I was going to make the same joke. Zahn was hoped for in the first ten posts in this thread. The answer is always Zahn or Stover until we have a real answer.

Or Aaron Allston will walk on stage at Celebration panel, say "Yub Yub, Commander", and drop the mic to a series of fireworks

No, Catalyst is the prequel novel, not the prequel comic.

(Sad to hear about the latter being cancelled, though).

It sounds like they've only stopped pre-orders for some unknown reason. Could that just be a sign they're rearranging their plans behind the scenes? Maybe they want to push it back further to prevent leaks? I'm not sure what's involved with a pre-order, but I've gotten most of my SW stuff on pre-ordered on Amazon a week before the actual release date, which makes me think it changes something with their shipping schedule and things are shipped earlier than they really should be.

[face_shame_on_you] Comics and novels are two different things.

They did the same thing with the C-3PO one-shot last year - solicited it then changed their minds.

Yeah, heard just now that's why it was so delayed, nothing to do with Marvel!

Rogue One shouldn't have too many tie in novels/comics anyway. It's supposed to be a standalone spinoff, not it's own era :p

Hey, the Battlefront game got a short story and a great, world-building and character-rich novel, and the game itself doesn't even feature a story or new character! You don't need a new era to have a door opened to cool new storytelling possibilities.

There isn't one, just a net acquaintance elsewhere had heard that apparently that's why that one-shot took so long.

I can believe it, especially where multiple corporations are involved.

BleedingCool has some info on why the Rogue One comic is being delayed/canceled:

"I’m told it’s all down to rewrites. Re-writes, reshoots, changes to the movie and no time of budget for a comic book creative team to keep reworking and reworking pages."

That's not so bad then. If they get a chance to do it again in the future, it might even be better in some regard, since they won't run the risk of erroneous elements and get us canon sticklers in a tizzy (Admiral Mikkelsen's bathrobe had polka dots, not stripes!) and they can even include a few more scenes that add depth to the plot (now we know Admiral Mikkelsen stood in line 30 minutes to get his space latte and that's why he was late for the Death Star board meeting!)

He should have used a freeze gun, it saves time.

Who knows. Maybe the comic was centered around some background characters whose involvement in the movie got either changed or eliminated all together. They just scheduled a couple weeks of reshoots. No big deal. That stuff happens all the time. The novel is still on.

I wish Star Trek movie tie-in comics had the attention to detail that Star Wars comics have. I'm still bothered by the Star Trek Countdown prequel comic to the Star Trek 2009 film, which very clearly has Spock resting on the planet Vulcan when the dangerous supernova goes off. And then the movie has a scene where Spock is very clearly flying a spaceship trying to stop the supernova when he sees it go off in shock. Those who have seen the film know that this is a very important distinction tying into the villain's motivation, but it's so different between the prequel comic book and the movie itself.
