So we are getting a movie novelization. Is it true that Alan Dean Foster is doing it and it is first coming out as an e-book and then a hardcover? or this a bunch of bull****?

I was thinking in terms of him doing both the first novelization for the first trilogy (release-wise) and then also the first novelization for the last trilogy...that we know of. To bring it full, full circle for Episode 9...hey, what's James Kahn up to these days?

I hope Luke still doesn't know what ducks are. Or he has a whole paragraph explaining what ducks are because he's wise in the ways of the Force / world.

Anything like Obi-Wan thinkin about making love while fighting Vader would hopefully not reoccur, though.

I'm kind of glad that JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy aren't letting me read the novel before the movie comes out.

    Because I totally would.

As would I. It's like forced self-control. Which makes it not really self-control at all.

Not really pleased with the selection of author. At all. It's almost certainly doomed to be a vanilla, by-the-numbers snoozefest in Foster's hands.

But I'm very glad the book won't be released prior to the movie.

They could put Stover's name on the cover but gave ADF actually write the thing. Then it would really feel old school. :p

Stover would have been my number one pick but I'm happy with Foster.

Wouldn't it be great if this novelization was just filled to the brim with continuity errors and weird Earth references just for fun? That would make me smile and infuriate me at the same time.

I hope it mentions Luke's pet dog that he used to own again. In a completely inappropriate moment of the book.

I actually hope he does it in a retro style before the Star Wars universe was so rigidly defined so Foster can be creative while writing it but the story group nazis would never allow it.

It's a nice homage to the past buuuut I was hoping for a better author. Also, I'll miss GL's approach to the novelizations, collaborating with the authors to include new content etc. ADF has talked about his two JJA Trek novelizations and they follow the final cuts of the films exactly :p Oh well, it'll look good on the shelf.

I don't know about now, but back in the early 2000s he was a writer on Star Trek: Voyager. I think that should disqualify him. :p

Heya, Bryan Fuller worked on Voyager and he's gone on to do some awesomeness. Heck, even Brannon Braga got a few seasons of 24 under his belt!

So, according to the novelization panel (per T2ndQ in the Celebration thread), the only two choices they had for this book were ADF and James Kahn. They went with ADF but are keeping Kahn in mind for other projects in the future.

Kahn was on the panel, apparently. He said he wrote the entirety of the RotJ novel in less than a month.

So, is George Lucas gonna ghostwrite it for Alan Dean Foster this time?

Ha! Interesting. I definitely would have preferred Kahn over Foster. But that news is encouraging- he might even do a non-adaptation novel.
