    Title: Star Trek: Dark Aura
    Genre: Series
Characters: All original main characters, prexisiting supporting characters.

    Introduction:

Hello, hello! This is an idea I've been mulling over a long time now. I've been wanting to write an episodic, continuing series of sorts concerning Star Trek. However time has been my worst enemy, but now that I've gained extra time, here I am!

I intend to, as stated before, to write this as if it were a Star Trek TV show. I will post episodes, all though excerpts at a time. These excerpts will eventually form one whole episode, so as to be like a TV series. There will be seasons; in the title will be the current episode with the first number being the season, the second being the episode number. So for example, the first episode reads as this "1x1". I will of course be showing the date it was recently updated as well.

Also, anyone is free to write a full-length episode; this gives you a chance to felx your writing skills and join in on the fun.

This series is my own personal interpretation of a future in the Star Trek universe.

    So here we go!

    Synopsis:

The year is 2395. The Alpha Quadrant has changed, but not for the better. After the Dominion War, the Federation underwent even more conflict, both from outside their borders and within. Now smaller and less secure, and the overall direction of Starfleet aimed towards war, many long for a return to exploration. Meanwhile, a shaky alliance with the Romulans is barely holding. The Romulans have recently underwent a series of invasions by the Klingons, and the Federation has not been able to stop them. Although the attacks have ceased, the Romulans are wary. In these dark times, a ray of hope shines forth. A new form of faster than light travel has been perfected, the now even more advanced quantum slipstream drive. This will finally allow for a sanctioned exploration of the unknown depths of the Beta and Delta Quadrants. A new ship has been designed and tested, the U.S.S. Aura. Now, it remains ready to boldly go....

Here we are finally, the first episode begins....

    Episode 1x1 ?To Boldy Go??

Summary: The Aura, a highly advanced Sovereign Type II class vessel, equipped with the first ever perfected quantum slipstream drive, begins a voyage of discovery?

Far too often, humans don?t appreciate the wonders around them.

At least, that?s what Daryl Stone mused. Every morning, he?d awake, in his country home, order nonchalantly for some coffee from the replicator, and would shuffle his groggy self out to the porch. And every morning he?d gaze with a smile at the sunrise, his eyes fiery, and his composure resolute. Despite what could be said otherwise, he enjoyed that sight every morning. No one could tell him otherwise. To the day he was destined to die, he would never, ever be bored by a sunrise.

A rare breed, he would call himself. Not that his appreciation for nature, or his personality were an isolated occurrence among society; but the fact that he remained positive amid such turbulent times stood out like a Bolian among a crowd of Borg. The changes that had occurred in a mere twenty years, two thirds of Daryl?s life, had been devastating.

No longer was the Federation a bright and cheery wonderland, a haven for small and large peoples alike. War, the one bane a culture so close to paradise could not eliminate, had ensured that. The Dominion, the Bajoran Nationalist brush fires, the Oriental uprising, and most recently, the Breen Conflict, had all taken their toll. The Federation had been nipped at the heels for years now, and the stress was beginning to show.

An approximate total of 2,000,000,000 had given their lives in the numerous blazes of c

Very interesting, and of course any fic that starts out with a Picard appearance is quite nice.:) Definitely had the feel of a Trek pilot episode.

    Look forward to more.

?I won?t do it. I?ll resign before I have to.?

Te?sel?s brow furrowed in resolve; of course, his brow was always furrowed, but this time it showed more than the usual.

?You?d throw away your years of service and climbing the ranks over something as petty as this? Truly, you are a unique Romulan, Te?sel.?

At the commander?s words, Te?sel grew frustrated, as did his tone. ?Am I? Look around you. I am not the only one who resents our continual fraternization with the pathetic Federation. Times have changed, and this alliance and this putrid exchange program should have been terminated years ago.?

The Romulan commander merely remained placid. ?I will be honest with you, Te?sel. I have no trust or respect for the Federation, especially the humans. But just as the climate has changed for them, the same has occurred for Romulus. We have lost three fifths of our territory to the Klingons, who continually disrespect our prowess and ignore the empty threats of the Federation. We can not, and I repeat, can not afford to end this mutual alliance. If we lose their backing, the Klingons will resume their cowardly attacks upon our weakened empire and we may lose all we gained since our forefathers left Vulcan.?

Te?sel pondered the words, than replied. ?Perhaps you speak the truth, Commander. Perhaps I need to put aside my bias and put the interests of Romulus above my insignificant views.?

?Then let it be so, Te?sel. I regret having to let go of such a fine officer to a Federation vessel, but you will be performing a valued service to your people.?

    ?How can this be so??

?The Federation has agreed to share the findings and data they gather on this mission. It will be of immense scientific and military value to us. Keep in mind this is completely unfamiliar space we are talking about, Te?sel. They are purported to be exploring the depths of the Beta Quadrant and part of the Delta.? He snorted, and then grinned maliciously. ?Fools?they are giving us a phaser as to which to hold to their back.?

With a twinge of disappointment Te?sel spoke. ?Then I will not be under any covert directive.?

?No. You are to follow the orders of the commanding officer above you. As you will be a senior officer, there should be nothing you won?t be privy to. Besides, the Federation isn?t as blind as they seem. I can safely guarantee they will be surveying your communiqués back home.?

?We will be in range to do such?? he inquired.

?Surprisingly, yes. In anticipation of the perfection of slipstream technology, they have developed a new version of subspace communication technology. Only when they reach the edges of the galactic barrier will they lose their ability to communicate by subspace?.or so they say. Perhaps it is an exaggeration,? he suggested with a shrug.

    ?Is that all then, Commander??

?No, one last thing. You will be bringing your colleague Sarin with you, as he was part of the Romulan team of physicists who helped the Federation design Aura?s engine.?

?Very well then. I will begin preparations to depart.?

?A wise undertaking. You will be leaving in approximately 156 hours.?

Te?sel lowered his head in a reverent parting, and exited.

He grew quiet inside. He didn?t know why or how, but he was about to spend five years with humans. His internal thoughts shuddered at the prospect.

    * * *

The Aura was as magnificent as Daryl Stone had imagined her to be. In stunning fashion, her saucer section glistened brilliantly; large and imposing in a peaceful way, it was preceded by the engineering section, and two extended nacelles who were elongated like the awe-inspiring wings of an eagle.

He still couldn?t contain his inner joy. That was his ship. His ship. He had dreamed as a child of one day, commanding his own starship. He was fascinated by the exploits of Kirk, Picard, and Janeway.

Daryl could remember immersing himself in his family?s holodeck, playing the holonovels that fancied him, such as Attack of the Borg and So You

    1x1 "To Boldly Go" (cont'd)

Engineering was nothing short of breathtaking, an open area with slate bulkheads, state of the art monitoring systems, and the crowning center of it all, the neon-infused slipstream core. The room was in the shape of a medical cross, with four separate entrances, for each direction on the compass. Captain Stone entered through the South entrance, which was the main entrance due to its close proximity to the turbolift corridor.

Over by the warp core, commanding an engineering officer was a short lieutenant, about 5?8, with jet black hair and a light complexion.

    ?Captain Stone?welcome to Engineering.?

    ?At ease, Lieutenant Jameson.?

His composure eased. ?How can I be of help sir??

Daryl just remained entranced with the slipstream core. ?Nothing really?just having a go at the ship.?

?Its amazing isn?t it? I worked on this baby for eighteen months. Laugh if you will, but I?ve become attached in a way.?

Daryl stared at him playfully. ?Why would I laugh? I used to call our family?s shuttle LB.?

    ?LB, sir??

?Lady Bird. She was an American first lady from the 20th century.?

?History wasn?t ever my strong suit, sir.?

?That?s fine. You?ve managed with quantum mechanics as far as I can tell,? he admonished with a laugh.

?Sir, may I ask you a question.?

    ?Absolutely.?

?Is it?its true that you?ve assigned the Romulan to engineering??

?One of them, yes. Why is this of concern??

?I?m respectfully requesting you put him somewhere else, as I don?t want him under my command.?

Daryl?s face immediately grew withdrawn in frustration. ?Excuse me??

?I?m sorry sir, but I?I don?t want conflict in Engineering.?

Daryl?s eyes bored into Robert?s. ?Last time I checked, I?m responsible for personnel assignments. As far as I?m concerned, *Lieutenant*, you are under my command and that means you will cooperate with Sarin as far be it possible on your part. Do I make myself clear??

Robert clearly had more to say but sighed and nodded. ?Yes, sir.?

?Let me make this point, and make sure you hear it. The Romulan crew members will be shown courtesy and respect, and anyone who doesn?t will be demoted to waste management on Deck 11. Understood??

    ?Yes, sir.?

?Good. I will not allow prejudices to tear this crew apart. Back to work.?

The lieutenant scurried off to his duties, while Daryl closed his eyes in silent discouragement. As much as he disliked Romulans, he wanted to make sure his inaugural mission didn?t turn into a race riot.

Trying to shake off his worry, he head for his last stop on the tour, Sickbay.

He arrived on Deck 4 and entered the peaceful abode. Inside lay the latest in medical technology, upgraded bio-beds, and the entire room was decorated a tasteful beige.

    ?Dr. Reddick??

Daryl scanned the room, searching for his Chief Medical Officer.

    ?Hold on just a moment.?

He responded with an okay and stood rigid, still admiring the decorations and equipment.

A scruffy looking man, whose uniform was wrinkled, with white hair and a salt and pepper beard, decked with bifocals, entered from the adjacent office.

?Oh, it?s only you. Come in and tell me your problem.?

Daryl contained his surprise and smiled. ?Actually, I?m here to see Sickbay and meet you.?

He turned around swiftly, focused his bifocals, and grunted. ?Hello. Hi. Aloha. Does that satisfy your insatiable need??

Daryl struggled to keep in his amazement at the cantankerous Reddick?s disposition.

?Ummm?okay. Well, I?m your captain, and I?d like to get to know you better.?

?Really? Must have been thrown off by the pips.?

    ?Is something wrong??

    ?What are you blabbering about??

?You seem?upset. Annoyed. Have I nailed it yet??

He snorted and held his arms up. ?Why does everyone have to be happy? Why can?t I be scruffy and ornery if I wish to? Listen here, sir, I?ve been serving the Federation for 47 years. Seen things you young folk would cry over. I?ve earned my right to retreat to cynicism.?

?Are you asking for a trip to the brig

This is reading like a pure 24th century Trek series.

One question: Did you base your Doctor on Doctor House?

Any chance of any minor characters from previous series showing up as a part of this crew?

Thank you concerning the statement about the 24th century setting. That is what I'm aiming for, and glad to have reached that.

Yes, this Doctor shares similiarities to House, as I love his character and always wondered how a Captain in Star Trek would deal with such an abrasive dcotor as his Chief Medical Officer. However, he is not an exact replica, as he will show his own quirks, and he won't be nearly as cynical or rude as House is.

Minor and major characters will be showing up, albiet mostly not part of this crew. There will be one recurring character, who from a certain point of view, is a major Star Trek character.

OOC: Sorry guys about the long wait for an update. :)

Captain Stone rushed into the transporter room, cursing inwardly that was arriving late.

On the transporter pad lay in wait T'e'sel and Sarin, both in plain jumpsuits, apparently in an attempt to show neutrality.

Daryl smield diplomatically. "Hello. Te'sel and Sarin, I presume? Please, step off the pad."

Te'sel did as instructed and went forward to shake Daryl's hand. "You presumed correctly, Captain Stone. I am indeed Te'sel. I am here to serve as your first officer. This is my companion, Sarin, who will serve in engineering."

Sarin nodded, but did not shake Daryl's hand. His face didn't show any want to do either.

"Well, welcome aboard. Ensign," Daryl ordered with a plain face, " please escort Sarin to Engineering. Also, stay and make sure Lieutenant Jameson familiarizes Sarin with everything he needs to know." He then turned to Sarin. "I apologize for not getting to know you further, but at the moment, I must get to the bridge with Te'sel. I'll speak with you later."

Sarin cocked his head nonchalantly. "There is no need to apologize. You are a busy man I would assume."

Daryl clasped his hands in fornt of him. "Thank you for understanding. Shall we Te'sel?" He nodded once more and the pair began stalking the corridors towards the turbolift.

"So, Te'sel. I imagine you are feeling nervous right now."

"Perhaps. I'd assume the same of you, if i knew you better."

He grinned. "Well, as a matter of fact I am. Tell me a little about yourself. Your profile said you had a family."

He sighed menacingly. "Captain, do not take this personally. I am not here of my own accord. I was merely assigned here. I am here to assist you in this mission, not to grow familiar, to become "friends" as you humans seem so fond of doing so. Thus, my relationship with you will be strictly impersonal."

He laughed, not in playfulness, but in disdain, then stopped, looking Te'sel in the eye. "So that's it...you don't want to be here, so you're going to languish in your lonesome pit of self-pity, and merely perform your duties? If that's the case Te'sel, you're in for a rude awakening."

He stared back at him intently. 'And how would that be so, Captain?"

Daryl shook his head. "We are on a mission of exploration, not because we are ordered to, because we want to. If you have no desire to be here, why stay?"

Te'sel twitched his head to the side. "Perhaps you misheard me. I am under orders. To violate such by refusing them would dishonor me and cause me to lose my rank. Not my idea of a fall from grace if you ask me."

"So you're only here under duress is it, hmm? Well...I can't change your mind. All I ask is that you keep it open. We're going to be working together for quite awhile. I suggest, respectfully, that perhaps you reconsider. I have no preconceived judgements or opinions of you. I am not biased against Romulans, nor do I have anything against them...or you for that matter. Trust me...it's going to be a longer journey for you if you decide to keep to yourself."

Te'sel didn't show any emotion. "I will take your words into consideration. Now, shall we get going to the bridge?"

Daryl lowered his head as he grinned in a gesture of reluctant acknowledgement. "Aboslutely." Hep atted his comm. badge. "Ensign Pansche."

    "Yes Captain."

"Input our first destination, which should be in the deep Beta Quadrant."

    "Done, sir."

    "Engage, slipstream factor 9."

Daryl put his forward. "Let's get going, Commander Te'sel."

"Commander?" he inquired with a raised eyebrow.

"Yes...I am granting you a field rank, as a gestureo f my trust and goodwill."

He grew perplexed and his face appeared a bit strained. "Thank you, Captain."

Daryl and him resumed their walk towards the turbolift. Daryl, deep in his mind, sighed. This was going to be an enthralling, yet trying journey. And even though his hesitation took the forefront in his mind, he knew that he was prepared for it.

Excellent work Nyax! I just caught up on this fic and look forward to this mission.

I really enjoyed your introduction of Captain Stone. You divided the backstory equally from Stone himself and Picard. Well done. I enjoyed Admiral Picard's appearance very much. I could hear Stewart's voice. You portrayed him flawlessly.

I also enjoyed introduction of the rest of the senior staff, especially the Doctor. I couldn't tell, at first, whether his attitude was a joke and he knew already knew Stone or not. Clearly, Stone was put off by him. I think they will get along more as the story progresses. I like this Doctor Reddick.

As for the rest of the crew, we have an engineer with romulan prejudice and two Romulan officers determined to do their duty, regardless of "making friends". That won't last long. Or, it will, and we will have some real space drama.

Keep it up, Nyax. And, please add me to your PM list!

    Episode 1x2
    "Interference"
Summary: The Aura and her crew encounter an unexpected complication on their inaugural mission...

The bridge crew slauted Captain Daryl Stone as he took his command chair. "Report."

"We are making excellent speed sir. At our present course we should reach the first patch of space to explore within the hour," responded Ensign Pansche.

One day had passed since they'd set out from the rendezvous point with the Romulans. Daryl had time to visit his quarters, and make himself at home. He especially appreciated the matress, which was more comfortable then a Deltan back massage.

He rose, deciding he'd talk more with Lieutenant Emiko, as he neglected to speak to her more thouroughly earlier. He knew that he needed to get more acquainted to the senior staff. Daryl regret pne thing the most on his former stationing, and that was the cold and aloof nature of his captain.

"Lieutenant, I trust all is well."

Emiko blushed, and smiled. "Why yes, Captain. Can I assist you in some way?"

Daryl nodded his head and gave a gentle look of acknowledgement. "As a matter of fact, yes." He moved his hand forward to usher her down from her post. "I'd like to get to know you better."

She held her hand to her chest and appeared genuinely surprised. "Of, of course. I mm-ean. Ask, ask, as-...I'm sorry. I have a problem with stttt-stu- stuttering when I'm nervous."

"Really? As a younger adolescent, I had the same quandry."

"Really? My father never seemed to understand...I mean, it never, nnn-never ruined his relationship with me...but you could tell, you know."

He responded with a warm reassurance. "Aboslutely. I can understand, at least from a certain point of view. The other boys in my class used to make jokes at me, but when I played for the high school football team, I had the last laugh. But I'm not in any way comparing it what your father acted like. It must've been hard for you if he couldn't seem to understand."

"Thank you for the kind words sir. I'm just glad to know that I made him proud, joining Starfleet and all...and now look where I am!"

He twitched abit and smiled. "I'm just happy to have you as part of my crew. Now you know, there is a Counselor-" Daryl never finished the sentence, as he nearly was thrown off balance as the ship rocked. Emiko almost stumbled too, but managed to grab hold of a railing in front of her console and keep herself steady.

The ship shook again, more violently. Daryl began inching his way to his command chair, while Te'sel was doing the same.

    "Report!" he ordered.

Ensign Pansche began using her console to check the problem. "Im not sure Captain! It seems some unknown force is disrupting our slipstream!"

Commander Avis looked up, and yelled for the Captain. "Sir, it seems were caught in some sort of interdictor, that is trying to stop us from proceeding further by way of our quantum drive!"

He cocked his head towards her and gave her a look of disbelief. "That's impossible! Starfleet has theorized about it but..." His words trailed off, his thoughts trying to discern how it could be possible they'd already discovered such an amazing find. "Red Alert! All hands to their stations."

The klaxons blared and the bridge darkened, but that is when the shaking ceased.

"Whoah...what just happened?!" Daryl examined the bridge, making sure everything was okay.

"Engineering to the bridge, this is Sarin."

    "Sarin...where is Lieutenant Jameson?"

A brief silence punctuated the air, then he resumed. "I'm sorry to report that the slipstream drive is offline...and Lieutenant Jameson is severely wounded."

Captain Stone sprang to action without so much as a second thought. "Captain to transporter room one, lock on to Lieutenant Jameson and beam him directly to Sickbay. Tell Doctor Reddick I am on my way."

He then turned to Commander Avis. "Go down to enigineering, and do everything you can to get that slipstream drive working." At that, he began making his way hastily to Sickbay,

"Hold still, or I'll make sure to forget anesthetic," warned a seemingly callous Dr. Reddick. Lieutenant Jameson was restless, his mumbled words incomprehensible and insipid.

Daryl Stone quickly rushed into Sickbay as the doors closed behind him. "Report, Dr. Reddick."

"Oh, it's you again," he greeted sardonically, his bifocals slipping a bit as his nose twitched.

Daryl shook his head, frustrated with Reddick's statement. "Not now, doctor. What's the prognosis."

"Unfortunately he has sustained two compund fractures, a head concussion, and he is losing blood through a wound near the right bronchial artery."

Reddick then turned to him, and lowered his voice to speak more softly. "Captain, I don't know why you authorized our departure without our blood bank in place, but you did."

Daryl's chin twitched as his eyebrows raised in perplexion. "I never authorized that, and I don't think I want to hear what you're about to say."

He pinched his beard and grumbled. "Well you're going to. Jameson has a rare blood type, O-negative. And I've already checked our crew files. No one has the blood type, and as rare as it is required these days, he needs a blood transfusion. Badly."

Daryl stared intently at Jameson for a moment than returned to his conversation with Dr. Reddick. "You can't synthesize a blood subsitute or blood factors for him?"

Reddick frowned. "No, and while I applaud your thinking, I'm one step ahead of you. Jameson can't recieve synthetic blood substances. A key compound that exists in all such substances is listed on Jameson's medical record as an allergen."

Daryl leaned forward, the desperation in his face now showing itself.

Reddick grabbed his arm. "Captain...if I can't get a transfusion to Jameson soon, he will die. I'm going to continue exploring my options, but you must know the odds are against him. You may need to prepare a contingency plan in case of his death."

As blunt as Reddick was, Daryl indeed knew he spoke the truth. He swallowed hard and nodded. "Alright then. Keep me informed."

    "Captain Stone," hailed Lieutenant Emiko.

    "Any news on our predicament?"

"We have a large unknown vessel approaching. They are demanding to speak to you and *only* you."

Odd, thought Daryl. "On my way. Stone out."

    * * *

Daryl quickly shuffled his feet as he walked briskly onto the bridge. "Emiko, open a channel, visual if possible."

After sitting down in his seat, Emiko opened up communications. "You're on, audio only."

"This is Captain Daryl Stone of the U.S.S. Aura with the United Federation of Planets. We did not intend on stumbling upon your-"

Daryl was abruptly cut off by a cold and dark voice. "We will be the judge of that, human."

Daryl and the whole bridge crew bristled at the use of 'human'. They were supposed to be the first ever humans to explore this area...or so they thought.

"Again, we apologize if we trespassed upon your territory. We are willing to leave if you-"

"Quiet, infidel," he rudely inserted once again. "You are intruding upon Fendomar Outpost 4xc39. A violation as such is subject to us blowing your ship out of space. But we know that this is perhaps, your first encounter with our people. Therefore, we will be detaining you in our interdiction field until we've decided an alternative solution."

"This isn't justified," warned Daryl. "We have not done anything to provoke you. We are perfectly willing to turn around and find a way around your space."

"Not good enough," he stated forcefully. "You will not attempt to escape. Any such action would be viewed as hostile towards the Fendomar Imperium and penalized by our increased anger."

"I understand," responded Daryl cooly. "We will stay as a sign of our goodwill towards the Fendomar people."

"Wise decision human. Commander Lk'reris out."

Daryl motioned for Emiko to halt the communique.

"Alright, crew you heard him. We'd better stay put."

Commander Avis cleared her throat to speak. "With all due respect Captain, are we just to sit here and wait
