The show will probably end up being called Number Two.

Michael Dorn, who spent years saying he wanted to play Worf again, doesn't want to play Worf (Sr. Sr.) again on Discovery because CBS didn't offer him enough cake

    http://www.denofgeek.com/uk/tv/star...rek-discovery-michael-dorn-turned-down-a-role

"Apparently, he was offered a role in the show: Dorn was approached to play an ancestor of Worf for the second time, following his cameo in The Undiscovered Country.
This makes a certain degree of sense, given that Discovery takes place ages before Worf's debut. It's set prior to Star Trek: The Original Series. But Dorn turned the role down.
Dorn himself (through a publicist) has told Trek Movie that he had "a couple of conversations with producers [of Discovery] last summer", but they did not lead to anything, and there are "no plans for him to appear at this time."
Matt Palm, a writer for the Orlando Sentinel, then sent this info to Trek Movie, claiming it's an inside scoop which Dorn revealed at a theatre event...
[There] had been interest expressed, but [Dorn] was not offered enough money. He said they had offered him less than 1 percent of what he made in his last contract as Worf.
No official source has backed up Palm's statement about payment being the issue, but the fact that Dorn was approached and ended up not coming on board seems to be iron clad fact."

But he already had his TNG and DS9 cake, not to mention the big fat slices from the four films! It really wouldn't surprise me if during these meetings he re-re-re-re-re-pitched his idea for the Captain Worf series.

What has Dorn been doing with his time lately? Any paying work? Years ago I read that he was learning to fly jets for fun, and that's not a cheap hobby.

Dorn: "I'm walking if I don't get at least a million per episode!"
Exec: "Who do you think you are? Johnny Galecki!?"
    *Michael Dorn runs away crying*
*Exec smugly thinks up a new character named Woof*

Blech, haven't seen a frame of anything yet so couldn't care if they made the cook the Captain at some point.

Discovery still saying it's going to be on in the Fall

    http://trekmovie.com/2017/05/03/sta...on-for-fall-cbs-ceo-talks-netflix-importance/

Netflix bigwig sez they're co-producers on it (which could make sense since it's Netflix every except North America)

Netflix’s and international market importance for Discovery
When the subject later turned to the importance of entertainment industry sales outside the U.S., Moonves again brought up Star Trek: Discovery, saying:
So every decision we make, the international marketplace becomes really really important. As Ted said, we couldn’t afford to do Star Trek, or the quality of the show, without Netflix help who bought the rest of the world, for a very nice fee may I add.
When asked specifically about how international sales influenced decisions for original content for CBS All Access, Moonves contrasted the two shows that have been announced for the platform (The Good Fight and Star Trek: Discovery):
You know that a Star Trek will travel. You know a The Good Wife [spin-off] might not do nearly as well. It is much more of an American show. There is much more talking involved as opposed to action-adventure. So [international sales] does affect your decisions, but not exclusively.
At this point Ted Sarandos from Netflix chimed in, talking about how they are working with CBS as the international distributor for Star Trek Discovery:
If you ever needed more proof that this isn’t a zero-sum game, on the Star Trek series we are doing it together. We are launching it outside of U.S. all over the world. And coming in as production partners, we have been great partners together on making a show that could have been smaller, bigger. It is a net gain for everybody.
Hearing Moonves and Sarandos talk it seems that Netflix has done more than just buy the international rights to Discovery, but are working more closely together with CBS on the show.

The casting change doesn't seem that worrisome. It sounds like they hired one guy to play a Klingon but he wasn't working out so they brought another actor in and gave the original actor a supporting Starfleet role since he was already contracted.

I mean, you'll recall they recast the Captain mid-production of Voyager at the beginning and that ended up being a good call.

No, it was the first day of shooting and they went with the second choice immediately thereafter.

Yes, it was a good call, but this is months into production...

But we don't know how many actual scenes the Klingons are in though.

We also don't know how significant of a role it is, how many scenes he's in (as Juliet points out) and if those scenes have even been shot yet. For all we know, the scenes aboard any Klingon ships were filmed after those aboard Discovery or limited to viewscreen conversations (and, thus, easily reshot).

It's far from the only problem this production has had; it can't be separated from the wider cluster****.

Also, Mulgrew was better than that stiff French-Canadian woman, but did Voyager end up being a good show? I'd say overall, no.

I've seen them, but getting rid of her didn't get rid of the bad writing and lack of direction or real overarching creative vision.

Bad writing and lack of direction...

if science fiction is both a fable and warning using the mirror/ lens of the "future", maybe the writers should be asking who are we? and where are we going? And separated from the now what would you think your 6x great grand kid would say about you and your society?
