Jokes like that aren't funny. I almost had a heart attack. Only thing that would be worse would be Troy Denning. Right?

    I don't know ... Stephenie Meyer hasn't had a book out in a while.

Stars, I was just thinking about people who'd already written SW books in the past. Don't scare me like that.

This made me literally LOL. The internet reaction would have been SO worth it.

According to Quest, Alan Dean Foster is writing this, and it'll release as an ebook first the same day TFA premiers in theaters, with a hardcover release sometime in January.

Honestly, not very excited by the choice of author. I mean, after The Approaching Storm...

Yeah, still - one less book to bother with, there'll be plenty others!

As stated before, Alan Dean Foster did the last two Abrams Trek novelizations, doesn't surprise me he got the gig and it's kinda fun to see his name "actually" on a novelization, which is fair considering he's written two of them. The release date - first ebook & January hardcover - is a bit surprising, though, the last two Abrams Trek novelzations were released, like, the Tuesday after the movie came out. Still gonna wait for the paperback anyway so it's all elementary to me but interesting if they muck with the release that much.

Ugh, no kidding. Have they even read the reviews for the last Star Wars book he wrote, The Approaching Storm? They're not good!

Hm, I should get around to rereading the OT novelization someday. I don't read that many movie novelizations, but still, how nostalgic to see his name attached to a Star Wars movie novelization. Guess they're being really careful with the spoilers.

My guess for the funky release is they don't want books sitting around at retailers a week or two before the movie comes out. Only way to remedy that and still have a day one release is to delay the physical and go ebook only December 18.

Gone are the days of novelizations out a full month before the films (or half a year, in the first movie's case).

Well, that is just lovely, an eBook is completely useless to me.

But, even if it was out in hardback, you wouldn't read it anyway Zeta!

    Or would you?

I bet the TFA hardcover novel is released alongside the TFA comic adaptation early next year also.

Passes through least amount of hands, and can be edited basically up to the minute in terms of release/film edit details. Smart choice.

Hmm, conflicted. Foster is a cool choice to bring all of the novelizations full circle, and I actually quite liked TAS. But his recent Trek novelizations have been pretty vanilla, so I'm crossing my fingers.

I liked Foster's Star Wars novelization. I didn't care for SotME or TAS, but I found that his writing style is different doing adaptations. I think he's a great writer who doesn't have the best plot ideas, but he doesn't need to do that for a novelization. In totally on board with this choice.

It's probably true that he handles novelizations differently than his original work.

    But still...

I was hoping for Stover to return ala Owen Deathstalker, or even JJM.

    Ah well, saves me money.
