This is what seemed like a misreading. Christians believe that the so-called spiritual events literally happened. They do not share the viewpoint of the non-religious.

Then they weren't really ramifications for the universe at large; in other words, they didn't really happen. This adequately summarizes the viewpoint that sees Christianity as a myth, but fails to accurately describe the Christian viewpoint. In similar fashion, we are meant to understand that the destruction of the Sith literally allows for the return of balance to the Force.
