You know how some sites have a "Star Wars name generator", where you put in your name, mother's maiden name, and city of birth, and you get this crummy, unorigional name.

    EX:
    My name: Amanda Crosson
    Mother's Maiden name: LaVere
    City of birth: Vallejo
    Star Wars name: CroAm LaVal

I mean please....that is so dumb. I've made up many of my own Star Wars characters, and their names, but I was wondering if anyone could formulate a new way to make up Star Wars names....?

Why not simply insert apostrophes and mold the name to your liking?

    IMO, Cro'Am Laval isn't that bad. [face_mischief] ;)

Ken Kenobi- And you have a nice day ;)

*blushes and hopes my generator isn't on your list*

I would gladly write a script to make a better one. What criteria would you hold for making a good generator? Mine uses your first name, last name, favorite food and hometown; which generates Uhltr Chind for me. Not very good either!

I never liked those name generators. There still are regular-sounding names like Dash Rendar, Luke Skywalker, and Ben Kenobi. A lot of characters names are not incoherent rows of constanants separated by apostrophes and hyphens.

I used one of these once and didn't care for it. I forgot what all the criteria it was using was, but it came up with "Tra Tracker" for me, which is asinine 'cause all that is is the first three letters of my name and the type of car I drive. [face_plain]

CroAm LaVal sounds like a great name to me. But I agree it discounts the regular names.

Okay, I spent all night on this so I hope it works out well for y'all ;)

I typed in a bunch of SW names from both the movies and from the Expanded Universe. I sorted by Male, Female and Last names. I then wrote a script that will randomly choose you a male or female name.

    Try it out here:

    Thanks, Padme. :)
    I got Mara Tambor...
Did it again and I got Lexi Tarkin.
But why does it always give you a different name everytime?

However, I'm a bit scared...I got Anakin Solo the first time... :(

    No joke... [face_plain]

The second time I got Ki-Adi Kenobi. [face_laugh]

The worst and best Jedi expressed in one name...how ironic.. [face_laugh] :p

I dared to use padme's name generator again. [face_mischief] ;)

Here is a list of some of the better ones I got:

Wicket Palpatine: Perhaps that is his real first name, no? [face_mischief]
Jek Porkins: The real deal, to a real hero ;)
Oppo Crumb: Two hilarious characters in one- how great is that?! :D
Joh Lah: A bit ironic, eh? :p
Even Piett: Sounds familiar- was he in ANH? ?[face_plain]
Ody Organa: I think I saw this guy on a sitcom before... [face_mischief]
Passel Nass: Could be mistaken with "passing gas"- coincidence? I think not... [face_plain]
Even Maul: Yes, Even Maul can get sliced in half by Obi-Wan... [face_mischief] :p
Nom Snitkin: Yes, I remember now..."Welcome to the Ody Organa and Nom Snitkin hour!" :D
Wuher Organa: From scum to royalty in 2 seconds flat.. ;)
Ask Moore: Ask more? What? ?[face_plain] [face_laugh]
Crix Chirpa: The hillbilly way of saying "Crickits Chirping"... :p
Kitster Fisto: Kit's little brother.. :p
    Sly Windu:
    Luke Vader:

And finally, the best two of them all...

    Lando McCool
    Sly Calrissian

Ken Kenobi- And you have a nice day ;)

You now, using the name generator mentioned at the first, I was WooSh HaPay before I was married, ThoSh HaPay after. I like the way Thosh sounds, but not how it's spelled. I changed the spelling to Tahsh so it looks how it sounds, and behold! A Jedi Knight in my story!

My husband enged out being ThoJa OlPro. I altered it to be Tao-Jay Olmpro, and behold! A Jedi Council Member in said story!

So, with a little tweaking, it's not that bad.

Not that I think Ryoo Veda is too bad. I like that! Ask Whitesun is funny, though. Rather like my character name, Early Rocie.

I played with your name generator a few times Padme1967. It is interesting.

I got Dode Beedo, Carlist Crumb, Teemto Madine and Ody Durron.

The best name generated was Ark Mandrill.

padme1967... the generator is a tad too random, but I like it. [face_laugh]

    My favourite names were:

    Wat Skidder
Cliegg Med-Beg which reads to me as Cliegg's Bad Leg
    Max Poof Maximum Poof Power!

    Nice Stuff!

Those names are great. And to answer your question, it is totally random. I typed in just about every character name from sw.com and a few EU characters I have liked from the books. I have seen more complicated generators for LOTR but not sure I am up to the task of programming that.

    :)
