So is Star Trek done with Televison or are they really plotting the new movie?

 

Excellent news alert.

DS9 has had a re-release in slimline packaging like TNG had a couple of years ago.

I bought season two today, £25.

Finally, a chance to get all of DS9 on DVD at a reasonable price.

Yes, JJ Abrhams is working on a new Trek film. As for whether or not Trek is done with TV, I don't know, but I would be inclined to that there will more Trek on TV in the future.

Speaking of news alerts, link. Is there an iminent casting announcement, maybe?

Yeah, Zachary Quinto does look an awful lot like Nimoy. Good casting choice, IMO.

 

He does have the look, that's for sure. I've never seen him in action, though, so I don't know how he'll do. I wonder if his voice has the right timbre to pull off a young Spock.

I've also read that Nimoy himself will have a weighty cameo in the movie, which makes me wonder if this will be some sort of 'flashback' for Spock...a reminiscing, if you will.

They're still trying to figure out how to work Shatner into the film as well.

I would still like to see Matt Damon playing a young Kirk. I think he could pull it off, if he could get the Shatnerisms down.

I also hope that this will be canon, unlike the "Enterprise" series. What I mean to say is that Kirk first served on the Farragut and the Republic before he even met Spock, and Spock first served under Christopher Pike.

Of course, this could be how they might have met in Starfleet Academy, but I'm also understand that this will be their first space mission together.

Maybe it will be something along the lines of how they first met, became friends, and then a couple of years later, they meet on the Enterprise.

Just a thought...

 

Some academy students are selected iirc to do basic training missions aboard old starships. One of the academy novels, but i can't recall which...

 

This increases my hope that this will be a post, Generations, flashback story with Nimoy as the anchor.

 

I read the same about Nimoy... his comments to the public were quite amusing. He said it was only logical that he accept the offer of a small part in the film.

That is true. Though Sylar is his breakout role I think.

 

Having not watched Heroes or 24, I think he's a great choice if not on looks alone. Better than Adrian Brody would have been.

The idea of Gary Sinese as McCoy to me is just too sad to let go.
