I liked it a lot. My favorite Golden book, by far.

My copy came in at the local Waterstones so I picked it up after lunch. Next on the reading list!

Yes, I know DD wasn't popular around these parts. Inferno Squad and Dark Disciple are very different books, but in my view both are good (I enjoyed Inferno much more for various reasons).

At the end of the day personal preferences are just that, though.

I'll say this: Inferno Squad had me hooked from about the first page and a half.

Very excited to start this book tonight! I've been in an OT/Rogue One mood, so this book should fit perfectly. :D

One issue I have with the concept:

It's been established high latent Force sensitivity basically acts as an ability multiplier across the board. If Admiral Versio is selecting the best people from the Imperial military, logically they're going to be people with high potential. Yet, I don't see any evidence that's the case.

Maybe my local Waterstones released it early? I think I had that happen before, with the Revan novel.

I miss jokes a lot. I thought you were being serious about it officially coming out in the US first.

But I used a Father Ted image and everything!

OK, post 2 was a Judge Dredd riff that was probably more obscure.

(Never mind the amount of books I've got early over the years!)

I've not read many Judge Dredd comics - a few, but not a lot. I guessed the second half of the statement was not serious, but not the first.

    Fair enough.

Getting back on track - All this comes down to for me is I don't want to pay more than £13 for a SW hardback, there's no Watersones close by, so that leaves... The Empire. (Amazon)

(Well, sort of Wordery doing a 10% on a book they already had down to £14.00)

Yeah, but until now I wasn't aware they were trying to match Amazon - every time I looked at them before books were full price.

So, will have to give 'em a look.

Anyway. I want to talk about a thing. Not a plot point, I want to let people read first, but something minor/lore-related about the Empire that struck me.

Early on, we learn that the Empire arrested the entire Imperial Senate and took them to a corrections facility to determine whether any of them had Rebel sympathies. Those who did, the Empire hoped to convince back to the right side.

That's..... a huge departure from Legends and kind of insane. But the destruction of the Death Star, in the eyes of the characters, gave me a real 9/11 vibe and I almost suspect that a lot of the Imperial populace, certainly the military, might have seen this drastic step as actually a rather necessary one.

Conversely though, like Alderaan, I can also see it majorly backfiring. But then we learn on the first full page that Iden is pretty okay with what happened to Alderaan.

Both of these things are shocking and uncomfortable. But they're also... good? At least in the sense that they make perfect IU sense with what we know about the canon Empire.
