Star Wars Fact Files are Awesome!!

I am currently on holidays, visiting my parents in Darwin, the top end of Australia. Boy is it hot!

My mother, who works in a newsagent, has been collecting the Star Wars Fact Files for me, she had issues #19 to #33 waiting for me when I arrived.

The Star Wars Fact Files are awesome! The artwork is amazing! I love how they also heavily feature the Expanded Universe. I will now give a quick rundown of the new issues that I have.

I am sure to get a ton of information out of the Star Wars Fact Files for Timetales!

When are these coming to North America? I have to get my hands on them.

 

As I read the issues on my holiday, I will post some of the most interesting tidbits... and I assure you, there are some!

 

Unfortunately, I am not sure if they are going to be published in America... which is a shame, and a bad marketing decision, because there is the obvious demand for it. Hmmm... a case of lost sales.

So far, they are published in the UK and Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Malta.

 

I remember talk a few months ago around the boards that you can order them from the UK and they will ship to North America, but I think it might be expensive. I'm not all about that.

Edit: I just checked the Fact Files web-site and under the subscibe info it lists countries UK, Ireland, or Other, so I guess you can get them in the U.S. if you want.

 

A cut scene becomes canon

Under the entry Obi-Wan's Lightsaber in Issue #33 it states the following:

The Jedi are always learning and evolving, and thier lightsabers are often modified as they experience new places and challenges. This was certainly true of Obi-Wan Kenobi. He discovered that his lightsaber was prone to short out when immersed in water. This happened for example, when the young Jedi bailed out of a Trade Federation landing craft into a pond on Naboo.

Greatly scolded by Qui-Gon Jinn for his forgetfulness, Obi-Wan avowed to make appropriate modifications to his saber. When the opportunity arose to do so it was tinged with sadness. During the battle with Darth Maul that claimed Qui-Gon's life, the younger Jedi was knocked down a shaft. Hanging on for dear life, Obi-Wan could only watch as Maul casually kicked his lightsaber into the deep pit.

Obi-Wan's first lightsaber was lost forever. This gave the Jedi the opportunity to build another, similar weapon, but this time with a few modifications that meant it could operate in wet conditions. It was to prove an invaluable upgrade in future battles.

 

Hopefully we'll see that followed during the Battle of Kamino and won't have another shorting-out scene.

 

So far, they are published in the UK and Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Malta.

The Fact Files are also published in Germany, the Netherlands and Spain (and Japan, I think).

hehe?for once, we British get something first

and they are brilliant?I have a subscription (which eats heavily into my savings, but who cares ) and the only complaint I have is that all the binders are the same?it would be nice to see the binders numbered, or with different images on the front and back, especially since there are no images from episode 2?

I also worry that they're gonna do the whole thing again when episode 3 comes out to include that information, and then I'll have wasted my money?but ah well? it's still worth it?

The Black fleet crisis got 4 pages (an entire trilogy ) whereas the hunt for R2 and Threepio in ANH has more coverage at the moment, where are all the EU character profiles?

I get them through the mail and have all up to #33. On the inside front cover of the second binder is an updated galactic map which includes Kamino and Geonosis.

 

Wedge 88 - the Hoth Animals feature in issue #21 features Tauntauns and Wampa's.

The artwork is brand new, and honestly, is absolutely awesome!

When I get home from holidays, I will endeavour to scan you a picture from them.
