    They're sore!

I'm really hoping I can make it tonight, if only for a little while. Our heater went out this morning, so I have to look into fixing that (or bribing my neighbor tonight to do it). And, to make matters worse, Rachel woke up with a fever and a cough. So, it's apparently going to be one friggin thing after another for me this week.

Looks like I'm going to get to drop by from about 5 to 6 pm. Then I got to head home and try to do something to our heater. It's going to be cold tonight!

Won't have the Battleship game with me, unfortunately. I didn't have time to pack anything for tonight before I ran off to work.

    OH MY GOD!

Well, we had a fun time at Triple Play, playing various video games, trivial pursuit, monopoly, and some game with miniatures ;) .
We met a few new people, and some interested folks stopped by and stared at us, but we didn't get them interested long enough to stay.

However, we all agreed that waiting until January was too long to wait to do it again, so an executive decision was made without calling Tim (as he said we should do from time to time), and while every two weeks may be too often to do this on a regular basis, we will be having a repeat in two weeks -
    <FANFARE>
    Semi-official SMT X-Mas party/Gaming Night at Triple Play - Wed. Dec. 15th from 5-9pm.

    </FANFARE>

Semi-official because, knowing a lot of members' preference for alcoholic beverages, and Kevin only serving soft drinks, and it being in the middle of the week - we know not everyone can make it. But since getting people together from Thanksgiving to New Year's is a pain, we figured this was as good as we were going to get. Kevin doesn't mind if you bring some food. Gina is planning on making chili (this got cheers from all in attendance).

So, we hope as many people as possible can make it for an evening of fun and games.

Now for the real OMG part. Not content in splitting up after Kevin had to close, and quite hungry, Gina and I joined Jacob and Lin at the IHOP for a bite to eat and to help Jacob with a school project. (OK, Lin helped with PhotoShop; we watched.)

The good - we gave out an SMT pen to our waiter and told him about gaing night.

The could be good/could be bad - after staying in IHOP from ~9:30 - ~11:00, we then congregated in front of the restaurant talking for almost two more hours. This was good because the four of us had a great conversation, but bad because we all had to be up early in the morning and Jacob especially had a lot of homework to do (just ask "Z Sexy Wife" who kept calling him to tell him that). And it led the way for...

The bad - slightly after midnight, a tall older man and a slightly short teenage boy comes out. At first I thought it was the manager and a waiter going to ask us to stop loitering because we were scaring the customers. He asks if we had picked on of these up that they were giving out, and hands Gina and I (and Jacob) a small booklet. Still thinking "Manager" I think "holiday coupons - ooh free rooty-tooty!" and take the booklet. And thats when I realize it's a pamphlet about God. What follows was one of the most excruciating encounters with pushy evangelicals I have ever been a part of (or even witness to) as we told them we weren't interested, we weren't from around here, we were having a private conversation, we're Catholic, etc. Usually when I tell people any one of these, they will get the hint and move along. Not these guys. The older one kept telling us we had to follow God's laws and the younger one kept asking us if we had kept the commandments. They finally left, but it was after ebing civil to them had gone out the window. What are they thinking? Seriously? After coming up to me in the IHOP parking lot and acting like a total jerk that I'm going to say, "Wow, now there's a church I want to go to!"?????

So, we eventually let Jacob go home, and then we talked to Lin for another 20 minutes or so, and we finally let him go home. Frost had already formed on our cars. But with absolutely no traffic we made great time driving home!

    Seee what you missed, Tim?

    -Joe

I thought it was great. It was not quite the turnout I expected. Kevin had heard a lot of customer say they were coming--in particular a few more SW gamers who didn't end up showing.
But I think fun was had by all and we are planning on having the next gaming night in two weeks on Wednesday, December 15th.
Glad you could come, Tim. Next time we should play Battlefront together. :D

Talking in a parking lot for two hours after an event...

Yep, sounds like one of our normal get-togethers! Sorry I missed the fun, but the promise of a cold, heatless night was enough to get me home and fix my heater. (Yep. Did it myself like a big boy. Looks like I can finally start eating at the grown-up table.) Not sorry I missed the evangelists, though. I've discovered that quoting Harry Potter books and Judas Priest songs doesn't drive the really fervent ones away as it should.

Bravo on scheduling the next event, y'all! I'm hoping Traci's work schedule will allow us to be there.

Maybe if I make you a nice magic wand and you use the Cruciatus curse it would work better. ;)

    If only.

    Avada...

Damn old age. I can't remember the rest. No wonder I was expelled from Hogwart's. Never mind. I was kicked out for trying to start a fifth house.....

Yeah, great time last night- and this morning didn't come any earlier than it normally does for me!

I'll go ahead and make up a new gaming night ad.

What is funny about last night is that I ended up spending more time with SMTers than at TimmyCon!

Yeah- funny how that turned out!

Don't forget folks- Dec. 15 at Triple Play for the next gaming night and quasi-Christmas party. Jacob's got enough miniatures for everybody to play! :)

And NOW I have even more!!! Clone Strike, the new set of Star Wars Miniatures, came out today and I was at Triple Play at ten when they opened this morning to get the starter and boosters I preordered! :D They are awesome. The clones don't seem to be as good a sculpt as the stormies, but otherwise it is an incredible set. I got a good start on my clone and droid armies along with almost all the Fringe (Those are the bounty hunters and such--there are only 12 fringe in this set, as opposed to 20 in the last set). I also got a good portion of the jedi--there are a lot of lightsabers in this set. Unfortunately, most of them come crooked.
I got the two figures I wanted most in this set and the rare I wanted least. Quinlan Vos, Assaj Ventress and Zam Wessel, respectively. That's the biggest thing I don't like about this set. I wanted it to be current clone wars characters, but they made it Episodes I, II and EU. So it has dead people in it. Jango, Zam and Maul. :?
The two that I don't have that I am most looking forward to getting--probably Aayla Secura and Yoda. Dooku and the aerial clone trooper will be cool too!

Kevin told me that one of his regular customers who is into the minis came in on Thursday night and was like, "Where is everybody!?!" Poor guy. His name is Daniel. Hopefully he will be at the next one.

i stopped by 3X on Friday and dropped off a couple MSCA comics and Bushi Tales magnets for Kevin. That guy might have been in there. He and Kevin were talking while I was looking at HeroClix. He mentioned you already had a want-list!

I saw the clone-troopers, gotta have them! I really liked the ARC one. Very nice...

As far as crooked lightsabers, you may try a hair dryer to heat up the plastic, then straighten them out. I know KevinW has used boiling water to straighten out his Muppet action figures' legs- especially Kermit.

Yeah, I am going to try a hairdryer and/or boiling water. I tried hot water from the tap, and it worked for a few minutes, and then they went limp again. They need some viagra.

I wonder if when you heated them up and then put them in something like a coffee stir/straw if that would help..?

They may be made out of a plastic that has 'memory' and may not stay straight.

    Thanks for the update, Tim!

    Let's try this

    Darth Kevin

I think it might be the length of the URL playing havoc with TFN's programming, especially all those % signs.
FYI - I copied the URL (and removed the extra space), then went to www.tinyurl.com and created a shorter link.
Can't insert it as an image, but hey, whaddya want?
