The saving grace with Kemp is he tends to be quite textually dense. By which I mean, you get more words on each page, with longer paragraphs, and less half-lines of crappy half-dialogue.

    "Hi!"
    "Hi!" Vestara said.
"I love you, babe!" Ben said.
"I love you too!" Vestara replied.

Great, four lines. But just 16 words.

Darth Vader launched out of the window into the void of space, pulling his lightsaber from his belt as he flew toward Starkiller, whom he promptly speared through the midsection, saving the world from anymore clones and video games.

    One line. Lots more words.

Which is why page count isn't that helpful, as it depends much more on the author's style. You can write a crapload of spam and make the book 500 pages and still end up with less in total.

Weird that I have never seen this discussion with movies. "Just 80 minutes? That's not worth the ticket price."

It should have been 900 pages, definitely not going to buy it now.

Zorrixor is right. If anyone is familiar with the Green Rider series then you know that Blackveil and Mirror Sight while long - 673 and 785 pages respectfully - are mostly mindless fluff and an overly long pointless story that could have been written in 400 pages or less.

Length isn't really the issue. It's how you read content and style. Long stories aren't inherently bad nor short ones.

To me, the issue isn't the page count but the price attached to that page count. If this book is only 224 something pages I wouldn't want to pay the same price I paid for A New Dawn which was 367 pages not including the excerpt from Tarkin.

I just read every single post in this thread. .-.
Anyway, wanted to say despite the page count, this is still probably the book I am looking second most forward to of the next four coming out, the first being the Ventress/Vos one. I read Plaguies but was never really a fan of the novel, and with Tarkin his character seems more boring then the others in this line up. The Luke oe may be good. This one, however, looks absolutely wonderful. I cannot wait to get my hands on this. :D

Are Blu Rays that expensive? Sadly, I still haven't made the jump.

More like a DVD/Blu-ray/Digital Copy combo. But even those aren't that pricey, unless maybe it's a new release.

224? Disney probably just looked at what Kemp was writing and told him to cut half of it.

**** it, this is why library's exist.

Length doesn't denote quality but it does affect expectations. Even the shortest SW novels are of a certain length, and this is rather below that average. It's certainly worthy of comment, perhaps even taking pause.

There would be a lot fewer complaints if it were a short paperback. Charging a hardcover price is unreasonable.

GW's even worse, when it comes to limited edition novellas - anything up to £30 for maybe 200 pages.

    But then, that's GW.

Might Vader's embracing of his cyborg form have something to do with him cutting Luke's hand off?

Also, I recall that everyone feared Vader in the Bantam era. I'm glad to see a return to that.

If we get a first name for Palpatine, surely we can also get a canonical explanation for his face?
