I mean..okay it wasn't the worst bit of television i've seen on sky one..but do you think they were trying to get the franchise off to a good start..with rather dubious means..?

It's all Jeri Ryan's fault. Ever since she came into the Star trek universe the producers figure sex sells.

And all this goes back to the very first Tomb Raider game.

 

I liked the floaty hand bit

 

yeah that bit was a good effect. All the speicial effects were good. I wonder how long before there is a big space battle.

 

It was a good effect but the bit where he did the floaty hand and then his OTHER floaty hand cracked me up

I saw an Episode in the states in December - twas a niuce space battle in that one!

The enterprise has phasers that are about as effective as a pen laser !

 

Ah yes, Captain's dog

No one's mentioned the Doc yet. I thought he was quite good, if not a wee bit similar to Neelix. In fact, all the cast seem quite good (apart from vulcan woman)

 

All the vulcans in the pilot appeared to show too much emotion, I thought... when judged against Nimoy/Spock, they look crap. Spock was awesomely unemotional!

 

Sam, the floaty hand thing was when Scott Bacula was in that room near the end ... I cant explain it...someone else try...

 

and he has been the only vulcan to show irony. Well that's what the Guardian said in it's review yesterday.

2) I am with halibut on the mutation thing of kligons. But halibut we could be looking at it from the wrong point of few, walfe (SIC) said "there was a radiation or some other problem that changed their dna" (probably not same quote i aint a trekkie or trekker)
He could of meant that during the time of star trek original (STO cant remember correct short hand) series there was the radiation Ie during the time between TNG and STO their DNA reverted back to the way it was before the radiation.


3) The music, well what can you say its not as good as the old style of kind of epic scale that the other ones had "space the final frontier etc" of TNG or the classic DSN or Voyager with out any words that sounded great on any tv.
But with a lot of things i think we will get use to it.
For the choice of song i liked it, its just like they have climbed a mountain and are on the edge about to jump off. They know they are so close to something great.

4) The charcters. Ok the dog was the best i think only joking. Yeah who ever else said no one does vulcan as spook (and he was half human!) She has got a long way to go. She was more 90% human!
But that decontamination scene DAMN that was good I tell you that was worth watching again
Minx dont forget thou that in STO roddenbury (SIC) had all the women in mini skirts etc so its nothing new that they have brought sex back into. Just that we have got over all that equal rights etc. And can show women as sexy.
Its good to see sam beckett back again, funny thou "its not within his own life time"
The token black guy was ok, didnt have much to do.
The translator (chiense) was good i like it how she slowly assumed the rule of communications with the ear piece etc.
I also like the bits were the humans were getting peed of at the vulcans for holding them back. True human nature as they say.
Also when they went to engineering there was always tonnes of people in the background it just didnt seem right to me. Also when they went anywhere near the reactor in STO didnt they have to wear special suits etc (or i am complete wrong?) But in this they were wearing nothing special a few inchs from it.
ALso the time displacement bit what the hell was he doing with his hands, he does it with one hand then the other! as if it would be any different! Also how fast is a laser (as fast as light) hence how the hell could he of dodged that phaser! If he could of dodged that he would still see him self coming in the door and walking around the room cause time would of been slowed down so much!
Also what species is the doctor? ps he has really really scare smile! Alot like nelixe (sic) like someone else said

5) The ship.
OK not bad at a first attempt at starship, i would have put go faster strips on it.
I like it how they repaired it sooo quickly plus when they got the captian out the ships didnt fire on them when they were leaving only when it was going towards the station (i think a break was around that point). So when ever you come up against this species always go in reverse then they see you not as a threat.

6)Flackbacks
I liked them. seeing how his father taught him etc. BUt one thing with all flackbacks on ST where have all the people gone? Surely in how ever many years there will be billions of billions of people (well a few more then today) and when ever they have flackbacks there is NEVER anybody else around on a nice sunny day on a nice sandy beach etc! (you cant even find that today let along thousand years (?) in the future)

I wanna see more.
