South East Star Wars Grand Florida Alliance

For those who have not heard, the SWGFA was formed to bring together all Star Wars clubs in the state of Florida.

We have finally decided on a date and time for our May Event. We will be joining SWGFA member Rich at his home in Port Saint Lucie on Sunday, May 17th at 1:00pm. Stay tuned for more details on this as the date approaches. I?d really like to see a nice showing of members for this as Rich tries to get a local club going in his area. What better way to do this than to show up and support his efforts. This announcement gives everyone more than a month to plan ahead for the event, so let?s make it happen!

Just a quick reminder, the SWGFA will be meeting at the FX Show in Orlando on April 18th, so make plans to join us for a day of fun and relaxation. Ray Park (Darth Maul) will be in attendance as well as Leonard Nimoy and many others. Hope to see you there!

Good evening everyone!

Just a quick reminder about our May event in Port Saint Lucie, FL. We will be meeting at the home of SWGFA member Rich. He has been kind enough to open up his home for us on Sunday, May 17th. If you are planning on attending, please PM me back and I will send you the physical address.

I will be leaving Tampa at 9:00am that morning and picking up any and all who will be joining us from Orlando. I?ll be in a large van with plenty of room. If you would like to ride out there us, please RSVP so I know exactly how many people I?ll be picking up and?so I can let Rich know how many to expect. Our target arrival time is 1:00pm. Also, please feel free to bring your collectibles to show off. Rich has told me that he has room for members to set up pieces and put them on display for the afternoon. This is encouraged! One of the coolest things we do is our show and tell getting to see some amazing pieces along the way.

 

Thank you to everyone that made it out yesterday to make this event such a huge success.

A big thanks to Rich and his wife for opening up their home to us, feeding us and hosting the event AND to the San Diego Star Wars Society for donating pieces of the Sarlacc Pit and Sail Barge as prizes for the trivia!

The next SWGFA event has been announced! We will be meeting in Orlando on Saturday, August 8th at 5:30pm at the home of SWGFA Member Sharon. A huge thank you to Sharon for opening up her home to us! We will be doing this potluck style to alleviate the burden of one person having to provide food for everyone. As always, everyone is encouraged to bring something to show off be it your newest acquisition, your most prized possession or simply something you think others might enjoy seeing. This is your 44 day notice! Please mark your calendars and make plans to join us for this special event.

The SWGFA end-of-the-year event date has been set! Join us on Saturday, November 21st starting at 5:00pm at the home of Will & Alex Eveland in Saint Petersburg. (Directions will be posted soon)

For those attending from the east coast and middle of the state, car pooling is a great idea to save on fuel costs. I've already heard from three people interested in car pooling from the Orlando area, so if this is something you are interested in doing, please let me know. If need be, I can also drive members from the Tampa area that afternoon as well.

This is very important: If you are planning on attending, please let me know. I need to get a head count so we know how many to expect. We'll be doing this pot luck style again just like the last event. That seemed to work very well. If you are coming, please let me know what you'll be bringing so I can let others know what we might still need when they ask. You can also discuss what you'll be bringing here in this thread.

Suggested Needs:

Paper plates
Plastic silverware
Plastic cups
Ice
Drinks (Water, soda, juice, etc.)
Snacks (Chips, pretzels, dip, cookies, etc.)
Food (pizza, soup, pasta, hamburgers, hot dogs, tacos, chicken tenders, wings, etc.)
Desert (Ice cream, cake, pie, popsicles, etc.)

Again, I'd love to see as many as possible attend, so if you have an issue getting there, please let me know and we'll figure something out. Let's sign off on 2009 with a bang!

 

We had a great turn out with 22 people this past Saturday night! Plenty of good food and tons of fun with the Trivia Challenge. Thanks to everyone that made it out to join us and a huge thanks to Alex & Will Eveland for hosting this event.

The first event of 2010 has been announced!

Location:

The SWGFA will be meeting at a new comic book shop that just opened up called Heroes Landing. Our huge thanks to the owner, Todd Merrick, for opening up his store to us! The physical address for the shop is 12348 Roper Blvd. Clermont, FL 34711. If you have questions about directions, please call the store at 352-242-XMEN (9636).

Day and time:

We'll be meeting on Saturday, January 16th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm.

Food & Drinks:

This will be a potluck style event where everyone brings some type of food to share. Drinks will be available for purchase at the store which includes Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Dr Pepper, Aquafina Water, Orange and Grape Crush, and other similar drinks. They also sell lots of novelty energy drinks like Ghostbusters, Futurama Slurm and more.

What to bring:

? Bring yourself for starters. We want you to come and enjoy yourself with all the other Star Wars fans out there. Bring a friend too!
? Feel free to bring items to buy/sell/trade. There will be a limited amount of space for display and swapping collectibles.
? Some type of food to share with everyone! (not required for attendance)

501st Legion:

I'm very pleased to announce that the 501st Legion will be in attendance! Be sure to bring your camera!

Costumes:

Everyone is encouraged to come in costume! If you have something you've been working on and you need help, bring it. You never know who might be around that could give you some pointers or even assist you with the construction of your costume.

MegaCon:

A large group of members will be attending Megacon in March as it already has a large Star Wars presence lined up. We'll be discussing our plans for this show as well as our April event.

What a fantastic night we had this past Saturday in Clermont at the Heroes Landing Comic Shop. Total number of attendees: 60! This was by far our largest event ever, so we are very excited. For those interested in viewing photos of the event, check out our Facebook page.
