I know nothing about Wagner but I got a very cheap copy of the Ring cycle recently and one opera in particular - I think it's called Siegfried (the reason my copy is so cheap is that all the notes etc. are in German) -- really reminds me of Williams' scores for the SW films, with both musical and stylistic echoes. I'd really appreicate it if any Wagner/Williams afficiandos could comment on Wagner's influence.

Me! I'll be able to tell you! :D Williams followed Wagner in respects that Wagner used to give individual themes to all his main characters.

As you come from old blighty as well, try getting "Wagner" published by "Classics for Pleasure" on CD. Not only was it performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra (the best orchestra in the world!), but it only cost me about £5 down MVC a few months ago! It has all the best stuff from The Ring, including Ride of the Valkyries and Siegfried's Funeral March
