Two and a half years since the fateful battle on Endor, the Galactic Capital, Coruscant, has been seized by the New Republic, forcing the once feared Galactic Empire to retreat, scattering across the galaxy. However disoriented by the crushing blow from the fledgling New Republic, the Empire didn't leave without their parting gifts, namely the Krytos virus, which resulted in the death of many aliens on the planet. Also, Imperial Warlords are ever persistent in their crusade to retake what was once theirs.

It is now five months since that fateful day on Coruscant, and the Krytos virus has been cured, and mostly contained on Coruscant, thanks to the New Republic victory of the Bacta War. After the battle of Thyferra in that war, the Lusankya an Imperial Executor-class Star Dreadnaught that evaded New Republic capture after breaking free from under the surface of Coruscant during that fateful battle was reportedly destroyed by the New Republic.

The Empire is weakened, but not dead yet. They are plotting their revenge more determined than ever now, and the Warlord Zsinj, has shown proof of that, after successfully invading New Alderaan, forcing the New Republic to retreat, as a part of his campaign for Galactic Domination.

The Galaxy is as fragmented and weakened as ever, left wide open by the chaos of war. It is up to you to decide the fate of the galaxy, whether you decide to align yourself with the Empire, and regain its former glory, join the New Republic and send the Empire packing, or take the whole Galaxy for yourself.

Introduction

Welcome to Galaxy at War, a Fleet Strategy RPG originally developed in September of 2004 based off of the PC Game, Rebellion. In this RPG, the third version of the game since its inception, you will start off with a small fleet consisting of neutral-aligned ships, as well as a generally neutral planet. This game takes place in 7 ABY, a half a year after the capture of Coruscant by the New Republic. In this game, you may start off with a political leaning of your choice, either supporting the New Republic or the Galactic Empire, or none at all.

After you reach an alliance with whichever faction you support, if any, you may earn Faction Points, which may be used to purchase schematics for Faction Specific Starships and Starfighters, such as the Imperial Star Destroyers and TIE Fighters of the Empire, as well as the Mon Calamari Cruisers and various Snubfighters of the New Republic. If you go the neutral route, you will have to find different ways to get this technology, such as stealing it.

In Galaxy at War, unlike in the vein of traditional Fleet RPGs posted here in the past, you will only post gameplay and actions here. Anything that is behind the scenes, such as updating of information pertaining to your territory/fleet, will be posted in a separate thread in the [link=http://boards.theforce.net/board.asp?brd=10757]Role Playing Resource[/link] forum. In this thread, information such as ships, technologies and other gameplay mechanics will also be posted.

Notes

This RPG has no relation to the original GaW posted here, that one was a more traditional RPG, while this is a Fleet Battle RPG. We won't be changing the name of this one however, as we had this name 2 years before the other (albeit not on TF.N), in 2004 as opposed to 2006 or later, if I recall.

I guess not, even though three people, and even four people isn't all too much. I'll start it as soon as I get confirmation from everyone who signed up that they are still here and willing to play, as well as once I make the opening post.

We ARE still taking on new players.

In the time being, I am still working on getting that intro post done.

Name: Brandle Jem

Planet: Eriadu

Description:Brandle is of average height, muscular, particularly for his age. His hair is mostly black which is just beginning to turn white.

Personality:Well educated with a touch of arrogance. Tends to think sideways. Actions are motivated by a personal quest for glory for both himself and his world.
Race:Human

Rank(Whether you're a noble prince, or maybe a moff, or the cliche some random admiral that wants to rule the galaxy.): Would consider himself a Noble prince though technically he is an interim leader holding office until elections are held (there are no plans for any in the near future - oops).

Bio: Brandle is the son of a prominent planetary leader on Eriadu. He grew up on his family?s estate, spending countless hours at the hands of numerous tutors being steeped in history, military tactics, diplomacy, and economics with survey studies in engineering, medicine, geology, math, and psychology. His father dreamed that His sons would carry on the family?s tradition of military and political service to the people of Eriadu. Brandle and his younger brothers shared this desire, instilled by their father with his many tales of the glories of their family?s numberless years of service to their people. Brandle is the oldest son and was discovered early to be unusually brilliant. Combined with his the family?s influence from their economic empire, he moved quickly through the ranks of power. As a final favor to his retiring father, the then current head of Eriadu made Brandle his second. Brandle was personally tutored in matters of state under his father?s friend. Recently, with the down fall of the Great Galactic Empire, the people of Eriadu have responded with a mixture of sensation and panic. Some were overcome with excitement at the possibility of forming a new Galactic Community free of evil and tyranny; reforming connections with other worlds, encountering new cultures, and gaining new technologies. Another group was possessed by fears of apocalyptic forces of one-eyed pirates and tax evading smugglers coming down to make Eriadu a hovel of crime and villainy. Driven by fear and terror, they quickly militarized (who thought tax accountants would do such a thing?). Upon the head of state?s announcement of his intentions to begin expansions and to possibly realign with the new illegitimate government formed out of smugglers and warlords, they plotted and successfully executed an assassination. Brandle quickly took control of the government, tracked down and arrested the perpetrators. He plans to continue with the plans laid out by his predecessor and mentor. Eriadu will expand, and it will build an empire worthy of its people, it will become a military power just as influential as its economic presence.

Notice

I've decided to do my opening post, as well as the subsequent updates, a bit different than in most games. Instead of making an unnecessarily long story for you guys to follow, I'm gonna cut down to what really matters - the updates. With that said, on each day there is an update (Sunday and Saturday), I will be telling you of anything that happens during that day, and coming up with results for your own actions. However, in order to keep things fresh, new and exciting, I may choose random days of the week to have something happen on a random player controlled planet, because you never know what ships might arrive in system on any of your planets on any point in time.

With that said, here's the opening post, which is just a normal (for the way I'm doing it) update:

Korriban

Aside from the standard traffic, whether it be freighters coming in to deliver cargo to a customer on planet, or the random person who might be visiting, nothing of note really happened. You are free to go about your own business, whether that be send a part of your fleet to capture a new planet, begin research/production on a new ship, or send a diplomatic vessel to the nearest representative world of a faction of your choosing.

A fleet of pirates, consisting of the following ships, arrives in system:

17 CR90A Corvettes

A Lambda-class shuttle arrives in system, and contacts you with the following message:

"Greetings. We are a diplomatic vessel from the Galactic Empire, here to discuss a possible alliance, in hopes of re-establishing Eriadu, homeworld of the late great Governor Tarkin into the New Order."

OOC:: That's a little bland in post...but alright...The storytelling doesn't matter?

IC:: Bloody Fang - Bridge

The head sensor officer growls for a moment as he sees new information appear on his monitor several unknown ships. He motions for his crew chief who quickly makes her way over. After watching the screen for a moment she opens a hailing frequency to the unknown ships, "Unidentified ships this is the Bloody Fang, identify your selves immediately or we will hunt you down and destroy you."

The other Communication engineers on station quickly begin more intense scans on the unknown vessels that have entered system.(More Tactical info plz)

While doing this the Communications chief motions for one of the others under her command to report the situation to the Captain and recommend alerting the fleet.

(I know doesn't sound like a barabel, i'll fix it in later posts.)

OOC: Story might not be necessary, but I'll still do it;)

IC: D'arrte Kiraal
Warding Mists - Secondary Bridge, Captains chair

The hum of the ventilation systems dronned on in the background, the occassional hiss indicating a system cleanse occuring every few minutes. It was quite on the bridge, as quite as it ever got when things were progressing normally, the constant chatter adding another layer to the ambient noise as he stared past it all, focusing on the swirling mysts displayed on the viewscreen.

An aid came up to his side carrying a stack of folders, much less efficient than the datapads that most races used, but he prefered the feel of the flimsiplast within his grasp. Also, there was something lacking in the modern technology, it cost to much when it was reduced to tiny pieces to replace.

"D'arrte Kiraal, Gand has the daily folders you have waiting." making a slight gesture he placated the servent. A worthy servant that if not for the accompanying bridge crew would be able to call himself by his last name, but as was a slave should do such a thing infront of others. Ooryk had served him well since before he was able to go by a first name, and together they had risen so high that he no longer had to refer to himself by his own name.

"Thank you Ooryk, you work hard and well." Flipping through he noted most today were of what he had come to know as the usual fare. Requests and orders, recommendations on orders, the occassional form concerning intersolar passage, and as it had recently been added to his pervue the Research and Development requests. One from each department clammering for their project to receive the R&D resources to figure out their conundrum first.

Flipping through the requests silently he gave a slight roll to one foot, pantamime to a sigh, something he couldn't do in his lofty position of intrusted authority by Gand. The end results was a four way tie by different department heads, and it was up to him to sort which one deserved presedence. Taking his enscribing device he checked next to Spice-Mining Operations Research, before returning the stack of papers for Ooryk to resubmit to the waiting parties.

Eriadu

To the envoy ship: Eriadu would be pleased to discuss possible future relations with the New Order. However, we don?t have a diplomatic corps. So if you don?t mind landing, having some tea, and hanging out until the construction yard can produce some, we would be glad to have you.

Location: Eriadu, hidden interrogation room

?You know where they are! Tell me how to find them!?

?I will tell you nothing!?

?I order you to tell me.?

She spat at him.

A diminutive, young woman sat bolted to a chair inside a dimly lit concrete, boxlike cage. In front of her stood an older, muscular man, both hands griping the metal table between the two. Anger was etched on his face; defiance on hers. The room was buried deep away from the public eye. No one would ever know what happened here.

?You were part of the plot to assassinate Yenic. You assisted in murder. You are an insurrectionist. Now I order you, in the name of the people of Eridu, give me the names of your coconspirators.?

It was a mere week since the horrific assassination of the beloved Yenic. During that week, E-sec had been struggling to track down the ones responsible. All they had was the shooter, this short little chained woman. It was madding how, one by one, the best interrogators on the planet failed to crack her.

?In the name of the people of Eridu, I refuse. It is for them that I did what I did. He had no right to attempt to ally us with thieves and smugglers. It was the will of the people.?

?No it was NOT. He was an elected official. The PEOPLE choose him to decide matters of state. Who gave you the authority to murder a man in order to override the votes of millions of people? ?

?They didn?t understand. It was the right thing to do.?

?It was the right thing to appoint yourself god over the people?s will, to decide the fate of an entire planet because you know better? Because no one else on this entire world can be right unless they agree with you??

?I would have thought that you would be with us.?

?Tell me who the others are.?
Frustrating. The only thing standing between Brandle and bringing down the entire crew of insurrectionists was this stupid little woman.

?I refuse, you little pot-bellied paper pushing coward. You don?t have any do you? That is why you named your flagship. To be what you pretend to have.?

?Enough!?

He had it. He wanted those names and she would GIVE them. He reached over, grabbed an army knife, a long ugly blade, and brought it down on her hand. She screamed. She breathed. She screamed again. Blood poured unchecked from the two inch long gashed that went all the way through her hand and into the arm rest. Slowly her screaming faded into painful whimpers. She looked in to Brandle?s cold, merciless eyes.

?Please,? she begged, ?Get a medic. I will die of blood loss.?

He shrugged. ?At this point I am having a hard time caring.? His voice was emotionless. ?I want those names and
you have them. If you won?t give them to me, then you might as well be dead.?

?Then kill me,? she begged. ?Kill me and save us all this.?

?No.? He strode around the metal table and glared into to her barely conscious eyes. ?I will make you BREAK fool.? He grabbed her scrawny neck. ?I will have what I want.?

?There is nothing you can do, paper-pusher. I won?t talk.?

He tightened his grip. Hatred. He felt hatred for this blasted anarchist. She was a murderer and she was protecting murderers. Fine.

?Recognize her?? He slapped down a picture of a small girl onto the table. The anarchist?s face paled.

?No.? She lied.

?You know who she is.?

?No, I don?t.? She became to shake. For the first time fear crept into her features. ?She has nothing to do with this. NOTHING? Tears began to fall into her lap. ?I swear, she has NOTHING to do with this.? She tried saying more but little was intelligible through her sobbing.

?She is you daughter.? Brandle stated. His worlds were like the room around him: cold, brutal, fact.

?You know what I will do?? He

When the pirate vessels arrived in system, they had arrived in the outer edge of the system, and were moving towards Barab 1. They didn't respond to the hail from the Bloody Fang, but instead kept moving towards the planet from the outer edge of the system, aimed at the shipping lanes surrounding it from what it looked like. It would take them a few minutes to reach it, giving the Barabel fleet more than enough time to prepare.

The Huntmaster(Captain) of the Bloody Fangp quickly fell into step with the much older barabel, "Grand Huntmaster, we've detected 35 Capital shipz heading towards the planet, they are refusing to respond to our hails."

Komodo cracked his neck and hissed acknowledgement, "Prepare the fleet, have all ships closest to the pirates begin slowing operations. New prey has arrived, PREPARE THE BLOODY FANG FOR HUNTING!"

Brandle Jim sat sipping his wine in the dark. He liked the dark. It helped to hide his tears. He was not a monster, and killing that anarchist, while it was the right thing to do, it was still hard. Her eyes.

?Message coming in for you, Sir.? Brandle started. He had been lost in his thoughts. He reached over and pressed the intercom.

?Yes, what is it.?

?The Imperial delegation has arrived. They have agreed to wait until preparations are complete.?
Brandle leaned back again and sighed. ?Very good. I would normally begin negotiations immediately but this unexpected arrival has caught us off balance.?

?Yes, sir.?

?I did not expect them to extend such an invitation so quickly. Eriadu must be far more important to them than we thought.? He continued, more to himself than the secretary now. ?They must consider us very valuable indeed. These negotiations will go very well for us I think.?

?Uhhh?.Yes, sir.?

Brandle realized he had started babbling. ?Keep up the good work??.whoever you are. That will be all.?

?Thank you, sir? And then the room was silent again.

Valuable indeed. They sought us out so soon. Of course, the Empire needs all the help it can get right now. With all the defeats they have suffered at the hands of the Rebellion recently, the Eriadu fleet is suddenly a force to be reckoned with. Of course, Eriadu had been unimaginable lucky. Thanks to their position as a major economic powerhouse on the outer rim, the Empire very fortunately decided to place a mothball fleet nearby. With all the ships coming and going, the current infrastructure made the maintenance costs cheaper than other places, he supposed. Eriadu had one of the most impressive fleets around thanks to that little decision by Imperial bureaucrats. The ESS ISD Backbone was also part of that mothball prize.

Yes, Brandle decided. Things are going very well. Research was progressing well into underground mining. It will be nice to improve Eriadu?s infrastructure. The planet was well developed but a great amount of equipment needed to be replaced, like the acclamators. Good equipment, just old. After that will be the tech need to set up the negotiations. An alliance with the Empire could prove very empowering. Yes.

Brandle took another sip of his wine in the dark. Her eyes.

?Moff Vask, we?ve received a message from the Ascension sir.?
With a sigh Dernan turned away from the viewport and the spectacular view of Geonosis beyond to face the bridge of his Venator class Star Destroyer Phoenix. The young Lieutenant presented a datapad to him and continued, ?Captain Jamith reports that Ascension and her taskforce are ready for deployment on your order.?
?Very good Lieutenant. Send the order to break orbit. Remind Captain Jamith that this journey is recon only. I want him to bring all my ships back from the Vergesso Asteroids.?
?Yes sir.?
?That?ll be all lieutenant, dismissed.?
As the officer left to carry out his orders Dernan skimmed through some of the endless reports and reviews on his datapad.
It seemed that the natives had managed to get one of the droid factories back into working order. That wouldn?t be enough to support the kind of infrastructure he intended to create but it would have to do for now.
Another report, from R&D this time, indicated that his research teams were trying to further their understanding of hyperspace and developing better methods of calculation safe hyperspace routes over longer distances.
He read a few more reports before returning to the viewport to gaze down on the dusty world below. Geonosis was only the beginning.

Currently performing a flyby of a major city in atmosphere was a tricky operation, but one that he relished as it brought the ship and crew to a little droning hum of activity. They were practicing air to ground bombardment, if an enemy ever gained a scrabble hold of the ground they would have to perform a cleansing action. It also preparred them if they had to do so elsewhere.

Elsewhere was such an interesting topic these days, the nest aboard ship nearly hummed in queiter tones about it. Most of the opinion that although most worlds did not possess their worlds qualities they still could use them, much like humans, herglics, and other species they had known of had their small fiefdoms in the Inner Rim and Core. So why not them in the Outer Rim? Why should they contain themselves to the situation of a single system? A single world?

So with this humming he had sent the orders to begin these drills for different combat situations to be performed during the lulls of the fleet acting as intermediories between traveling ships of the outer galaxy and the world below. Also that the R&D should set it's next task to that of Handheld Blasters, and those things that followed after.

Taking the statistics displayed on his console he chittered with a seething air at the crew, "This will not do for Gand, we must be quicker, more accurate, and coordinated between turrets. Resume start positions and do it again! Computer iniate alternate scenario ST-73 in thirty minutes."

Barab 1

As the IR-3Fs moved in to intercept them, the Pirate Fleet delegated seven of their CR90A Corvettes to take them out. However, this proved to be a costly move on their part, as when the IR-3Fs moved behind them, two of them had their engines disabled, one was destroyed, while the rest had their shields reduced to around half. However, not without doing some damage of their own - one of the IR-3Fs had its shields disabled, while the rest had taken some marginal shield damage.

After the Barabel Fleet had made their presence known with that to the Pirates, they sent ten more CR90A Corvettes to deal with the Barabel Corvettes that were escorting their Marauders and Nebulon-Bs. For this, there was one CR90A destroyed on both sides, and five of the Pirate Corvettes had been reduced to around 25% shields, and all other Barabel Corvettes were reduced to around 50% shields.

They then launched their fighters from their Marauder Corvettes and Nebulon-B Frigates, two Y-Wing squadrons moving in to supplement the Corvettes that were dealing with the IR-3Fs (though they won't do anything til next turn), while the other two, as well as the Z-95 squadrons stood behind in a defensive screen around the ships they launched from, which remained on standby for now.

Meanwhile, the ships that left gyrosync in the Barabel fleet have reached the rear of the portion of the fleet that moved in to engage the Pirates, and are within firing range.

The intercept force

The gunboats tailing behind the Capital ships come out from behind and quickly gain firing solutions on enemy fighters screening the fleet and fire missiles. While 2 squadrons of Z-95s move to attack the y-wings harrasing the IR-3Fs.

The Marauders open fire with their turbolasers on the enemy corvettes, The nebulon-bs fire their turbolasers at the enemy marauders while targeting fighters with their laser cannons. The IR-3Fs Make another pass through the enemy ships dedicating the two turrets to firing defensivly while the cannons fire on other capital ships. The CR-90s pour weapons fire into the Enemy marauders.

he says returning his attention to the display.

A moment later the captain turns to face Komodo, "We are in range Huntmaster!"

"Good Launch fighters have them screen for the enemy fighters, and have our bombers prepare for strafing runs. All forward capital ships Fire a full salvo on this targets."

OOC: Sorry I wasn't able to update on time this week, hopefully it won't happen too much any more.

Barab 1

The Barabel Gunboats coming out from behind their respective fleet proved to be too much for the Pirate Fighters, causing chaos and disarray in their formations, and destroying a good portion of their screen. However, the Pirate Fighters did outnumber the Gunboats in the Intercept Force, and they used this to their advantage, keeping the numbers fairly even. Though since the Pirates did have more fighters to begin with, it was expected that if the fighting went on longer, the Pirates would quickly come to realize that their fighters were running out.

When the Barabel Z-95s moved to intercept the Pirate Y-Wings that launched to harass the IR-3Fs, they were put in a tricky situation - put forth a suicidal attempt to continue harassing the IR-3Fs, or switch over to defend against the Z-95s, which could also prove suicidal. So, one squadron chose to continue to harass the IR-3Fs, while another chose to attempt to defend against the Z-95s. It proved to be a double edged sword. While they did manage to somewhat trick the Barabel Z-95s into thinking they were still committing to just assaulting the IR-3Fs at first, taking out several Z-95s in surprise attacks, the Barabel Z-95s were quick to catch on to their tactics. They managed to only lose half a squadron, and take out half of each Y-Wing Squadron.

As the Barabel Marauders fired turbolasers on the pirate corvettes, seven more of them were destroyed, the ones with disabled engines and shields, and the ones that previously had around 25% shield capacity. Furthermore, four more, the other ones that sustained damage previously, were reduced to around 25% capacity.

As the Pirate Marauders were mobilized to supplement their corvettes, they were caught by surprise by the Nebulon-Bs and then the Barabel CR-90s, and were already weakened substantially by the time they got to the duty they were sent to do. They lost two of them, and were forced to split off to different tasks. Then several more Pirate Fighters were hit by the Barabel Nebulon-Bs, reducing their numbers even more to less than what the Barabel Intercept Force was standing at.

This forced the Pirate Nebulon-Bs to mimick the same move as the Barabel ones did, focusing laser cannons on the Barabel Fighters, and turbolasers on the Barabel CR-90s. However, by the time they had fired only a few shots off, the IR-3Fs flew by, doing severe damage to their shields.

However, once the main fleet was spotted by the already wearied pirate force, they hailed the Barabels with the following message, "Ack! We surrender, I repeat, we surrender!"

He leans forward on his staff watching the the officers work. Out side the ship ISD, several ships of the fleet were slowing and locking weapons on the supposed pirates while keeping distance in case of sabotage and foul play. While Barabel Fighters formed up into squadrons screening the capital ships.

"Surrendering vessels Prepare to be boarded. If there is any foul play you and your ships will be destroyed." A minute or so after his message was sent several boarding shuttles were launched from the ISD and began to cautiously head toward the pirate ships. "Keep an extra eye on those pirates i want to know of something funny before it happens understood?"

Several nods were his only response from the sensor crews.

Komodo gestured to for the Captain to send several hunter parties over to the surrendering ships.

Why had such a large pirate force attacked this planet? Barabel is by no means as industrious as other sectors near by, and our ferocity is known to the entire galaxy. This is strange, perhaps some information needs to be gathered about this.
