a word?) of the aftermath.
    I loved the snippets about the paralyzer's effect on their bond. [face_thinking] That is definitely an idea to explore further. :)
    ~~~~~~~

    A/N: Based upon Space Seed I call this one:

    A Menace From the Past

    The incident that drove home to me how marvelous it was not to have to choose between love and duty involved Lieutenant Marla McGivers and an unexpected find. Even now, I shudder to think of how I'd feel if I had to make her choice. One can never prevent or predict where the heart will lead, or leap without looking, into love.

    * *

    It was very fortunate that McGivers was on the bridge when the old-style SOS came in. It was in what had been known as Morse Code, until it fell out of use during the 20th century. Officially, Lieutenant McGivers was a cultural specialist, but on the side, she was also an historian. This background led to Ms. McGivers being fluent in the code, while I merely had a basic familiarity with it.

    When answered, the SOS signal changed promptly to the Morse for SS Botany Bay, and stayed there as if stuck, regardless of our further hails. Homing on the message, the Enterprise eventually found herself drawing alongside a dark hull of a ship of the CZ-100 class. Library tapes classified it as a very early form of exploration vessel, known in the vernacular of the time as a "sleeper ship."

    Clearly it was a derelict; its signal was left on automatic. Except that the Enterprise?s sensors showed other equipment also still operating, and heartbeats! They were very faint, but they seemed to be coming from some eighty or ninety sources. None were faster than four beats per minute. There were no signs of respiration.

    ?Aliens?? Kirk asked McCoy.

    The surgeon shrugged. ?You?ve got me, Jim. Even aliens have to breathe. Besides, the ship?s name is in English.?

    Kirk noted dryly: ?The English were notorious for not breathing, I suppose. Mr. Spock, can you trace the registry??

    ?Nothing in the computer, Captain.?

    ?Lieutenant McGivers, what can you tell us about the period when that ship was built??

    ?Not as much as I?d like,? McGivers responded. ?The Eugenics Wars were caused by a group of ambitious scientists?of all nationalities?who were trying to improve the race by selective breeding. They were pretty ruthless about it, and before their identity was guessed, half the countries on Earth were accusing each other of being responsible for the plague of megalomaniac monsters that was cropping up. The result was the last World War, and in the process, a lot of records were lost. I?m surprised that any ship from that era ever got off the ground.?

    Kirk decided, ?Well, we?d better go across and look it over; since you?re a specialist in the period, you?d better be in the party. Scotty, I?ll want you to inspect the machinery and see what?s salvageable, if anything. Bones, you too.?

    ?Why am I always included in these things?? McCoy complained. ?I signed aboard to practice medicine, not to have my atoms scattered back and forth across space by a transporter.?

    I stifled a laugh at this familiar refrain.

    ?You?re included because we hear heartbeats, and that is your department. Lieutenant,? in an aside to me, ?keep an ear on the landing party as usual. We don?t know what we could be walking into over there.?

    ?Yes, sir,? I replied, and as they moved to the lift, I sent Spock a farewell glance with a kiss in my eyes.

    * * *

    The open channel to the landing party allowed us to keep apprised of events as they unfolded and particularly of any unexpected crises on either end that would call for their immediate return. The party found sleeping cubicles for suspended animation with the occupants on the minimal level of sustaining life support. One of the cubicles held a compelling figure, whom McGivers later described in glowing detail.

    He was extremely handsome and magnificently built. His face reflected the sun-ripened Aryan blood of the northern Indian Sikhs, with just an additional suggesti

    Thanks for the sweet comments! :* That was one entry that didn't make it into my diary so I tweaked a few things and hposted. [face_dancing]

    A/N: This fun ficlet is inspired by the wonderful back and forth playfulness of Liz and Kyp [face_love] [face_love]

    ~~~
    One of Many Things
    You are tweaking the communications software and hardware to run at peak efficiency. It is working optimally, but you love "tinkering" with it.
    The rest of the bridge crew is on shore leave, but you don't feel like taking in the sights, not even the theater and arts this go-round.
    You notice a message from Sherralyn and open it.
    Its contents make you laugh. They were on a top-secret mission to obtain the logistical specifics of the latest cloaking technology held by the Romulans. While their top tech expert sliced into the system, the Commander and crew were led on a merry song and dance about a possible defector.
    "Our XO had to flirt shamelessly with the very attractive lady commander. We ribbed him most shamelessly -- that he wasn't pretending an attraction as much as he'd like us to think! I ask you, Nyota, would you have been able to do such a thing to get the job done? I'm not sure I would have -- I would have used another tactic. But since you and I are in exclusive relationships, I believe that's the crucial factor."
    Spock enters at this point, and you smile in welcome. You meet him at the center seat and he pulls you in for a slow kiss of greeting.
    He draws you down with him into the capacious seat and you snuggle closer, smiling mischievously while taking a long sip of your Chai vanilla tea. You tell him briefly of Sherralyn's message and hand him the mug so he can indulge in the warm richness of the beverage as well.
    He quirks an eyebrow as you conclude your account. "Is Sherralyn's opinion accurate in your case?" Spock queries.
    "Most assuredly." You reply, as you finish the last of the tea. "But I'm sure you would have no difficulty in doing what their exec did." Your tone is lightly teasing, but you brace yourself for his possible affirmation.
    He seems to ponder it very carefully. "As to that --" He begins and then pauses for a long moment, long enough for you to feel certain you might be right in your guestimation. Yet, there is a whisper of mischief and teasing in the tone.
    "So, you could, then?" Your question holds more than a little ire.
    "I could never mislead someone in such a fashion, even for the completion of a mission." He replies, any hint of mischief gone from his tone. "Being committed to you as I am would make such a task untenable, in any case."
    Your heart melts and warms.
    You flush. "I'm sorry, love. I should have known that without asking." You breathe in relief.
    He answers softly: "Yes, my own, you should have."
    "It's just that my scruples on the matter are unabashedly guided by sentiment, and I know yours wouldn't be." You say gently.
    "Nyota," His tone is frankly caressing. "Are you -- certain of that?"
    Happy chills run up and down your spine. "I love you, to distraction." You whisper.
    * *
    Two weeks later, you are at one of those post-mission dinners where dignitaries celebrate a successful outcome.
    You are treated - if that is the word - to a longwinded round of questions by the adjutant's assistant of some stuffed shirt who wants to know everything about your "adventures" and hangs on your every word. He especially wants every detail that pertains to your role in them.
    You roll your eyes and extricate yourself finally, only to be snagged by Yolette who warns in a whisper: "Here comes Mr. Jacoby. He's a new transfer, and he's got --"
    Yes, Mr. Jacoby. He had transferred on about a week ago, and was giving you looks and even though he hadn't made himself an overt pest yet, he was fawning from a distance, and even that was irritating.
    You sigh. "The biggest crush on me, irregardless of my nonavailability. He's in your department, I believe?"
    She answers: "That's right."
    You grin mischievously. "Something Sherralyn wrote to me just ga
    Oh yay! A two-fer for me. :D
    A Blast From the Past:
    Holy smokes, girl, but you tackled Kahn. :eek: :eek: =D= I remembered reading that one from your Diary entries, and missing it when it didn't make it. But here it is now! [face_love]
    I was splendid to read it again. :D
    Some fave moments, though:
    I unabashedly was very amused and very impressed by the debate going on?and the points my dear one was scoring with every word. I almost had to literally sit on my hands not to applaud, but my eyes shone at him from across the table. His glance held mine warmly in thanks.
    I could tell that Kirk was secretly more than a little amused; however, he interposed. ?I?m sorry, Commander, but you just pushed Mr. Spock?s logic button, which has a tendency to make him incomprehensible for the next ten minutes or so.
    Your expansion on that back and forth was classic! I enjoyed the flow of this whole entry immensely! :D
    Since Marla made the choice she did, I can only hope for her sake that she made the right choice and that Kahn's attachment to her is genuine." I remarked, my tone reflective and thoughtful.
    ....
    "Choosing between duty and love, though. Could there ever be a harder choice? I'm so very, very glad that I'll never have cause to ... choose between." Part of this was because my intended and my own professional paths converged, and the other was that we two would always be my #1 priority.
    I really liked that you chose this point to focus on and breathe life into. Now I feel the urge to write Kahn/Marla interesting-ness. :p :oops:
    As always, your wrap-up mush is the best part of these. ;) [face_whistling]
    One of Many Things:
    Oooh, a very nice concept that you ran with here. :D
    "Our XO had to flirt shamelessly with the very attractive lady commander. We ribbed him most shamelessly -- that he wasn't pretending an attraction as much as he'd like us to think! I ask you, Nyota, would you have been able to do such a thing to get the job done? I'm not sure I would have -- I would have used another tactic. But since you and I are in exclusive relationships, I believe that's the crucial factor."
    Thankfully, unless its like a Castle/Beckett in 'Knockdown' situation, I can't see Nyota needing to do so. :p Although fun scenario - the infamous "Plato's Stepchildren" kiss would be interesting to see in the reboot. [face_thinking] It would definitely have a Luke/Leia weirdness to it now. [face_laugh]
    "I could never mislead someone in such a fashion, even for the completion of a mission." He replies, any hint of mischief gone from his tone. "Being committed to you as I am would make such a task untenable, in any case."
    Something tells me Spock would have problems with a ploy such as that anyway. One - the whole lying/logic thing, and two - I don't think Vulcan's equivalent of flirting would mesh with others definition of the word. [face_laugh]
    "Lieutenant, I did not know you were so intrigued by the intricacies of --"
    You shoot him a look that says: Don't blow my cover, while saying sweetly and cheerily: "Mr. Jacoby has been telling me of his special interest in holo-projections, in making them more interactive. It's fascinating!"
    Wicked, clever girl; and poor sweet Spock!! [face_laugh] His confusion was palpable and adorable! [face_love]
    "I thought I was. But when you left, so abruptly --" You stop in mid sentence and laugh. "Spock! You were getting one back on me, weren't you?"
    [face_laugh]!!
    Oh, how perfect. I love the growth and intricacies that you are weaving into the characters. :D
    A/N: The lovely inscription comes from Beauty and the Beast love theme narration. :)
    ~~~~~~

    Loverly, Thoughtful, & Memorable

    It was our second year anniversary and I wanted to find a special way to commemorate it. We'd just concluded mediation for a sector desiring to export a rare homeopathic remedy to their nearest neighbor. The region that grew it was in highly disputed territory between warring nations. Once this dispute was settled, the grateful Proconsul invited us to enjoy a few days at a seaside hostel. Golden sands stretched for miles alongside a sapphire blue ocean. Lovely rose and gold sunsets gave way to star-spangled nights.

    Climbing flowers hugged the balconies of the guest suites -- they smelled most like jasmine, which I loved. There were also native flowers of a lovely lavender, which was my favorite color for roses.

    I thought ruefully about my plans having to be foregone or at least delayed. I was awaiting a very special package. But I decided to have it delivered to us planetside ... I couldn't wait! Then, my dearest love surprised me with something very special indeed.

    * *

    I had just returned from a relaxing swim in the warm ocean our first evening there. He met me at the water's edge with a quick kiss of greeting and then he asked me to come to the suite that had been reserved.

    When I walked in, the fragrant flowers filled every corner of the room. The heart-shaped large tub was full of the lovely lavender petals and my favorite bubble bath. On a side table was a decanter filled with peach colored sweet liqueur. He handed me a glass as I sank into the flowery sudsy water.

    "Join me, love." I invited, accompanying the words with a squeeze of the hand I still clasped.

    The bath was a delirious mixture of relaxing and amorous with many kisses and a fair amount of tickles, on both sides.

    "What wonderful treats that bubble bath and this dinner were!" I murmured as we feasted afterward on a delicate white fish with sauted vegetables and a fluffy souffle type dish.

    "It is no more than you deserve." He replied, eyes and tone gentle and tender.

    We cuddled very closely on the sofa. I was wearing a black lace negligee. His eyes were appreciative of how well it suited me.

    He presented me with a lovely surprise: Elizabeth Barrett Browning's ?Sonnets From The Portuguese? in tooled leather with gold leaf. I always had loved romantic sonnets, now even more so.

    ?Each time I read one of these splendid love poems, I always dedicate it to you.? I whispered after a lengthy, rapturous kiss.

    Then I noticed a sweet inscription from my darling love:

    "My own: I found this classic and lyrical piece, and I knew you would enjoy it. It also describes all I find to be true in you:

    "Somewhere I have never travelled, gladly, beyond any experience -- your eyes have their silence.
    In your most frail gesture are things which enclosed me, or which i can not touch, because they are too near.
    Or if your wish be to close me,
    I and my life will shut very beautifully suddenly, as when the heart of this flower imagines the snow carefully, everywhere descending.
    I do not know what it is about you that closes and opens, only something in me understands;
    The voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses. Nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands."

    "My precious love!" I breathed, and kissed him thoroughly and long.

    He read some of my favorites, holding the book in one hand while the other encircled my waist. I was thrilled by the sound of his rich voice reading these timeless words of love.

    "I have something special for you, my love." I murmured. I slid my package out from the cubicle next to the sofa and he unfolded it. It was a holo-album of Amanda from girlhood through her young married life and up to the most recent family stills. I'd spent many weeks contacting family and friends and had secretly commandeered copies from Sarek and squirreled them away in the farthest corner of my lingerie drawer for safekeeping until

    Better With Time

    Even his words of commendation sing in my veins.

    I grinned. "I did it!" I exulted, clasping my hands in my lap and gazing at my monitor screen. "I puzzled out the semantics and the tertiary levels of meanings between the Prime Minister and his opposite number."

    This particular round of tricky negotiations was made more pesky by the fact that the spoken language often diverged from what was meant by the context of the conversation and various levels of inflection; even nonverbal cues such as eye movements and minuscule changes in stance could change what was being communicated immensely.

    I received a general round of hearty commendation from the rest of the bridge crew.

    Spock, who was passing, paused and touched my shoulder lightly, and then his hand moved to unobtrusively stroke my hair.

    My eyes met his softly, and something very warm passed between us. "I had no doubt you could do it, Lieutenant." He told me soto voce.

    "Did you, indeed?" I cocked a brow teasingly.

    "This will mark a true turning point, I do believe." He continued.

    I laced my fingers with his briefly and answered: "I hope so."

    When Spock leaves for a fortnight in an officer exchange, he and Mr. Wells, (Sulu's second) exchange places with a Mr. Luke Tanner and Ian Dayne.

    Our bond has grown exponentially over the course of our relationship; so, we each are able to weather the time apart without adverse effects to the intensity or nature, although naturally it is attenuated by distance. But the emotional facets of missing are (if anything) even more intense than on prior brief times apart.

    This is accentuated because even though Mr. Tanner is quite efficient and capable, and a very affable person and full of wry humor, the undertones are absent.

    The way my love could read my nuances of tone and gesture -- this came from working together over time, but it also sprang from our personal connection.

    "I'm just glad it wasn't Hikaru who was away!" Yolette observes one evening shortly before the re-exchange.

    "I know you are!" I exclaim. "They cannot come back one second too soon for my liking!"

    However, I do not meet Spock as he returns.

    I'm waiting for him in our quarters -- with something soft and clingy on. It has a fitted bodice and is strapless, besides being lavender in color.

    When he enters and sees me lounging against the sofa cushions, with my hair curling loose about my shoulders, he merely says: "Good evening, Nyota love." in a most composed fashion.

    But I can feel his burning passion through our bond and see it in his eyes as he takes in every inch of me.

    His loving regard sends shivers up my spine as he moves to join me.

    "Love, I did miss you!" I breathe, showering him with kisses. "That's why I wasn't there to meet you; I couldn't exactly go there in this, could I?"

    Spock quirks a brow in mischievous agreement and squeezes me tightly, kissing me back most deliciously.

    After a few long moments, we come up for air and I ask softly: "How was it working with my counterpart?"

    "She was quite competent, naturally." He answers. But not you, he adds silently. I catch the thought and melt.

    "Hmmm. It was totally different from working with me, wasn't it? On so many levels? I had that experience on my end, my heart, and I never knew how much I thrived on what is so natural between us just in the everyday duty tasks until you were not around." I sigh.

    "I felt the lack keenly, as well, my own love." Spock affirms, running a hand along my back while clasping me firmly around the waist with the other.

    "Mr. Tanner didn't fill out his uniform as sweetly as you do either." I wink.

    He tickles me, and I laugh, nestling even nearer.

    "I do so love you." I murmur earnestly.

    "And I, you." He returns tenderly.

    When we are bonded and "groundside", he is asked to assist with a technical, scientific hardware glitch on one of the orbiting space stations.
