AN: Nyota and Audrey worked together before. They seemed to be on different paths, but share missions and as they do, share laughs and both S/U and J/A grow and learn as couples.

Isabeau Fontein told me that I would be interfacing with Fleet Intelligence to root out what was called in old spy stories, double agents. Or in crime stories, rogue cops.

"Guess Fleet Intel is not very popular." I commented wryly.

She laughed. "Putting it mildly. It sets a particular mindset oftentimes of being overly suspicious. An occupational hazard and others look at you as if you always have an agenda even when you don't. You have to be perceptive and thick-skinned to a large extent. You'll be working with Audrey ..."

I gave a happy squeal. "Oh, what a wonderful surprise for me! I thought once we finished our tour any meetings between us would be sporadic. I welcome the opportunity!"

Isabeau smiled. "She said pretty much the same when I contacted her."

She handed me a thick dossier. "Look that over. Your first meeting/debrief will be in a week or sooner. Keep me posted."

This will be a unique diary with two different viewpoints, but they are amazing characters to explore.

I am writing this private log of events that will transpire soon. It will have personal and professional observations in it. I am very happy to be working with Nyota again. The person we are putting under close scrutiny has been a slippery Sheve-meister. But he has gotten brash and over-confident, lately. Always a welcome occurrence for Intel, as we can trap the person in their own cleverness!

This is one individual Nyota and the rest of the Enterprise crew had a run-in with before, and doubtless they probably thought they'd never be able to bring him to justice!

I sighed in frustration. Everyone who had tried to go up against Panusconi had inexplicably - or maybe not so much - been silenced, recanting their accusations abruptly. Either they were bought off with credits or a cushy position if they shut the krell up. Or they were intimidated into silence. Your career will be so much burnt toast unless ...
I scowled. The evidence had to be unassailable and the prosecutors beyond reach, as far as being pushed or pulled one way or another. I knew I wasn't easily cowed. And Audrey either.
But if the ripple effect spread to those who were innocents, those we cared about?

My stomach knotted up at the very thought.
I felt icy tendrils of apprehension at contemplating the next morning's meeting.

My bondmate sensed my disquietude.

He paused in the doorway leading into my private home-office and asked: "Nyota, is something in particular troubling you about the dossier?"

"Hmm! Whatever would give you that idea? The last time we had a run-in with this unscrupulous son of a Sith we barely came out on top and we lost two valuable colleagues, not directly, but they were sent scampering! Everything is roses and sunshine." I concluded with heavy sarcasm.

He just favored me with a measuring glance.

"Don't give me that look!" I said, trying not to lose the mood and laugh.

His scrutiny continued, and I finally did chuckle. "I want us to have the edge this time. I do not want to be blind-sided now or in the future."

"Preparing for it is one thing; anticipating it to the point of crippling inaction is something else altogether." He pointed out reasonably. "I know you are aware of this as much as I, so what you really need is to defang the predator before the strike."

I smiled, in happy relief. "Precisely! We need an edge, something to neutralize any trap before it is sprung."

"Then one avenue would be to send your evidence - before the meeting to those in authority who are beyond reach, not affected directly one way or another by the outcome, and not likely to be biased by even subtle pressure. A list of individuals in the Oversight Committee who can be informed beforehand."

"Ms. Fontein would have such a list." I said with a thoughtful expression. "I'll have her send the evidence Intel has gathered and let her make her contacts, ASAP."
Load lifted greatly, I started collating data into a securely encrypted packet. I knew better than most how to do that and leave no trail.

When I hit "Send" and got her receipt-notice, I grinned. "You are quite the invaluable help you know that?"

"That is always my endeavor." He answered wryly and I laughed.

I crossed to him and he and I exchanged a long kiss or several.

"Like all else you attempt, you're stellar at it!" I remarked. "Now that that's settled, I can enjoy you for the rest of the evening without hindrance."

His eyes upon me were soft and lovingly tender. "And I, you."

Yes Uhura, teaming up with your bondmate to grab the Sithly Panusconi is great. And Ms Fontein should be helpful

Yes, that is the thing I was shooting for: her sense of we cannot mess this up! And his help being professionally and emotionally what was needed. I do just adore it when he's being all smart. Oh, boy howdy! So do I! I love it when Thrawn is being smart too. Yuppers, the brilliance thing is definitely a gal-magnet.

 

Panusconi's cold eyes bored into Nyota. He'd been snipping at her all morning, hardly letting her finish her summation and rolling his eyes at her.

Finally, she had had enough.

"I don't know what they thought a wannabe diplomatic rep should be doing in these proceedings." He was saying.

She leaned across the table and snapped in a deadly calm: "You can go kriff yourself, Mr. Sheevy. Because I've saved the worst for last." She presented a signed affidavit from Nick Roberts. The panel of judges perused it and murmured amongst themselves and then pinned Panusconi with hard brutal eyes. Their verdicts were set, it appeared.

Ny's subsidiary and further list of judges, provided by Ms. Fontein, were listening in via vid-monitor. By the hard glances they were casting, I knew they too had seen the damning evidence.

Panusconi's counsel whispered to him urgently about what the document contained.

"I will not be held accountable," Panusconi rasped, "by something a distant relative did!"

I smirked. "I would quit while I was slightly not so far behind. My lifemate will also be testifying at the trial if that becomes necessary." I grinned.

The snark of a Solo blended with Luke's eloquence. I thought fondly. I couldn't help the continued comparisons from time to time, although I kept them strictly to myself. I did not usually verbalize them, but I did find other ways to express my feelings on the matter.

I love the idea of Nyota working in intelligence with Spock helping her behind the scenes to keep her concerns in check. This is going to be one cool diary, and I can already sense where the title is taking it

I was relaxing with Miranda after the close of the trial. Miranda was stopping by after a seminar on adjustment following prosthetic surgery for whatever reason - injury, accident, or illness.

"Interestingly enough, the psychological effects are pretty similar although if it was a traumatic, sudden cause, there are additional reasons for acclimating and grieving the change." She told Nyota as they sipped Chai tea. "The speed of recovery and the level of healthy balanced coping is more a reflection of how they've always coped. If they've always had a strong reservoir of grounding, etc., they're more likely to take less time than someone who's never acquired those skill sets."

I smiled. "I can imagine art therapy and therapy pets are an indispensable part of many programs."

Miranda grinned. "Dolphins and puppies - those would be my choice."

My eyes fell on the mantelshelf and I laughed. "Or action figures. I have Kyp Durron, Luke, Mara, and Grand Admiral Thrawn."

Miranda smirked. "Are they anatomical?"

"Yes, the green eyes for Kyp are very much dream-worthy. And Mara's body-glove ... very liberating for ease of movement in dance or combat."

Miranda choked on her tea. "Are you being deliberately obtuse, Ny?" She teased.

I laughed. "Sure thing 'Randi. These give the allusion of anatomical correctness. Have to leave something to the imagination."

"Were you surprised when Kyp wound up with Jaina?" Miranda asked. "I thought her and Jag would always ..."

"Yeah but their on and then off thing was a dead giveaway. I was happy she ended up with Kyp. He has that inscrutable complexity that just begs to overflow and be tapped. Like Spock although without the dark side stuff. Naturally. Thrawn has that too, that sense of more than meets the eye and what does is so incredibly intriguing and alluring!"

Miranda smiled. "Still heels over head aren't you?"

I smiled. "Can't help it. Not really trying. I really am glad for this visit before Audrey and I leave for our next mission. Mr. Westphal and Spock will be joining us. It's a very thorny problem. The government is - intractable to say the least. Their diplomats are paired, for crying out loud. Because they need a conciliator to translate for the rude dude. For a communications/diplomatic specialist like me, that should prove to be quite fascinating."
