It’s been confirmed: one of the spin off movies created by Disney under the Star Wars genre will be about the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett.

Fans have been pumped for months now, trying to hear any kind of word about the upcoming new Star Wars movies that have been green lit by the Disney acquisition. While the original trilogy started out to mildly successful numbers with Episodes IV (A New Hope), V (The Empire Strikes Back) and VI (Return of the Jedi), it was only years later with a number of other successes under his belt that Lucas was able to return to the series, presenting the three prequels to the original trilogy in Episodes I (The Phantom Menace), II (Attack of the Clones) and III (Revenge of the Sith). Now, Disney has granted fans Episodes VII, VIII and IX of the franchise, along with rumored offshoot stories about some of the past characters. It is believed that the original three stars, Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo) will reprise their roles in at least Episode VII, though none of the three can officially confirm due to the secrecy behind the series. The first of the three movies is to be directed by J. J. Abrams, who has recently brought back the Star Trek movies to intense proportions, which Disney no doubt hopes he will do for their rival science fiction franchise.

Rumors have been flying about who the spinoff movies will focus on, with some voting for a Han Solo background movie, an R2D2 movie, or a hairy episode about the Wookie, Chewbacca, with others wondering how the Hutts became the power on the desert world of Tatooine. Still more are curious how Yoda, that little green creature first seen as a crazy swamp animal in The Empire Strikes Back could have become such a lightsaber-wielding bundle of furry. Another person of interest to fans is the bounty hunter Boba Fett, whose origins were somewhat revealed in Attack of the Clones when movie goers saw him as the child clone of Jango Fett, the only clone created from the previously-fabled bounty hunter with all of Fett’s original behaviors and personality in place.

But according to John Schnepp, the director of Metalocalypse, the Star Wars Boba Fett movie is confirmed as moving forward. Speaking to AMC Movie News and swearing to never reveal his source, Schnepp confirmed that the Boba Fett movie is in production and that Lawrence Kasdan is penning the script.

This could be excellent news to the fan community, who are likely familiar with Kasdan’s other scripts such as Return of the Jedi, The Empire Strikes Back, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Kasdan is also reported to be working on the Episode VII script with J. J. Abrams.

Other rumors about Disney moving forward with incorporating the Star Wars franchise into the Mickey Mouse fold are abound as well. Those who have recently been to Disneyland may have noticed the Star Wars section in a multitude of stores, where miniature Luke, Han and Leias can be bought wearing little Mickey Mouse ears. But the larger belief is that Disney is working behind the scenes to revamp Tomorrowland for the expected release of Episode VII next year. Recreations of the Tatooine Cantina as well as the Millennium Falcon are believed to be part of the new Tomorrowland adventure, as well as a speeder bike journey through an Ewok Village.

However, the only thing that can be confirmed for now, according to John Schnepp, is that Boba Fett will be starring in his own Star Wars movie in the years to come.
