Lucas' idea for new Star Wars Prequel?

Posted May 25, 2005, 5:27 PM ET by Peter Sciretta

George Lucas said he was finished with the Star Wars movies. Ebert didn't believe him, Karina didn't get it, but more importantly - WE wanted more. Stupid Us. It seems George Lucas told a scooper that he has an idea for another add-on to the Star Wars movie series: a prequel to The Phantom Menace. The story would follow the Jedi regaining control of the universe from the many Dark Lords some 88 years before Anakin Skywalker ever graced the universe. Yoda, who, according to Lucas, was instrumental in the effort, would apparently have a headlining role. However, Lucas, now age 60, says he won't be captaining such a ship if it ever happens.

Oooh, both would be well suited for it. I think Peter Jackson would rock it. I'd like to see how Silent Bob handles one of the TV episodes, first...

I wonder if Lucas would just do a treatment, like ESB and ROTJ, then let someone else write the script (oh dear god, please)...

I think he would... from what he says is he will produce the shows, maybe do treatments but he has to start with the next indy movie and he has plans for other films in the works.

I know he respects both of the directors... so we will see...

I'd say at least a 5. Fox (and others) will put a bit of pressure on him to do one more. He'll produce. Maybe even just made for TV. That'd still be good...

What about Spielberg? I think he could do a good job.

Ep 0? I'd rather have 7, 8 and 9. But hey no complaining another film is great with me :D

Speilberg is as busy as Lucas these days... hense why we have waited 3 years since the announcement of another Indy film and no script has even been written... cause their schedules need to be cleared.

    Nah, Jackson - maybe Rodriguez.

If it's going to take another 3 years for a movie, I'd just as soon not have one. I'd much rather see the tv series developed with the peripheral characters that Lucas was talking about.

If a new movie comes out that would be great, but I won't be disappointed if it never happens. I hope they write a bunch of books about the old republic.

Same here Matt! I want more books! I am still on the waiting list for the ROTS novelization so I am going back reading some of the old novels. Of course, now that I am starting down the path to senility, when I read them, it's like reading them for the first time.

I think if they make more it needs to be 1000 years before TPM. That would be a great time period and we can see how the Jedi defeat the sith as well as Darth Bane and why he came up with the Master and Apprentice only relationship. I think that would contribute to the whole story and give Revenge of the Sith more depth;) Just imagine the enormous battles fought, not with blasters or stupid droids, with LIGHTSABERS!! If only it could be...
