Latest evidence of Star Wars pervasiveness in the real world:

Attended Opening Ceremonies for my son's soccer league this morning. The kids of each team decide on their group's name. My son's is the Mighty Dragons, but I saw these two names:

    The Lightsabers and The Jedi.

I'm sure the Force will be with them when they play!

I noted its pervasiveness during the History Channels several week show about the Revolutionary War. They actually described something as being like the Empire and the Death Star as a large show of force.

I've been told that there are physical pieces of SW out in Death Valley. Sorry, but I'm trying to make my question fit into this thread.

Can somebody please direct me to where I can find information, directions and such on the sight where the Sarlacc and Jabba's Sail Barge scene were filmed in Death Valley? Winter is coming and I want to try to plan a trip out there! Anybody else interested?

San Diego FF has made that trip a few times. You might want to PM their president, and ask him who would have that info.

JF, some of us have done the DV trip. I'd love for the group to do that sometime, but it does involve a bit of work.

The other stuff you're taking about wasn't filmed in DV, it was filmed in the Buttercup area of Imperial County, not far from Yuma. That's where the SD FF has gone to, a couple times. I understand there are still parts of the set that can be found if you know where to look.

Since I'd love to have an actual piece of something, looks like Buttercup would be the place to go. Maybe the IEFF can make a winter trip (and anybody else interested). I PM'd the SDFF prez for info.

    JF77,
You COULD take a piece of the Sail Barge set, but then Jabba's bounty hunters would be after you!

I'm reading the times and there's an editorial about revitalizing LAX to make it more welcome to visitors. Toward the end there's a piece about the people who dress up in front of the Chinese theater:

"...Or teams of Marilyn Monroe and Darth Vader look-alikes hired to give lost travelers directions to right gates..."

There are about a million Star Wars references in my podcast MuggleCast. It's funny.

    Stupid OPPM rule.

May I submit the following reference from page 41 of a research report (dated January, 2005) entitled "Children's Ministry in Northern Ireland," presented to the Board of Education of the Church of Ireland:

"It has been said that in relating to and integrating children into the faith community, the church's role is not to 'fill buckets' but to seek to 'light fires' in a model of ministry that owes more to the Jedi apprenticeship of Yoda in 'Star Wars' than to the instructional models familiar from the caricatures of traditional public school masters."

    SW is, indeed, everywhere.

I'm glad that there is so much enthusiasm for our beloved Star Wars. Not only is MuggleCast referencing it, but PotterCast is also.

In one of Jay and Jack's ramblecasts, they did a "vs" with their audience, ANH vs ESB vs ROTJ. I think ESB won. I have a hard time trying to pick between ANH and ESB. While ESB was a better movie, ANH started it all and if not for ANH we would not have any of the following movies.

    That's cool!

Now when I see Han mentioned as a clue in the daily Sudoku, THEN, I'll be really impressed! [face_laugh]

The other night I was watching Venture Brothers on adult swim on cartoon network and they had Lando's Millenium Falcon co-pilot from ROTJ in the plot. Super hillarious, but the cartoon is pretty PG-13 to R, ye be warned!

    Pretty!

South Park repeat: Lord of the Rings/ Porn tape mix up. The kids had a LOTR style "council" to decide what to do. One of the kids had a storm trooper mask on instead of a middle earth costume.

Supernatural last week: Dean, about a guy who used mind control on him, "He totally Obi-Wanned me."
The guy, after using mind control to helpSam & Dean get into confidential adoption files, "We are not the droids you're looking for."

KROQ this morning talking about the Flavor of Love compared to a new show starring one of the nastiest girls, New York,"
"I don't know if I'll watch it [the new show]. Flav's likable, but, I don't know, it's like the difference between Han Solo & Darth Vader."

(Personally I think a sitcom or a reality show, like the Osbornes or Gene Simmons Family Jewels, starring Darth Vader would be funnier.)

Nope, I don't decorate like that. Folks wouldn't have understood LOL. I have a few things up here and there, but that's it.
