It's a miracle! I actually played as Boba Fett in galactic assault.:boba:
Sure I would have preferred Maul, but it's just awesome I got a hero at all.

Of course before this I played the Slave I three times over in the space mission.
It's a lot easier to get heros in that than Galactic assault. I suppose it's because there are less people competing for them.
And they all have a massive target painted on their back.

The heroes feel so much more balanced this time around, and for that I'm truly thankful. I still think the ships could do with some tweaking. The Falcon just seems like a tank.

And speaking of Starfighter Assault. I LOVE this mode. It's a huge improvement over the previous game and is pure joy to play. Total freedom of movement, great controls, balanced abilities, balanced ships (the A-wing is no longer clearly the best ship) and a great fun and interesting mode with different stages. The only complaint I have is that I've never seen the Rebels win. I'm not sure whether this is because it requires a lot of teamwork and people haven't quite figured out how to play it yet, or it's because the game is inherently stacked in favour of the Imperials (who only have to shoot down rebel ships). Anyone seen the Rebels win this one?

How do you evade missiles? It seems you can't just press the d pad like in the last game.

You have to dodge manually. Either find an obstacle to fly around, or fly in a tight circle towards the direction of the missile - I believe it's indicated on your HUD as a yellow triangle.

Also, generally, the old rule in the X-wing holds true here - never fly in a straight line for more than a few seconds.

The flight mechanics and different classes of ships are so flippin' great. It's an enjoyable challenge trying to master it all. I've won several times as the rebels, but it takes some dedicated time with the Y-wing for sure. I've been lucky with the crates and now have all three card slots filled with rare cards for my bomber class, so I can do some work.

Has anyone actually won as the Republic defending the Throne Room? I've played the mode a few times and haven't had a win as the Clones yet.

Yes, I've won several times. You just need to keep killing seppies until their reinforcements dry up (The red number at the top of the screen hits zero.)

It's a lot easier to drain their reserves before the throne room. General rule of thumb in my experience is if before they break through security, they have less than twenty (After winning the objective they gain thirty more) it should be easy to wipe them out. If they still have a lot of numbers, it will be a lot harder. Not impossible, I have actually managed to wipe out like 60 of them in the throne room before, just a lot harder.

Really a side mission when it comes to the ATT is just plain killing them. Its ideal to kill as many as possible in the first two rounds, if that bar hits zero in either of them the Seps lose. If not, then its that much easier in the next round.

Actually I find the seps have a much harder job. I think I've only actually won as them one or two times. Not only do they have to guard that transport, but they have to preserve their lives too. All the Republic has to do is stop them, one way or another, with far less constraints.

The Starfighter game mode is a bit easier. I've never really been one for space combat, but if I get frustrated in galactic assault I'll go there to blow off some steam. Less players, less places to hide, lower point scores. It's just a bit calmer.

Speaking of wins as the CIS, one match I've just been in has had the Republic reduce the reinforcement count down to zero, but the CIS won the overtime - both times. And that was with the ATT almost drained to zero as well.

After three days of spending essentially all of my time at work watching BF2 streams, I have the beta waiting for me tonight.

This game makes bf 1 look amazing. Count me out. Mechanics are terribly slow and clunky. After 2 years of bf 1, this game makes me feel like I'm playing in slow mo.

It took me a while to get used to how different it is from the first game but now that I've got the hang of it more I'm enjoying it. I'm not very good with the assault and the specialist but I'm decent with the Heavy and Officer classes.

I doubt I'm going to get to be able to play as a hero judging by every other game so far. I actually liked the token system for the heroes the original had and I think they should of kept that personally. I did manage to rack up a killstreak of 9 with a Super Battle Droid though. That was fun.

Though you can't actually use them in gameplay in the beta, some of the new emotes are quite funny too. They're worth looking through.

Filmscoremedia has posted some tracks from BFII, including Yoda's theme (featuring sections based directly off tracks from both ESB and AOTC), and an 18 minute main menu suite:

Another thing I forgot to mention, is that it adds to the immersion hearing actual music from the films in the game. Apart from the title music and a little of the Imperial March, the last game had original music that wasn't really that memorable.

There is something just so triumphant about winning galactic assault as the Confederacy.
I suppose its because the republic can win at multiple levels, which it does all the time, while the confederacy has to win all three objectives to emerge victorious.

A couple hours ago I was playing the droids, and the Clone almost completely ignored the ATT. We entered the palace with 100 troops! And creamed them! Two rounds in a row!
    It was amazing.:D

In addition, during my last round of space battles I managed to get Darth Mauls Scimitar and earned myself MVP status.
I love the cloaking device on that thing.[face_cowboy]

Someone managed to get past the arcade menus giving us a glimpse of custom arcade options -

    Interesting to say the least.

Loving the beta. Takodana is fantastic. Loving the limited customization that we’re allowed. Starfighter Assault is glorious.

    Nice!

I finally went to the Dark Side and started using the heroes and reinforcements. The Falcon is good fun to play as is the Slave I (when I'm not crashing it) and the jump troopers on Takodana are really easy to play as.

Still loving Starfighter Assault, it's definitely the highlight of the new game. I only hope that the arcade mode will include some form of it.

Just popping in to say that Battlefront 2 is a major step-up from the first one. I enjoy this beta far more than the full release of Battlefront 1.

-Class systems just add much more variety, and having more easily-accessed vehicles for both sides really brings me back to that feel of the original Battlefront. Without classes I don't think the Separatists would've been possible to include unless they really wanted to make it barren and boring.
-Ship Combat is done FAR better. Braindead lock on made any sort of skill pointless in B1, I'm glad they redid the system to be like that of War Thunder. Also glad that hero ships aren't basically invincible now.
-The point system removes all the annoyance of running after tokens, you have to actually earn the good stuff now. Which gives incentive to complete the objective since that's where you get lots of points. It feels good to buy a Super Battle Droid with your points.
    -Rolling!
-No more of those dumb cards.

Definitely buying when the full release arrives.

^ I agree, completely. I absolutely love this game, at least from experiencing the beta. Starfighter is much improved.

I am still completely terrible, but at least I'm having fun being terrible, which was rarely the case in EABF1.

    Definitely a buy.

I'm totally shocked people who played bf 1 are enjoying this game. Was the movement in bf 1 too fast for people? Everything from the mechanics of the characters movement to the response from buttons is slow and sticky. I used to be able to throw a grenade into a doorway and roll to the side in one fluid motion in bf 1. Now forget it. Just roll away, grenade never leaves my hand. It's like this game can only accept commands one at a time. Total downgrade for me.

After spending some time with it some thoughts:

    Good
    - Units seem to have a better survivability, especially with more heavily armored classes. This changes the flow of battle, and gives yourself and teammates an opportunity to prioritize targets. Something that didn't really happen when everyone was running around as the same thing in Battlefront 1.
    - I really enjoy how the points system allows you to requisition different 'special' units. Like what I said before, it adds more versatility to how the sides combat each other. Some of my best runs have been as the B2 Rocket Droid, zipping around being a nuisance. (Cooldown on the jetpack abilities may be too short and overpowered though atm. I expect they'll make the wait longer).

    Bad
    - The map for strike seems really awkward. All the weapon ranges are just way too long and accurate, and the Resistance side feels really disadvantaged not being able to go into the woods. I just kept getting killed by potshots from the forest.
    - This may be just me, but the beginning section of Theed feels awkward as well. Things are almost way too spaced out for the amount of players on the field. Also, whenever the MTT shot is shot by the Ion disruptor it feels like it recovers way too fast. Sometimes I can't even get there in time to shoot one shot at it before its shields are back up. Maybe a longer vulnerability timeframe and more health would help with that? I just feel like I'm not contributing to the objective!
    - I still don't know why the hell the developers feel the need to make other weapons 'abilities'. Why can't there be a system of primary and secondary weapons? It just really pulls me out of the experience and feels needlessly complicated to have a 'special ability' to whip out a pistol or a small shotgun. I've played a lot of Battlefield 1 and to be honest, I really would prefer if Battlefront's mechanics were more similar to Battlefield's.

    Maybe?
    - vw_jedi is on to something with the sluggishness and control. It's definitely changed. It works well enough for me but feels totally different and I can't quite decide how I feel about it.
    - I'm absolute trash at flying with my Xbox controller, so until I can get a new joystick and actually be competent I have nothing to say about Starfighter Assault.

I probably won't buy it at release. I need to see more footage and more opinions.

I still love BF2015 and will miss it, but personally I don't mind the new mechanics as much. Not that there was anything wrong with being able to shoot/jump/throw grenades while rolling--it made infantry play quite fun and competitive in fact--but I can live without it, too. Rolling is purely a defensive maneuver now instead of some kind of ninja strategy. Same thing goes for hip firing, which now has an accuracy penalty as I understand. I'm adapting to it and enjoy the challenge of working within new limitations, plus getting to know all the ins and outs of things the previous game didn't have.
