I have always considered Revenge of the Sith to be a play on the title Return of the Jedi. Both films were the third of their trilogy. I am therefore speculating that the first film of the sequel trilogy will be a play on the title A New Hope. How does A New Beginning sound?

 

All the titles are plays on the titles of their other trilogy counterparts. Menace is the opposite of Hope, Clones represent the Republic, which is the opposite of the Empire. Sith are of course the opposite of the Jedi.

But the pattern of the title references sequentially by episode number has been opponent, allie, opponent, allie, opponent, allie. So I'm expecting the E7 title to follow suit and reference an opponent.

 

I have a better idea. How does A New Fear sound?

I just realized that I am not the first one to think of the title A New Fear. Since I haven't read through every page of this discussion, I also realize that I may not be the first one to think of the title A New Beginning as well. I would be happy with either title.

If you consider the previous titles:

A NEW HOPE: is this a reference to Luke being a new hope for the jedi or is it referring to the Death Star's destruction bringing hope to the freedom of imperial rule?
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK: quite obvious
RETURN OF THE JEDI: is this a reference to Luke becoming a Jedi or Anakin's redemption from the dark side?

A PHANTOM MENACE: assumption is that's it's Palpy's underhand activities, but could Anakin not be the menace - as ultimatley it's he that brings about destruction and chaos for the next 20 odd years
ATTACK OF THE CLONES; quite obvious
REVENGE OF THE SITH: quite straight forward, but what are they revenging?


I'd like to see a title that can have multiple meanings after viewing the film/trilogy, not sure on what that could be without seeing the story arcs which it will follow.

 

I always viewed "The Phantom Menace" title as representing 3 people:

Palpatine: He was the Phantom Menace Cause he was in the shadows and was really the Emperor.
Darth Maul: He was the Phantom Menace Cause he was the Sith Apprentice in the Shadows.
Anakin: He was the Phantom Menace cause he was Destine to be the one but he was an innocent child therefor nobody thought he would be evil (Well Yoda and Mace felt he was too old for training and had to much fear)

 

I'm not as sure about Darth Maul but I do agree with the others. On the other hand, there's another theory that I like as well, which is that the phantom menace is the invasion of Naboo, because it's the immediate threat of the film, but it's really only a cover for more shadowy deeds happening behind the scenes.
