Greetings from ALBINO! We are a ten-piece afro-funk ensemble from SF that was recently named "Best Band" in the East Bay Express 2009 Best of the Bay Awards. We're taking a Star Wars Halloween show on tour around Northern California this week and all Star Wars fans and lovers of The Funk are invited. We'll be performing in Eureka (10/28), Nevada City (10/29), Sebastopol (10/30), and San Francisco (10/31 at the Independent). Details below, please help us spread the word.

ALBINO! Halloween Tour: STAR WARS Episode A!

Strap on your lightsaber this Halloween and join us for the most ambitious and entertaining production we have ever attempted. On this tour, all ten of us will perform in costume as major characters from the epic film trilogy. We'll serve up afrobeat-laced renditions of soundtrack numbers along with plenty of on stage hijinks sure to disgrace your favorite characters and scenes from the films.

Not sure what to be yet for Halloween? Why not take part in the theme with us by dressing up as a minor character from the Star Wars galaxy. Think Ewok, Jawa, Tusken Raider, droid, stormtrooper, Imperial Officer, cantina creature, Jabba groupie, zombified George Lucas, etc. Or do a major character if you *must* but you must not look better than we do. Attendees in Star Wars Costumes will get in at the door for the advance ticket price at the Independent. If you would like to appear on stage with us as an extra in Eureka, Nevada City, Sebastopol, or SF (dates below), or if you just need a costume consult please email calreichenbach(at)yahoo(dot)com with the subject line "May the Funk be with you..."

Don't worry, Earthlings in traditional Halloween garb or even street clothes are more than welcome too. Just don't get caught on top of Jabba's trap door chute...

Opening in Eureka and Nevada City will be the wickedly funky Pimps of Joytime from Brooklyn. Opening on Halloween night at the Independent will be the Pleasuremaker Band, hosts of long running weekly Afrolicious residency at SF's Elbo Room.

Sounds like an interesting event but it is not sanction by SF Fan Force as one of our official events. In the future events posted on these boards need to be cleared with our City Representative and the SFFF's Council prior to posting. JedHead1 or SFFF Council, care to chime in on this? :)

Well, speaking for myself, I already have plans for all those days, and yes, all events should be run by me, or any of the council members, expecially if you're not a SFFF member.

You could always contact theforce.net and post it there.

I got the same e-mail Matt did regarding this event. I see no harm in passing along this Star Wars related San Francisco event. We post lots of Star Wars related stuff on these boards. We just have to preface that since we do not know if this has been LFL sanctioned/approved, that we are not officially like, volunteering in costume or anything for this event. We are just passing along the info if people want to pay to attend this Star Wars related event - same as we would for any kind of San Francisco event we think our members might like to attend.

I thought we agreed in the previous meeting that any SFFF member can post a potential event idea to the boards without running it by council first? Now we are going back on that word?

I think as long as we are not being roped into volunteering in costume for this, or volunteering our time to help with an event that might not have been approved by LFL - we are fine. And since we agreed at our last SFFF meeting that the prefix "EVENT:" was going to be used for events initiated by actual SFFF members, I think the only edit that needs to be made to this post is to have the "EVENT:" prefix stripped since none of our members are really proposing this as a group activity. (if it turns out a group from SFFF does want to get together for this, we can edit the prefix back in).

By-the-way, just like Matt, I've got plans on Halloween so I wouldn't be going to the concert either.

Like my bro said, this person is NOT an SFFF member, so he probably should've passed it on to him, or one of us first. But I have plans those days anyway. Too bad, its sounds intersting. If only it had been posted much earlier.

Well, he did e-mail Matt over the weekend about it. I just asked Yvette to remove the title "EVENT:" since it was not actually a proposed event by an SFFF member. But there are not really any Fan Force rules against posting Star Wars related events on the forums. That's what they are here for.

Even though this post is about a local star wars related event, I can taste a hint of "spam". It may be because none of us know who the author is, because the account was created yesterday this is the only thread created by it. I doubt the OP will ev even check back on it and make any replies.

That's the thing Kat... Look at the membership date of the poster. This month. Also... To be an official SFFF member on needs to be known by face, not screen name soley. Had Matt deem this event legit and fine he could of posted the same info as he is a SFFF member but we have no idea who this is. It could be:
    [image=http://blogtown.portlandmercury.com/images/blogimages/2009/09/22/1253637561-admiral_ackbar.jpg]

Also by allowing every "event" post through it could be interpreted as spam, like Blu Ray said. As a security measure it's important to track and control the things we deem events for we'd be liable to an extent I feel... What if someone did go without the fighter escort of the rest of the fleet and something happened? I'll do it cos trapping Rogue Leader only makes me more dangerous... ;) but I'd be concerned for the rest.

Anyway, SFFF members CAN totally post events, no worries. It IS preferable that they'd be cleared with the CR and such as to avoid conflicting events and mass confusion.

Sorry If I've ruffled feathers with that post, and am glad you saw fit to edit the title. No Im not a previously contributing member to these boards or SFFF. However, this event is more than legit, put on by an award winning band of professional musicians from your fair city who love star wars and have put more time, money, and energy into producing this event to keep that spirit alive than we will ever gain in return. Even if all the shows sell out. Wearing a Vader helmet under hot stage lights while doing choreography in platform heels for two hours is a serious injury risk to boot. Christ I even arranged the film soundtrack afrobeat style and learned to play guitar with a lightsaber for this!

I joined this forum and posted the event (which includes my email address btw) because I believe it is something people passionate about Star Wars would enjoy and should know about. Hope that does not constitute an abuse of the system. If so, long live the Rebellion.

THAT'S NO MOON! Death Star Hovering Over San Francisco, Panicking Residents Prepare to Party

(AP Newswire) Calls from panicked San Francisco Bay Area residents reporting sightings of what appears to be an Imperial Death Star abobve the city began flooding SFPD and metro area media offices on Monday afternoon. Shortly thereafter, a Imperial Class Star Destroyer appeared above the Bay "instantly out of nowhere, from a blurry streak out of the sky" according to one eye witness. The gigantic triangular spacecraft is presently hovering near Golden Gate Bridge. Smaller passenger craft have been emerging from within the mothership and touching down at various locations near the waterfront. At presstime, we have an unconfirmed report that a small batallion of Stormtroopers marching down Divisidero Street has seized The Independent, a popular live music venue. Insiders speculate that Rebel forces are preparing for a Halloween night showdown there. Home videos of the nearly completed battle station and space craft over the city are mulipying on the Web and YouTube like wildfire. Stay tuned for breaking details. Heh, looks like it was more than an one post wonder. That builds a lil more confidence I'm sure... We've had rather interesting issues in the past concerning security here. I for one have seen more of them than I'd like to... Still, the post was just an example of new measures we're still tweaking to improve our club as well as to promote events we can get behind. You wouldn't have known about this so no apologize are necessary.

It's always kinda odd when some unknown person comes up and posting something and none of us have had any prior exposure to them. Thus there's a sense of hesitation and even danger there. I for one leave nothing to chance if I can help it but I also know what it means to Rebel against a consensus and just send out information regardless of opinion. I think most of us have plans coming up but feel free to post and join our club here. When we get to know you further I think most people will feel comfortable engaging from that point on.

Oh that video and pics... old news. lol We saw those many months ago... I think I posted it. :p

Let's not overreact to this. *sigh*

If TFN has no issue with a SW related concert being promoted on Fan Force boards then it's OK. I had the moderator look it over, and if it had violated TFN posting rules they would have deleted it. It's borderline spam, but it could also just as easily have been something you guys would all really want to attend and have been thankful for the info. Hardly a 'security' issue.

It looks like a legit concert. Maybe someone here will want to check it out and have some fun. Could be a fun show to watch.

If someone is a RL or 501st member though, I think they will know they probably can't participate as an extra on stage (I'm looking into that, but right now we can't be active participants. Anyone can go watch the show in costume though.).

It's my job to "overreact"... It's better than underreacting. Trust me. [face_tired]

Maybe so... still... I have good reasons to raise concern from past experience. This looks to be a legitimate concert and I'm sure people will have fun. However, if this had happened on other groups boards and no one knew who this person was don't you think there would be hesitation concerning this as well? Or should we have no security at all...

TFN's criteria as to what's secure isn't absolute... things have slipped through in the past. TRUST ME... Oh the stories I could share... lol

I'm not saying that there shouldn't be trust with new posters, that's not it, this is different as it calls for people to show up somewhere live and there's a limit to as how much trust is placed when it's someone new and technically "faceless".

However, considering the information posted by Albino I think this event is legit and looks fun... If anyone here makes it out there then let us know how it was. :)
