The Gravity Well Generators don't create actual gravity, just a "Mass Shadow" that trips hyperspace computers into thinking there is a massive object in the way and thus pulling them out of hyperspace to prevent a collision.

It wouldn't "pull" anything from anywhere sitting on a planet's surface.

Marvel SW did have a "wrecker" group on a planet, that specialised in bringing ships down out of the sky. Theirs wasn't quite strong enough to pull down a battlecruiser though:

    Theirs was a "sonic jammer"

Completely different device using completely different physics to wreck ships. I was specifically talking about the Interdictor on the surface someone suggested to have ships "pulled out of the sky".

I think there was a moment where it's looking like a tractor beam - the battlecruiser straining madly at it.

While EU Interdictors don't create "real" gravity - I could see somebody wanting to simplify things and turning the interdiction field and the tractor beam into two manifestations of the same artificial gravity technology.

One of the books even has a character comment on how a ship with enough tractor beams could be capable of bringing ships out of hyperspace - possibly as a nod to Interdictors.

Tractor beams have to be aimed at a target. The beauty of Interdictors, there is no "target" just victims. ;)

In TTT, Interdictors create cone-shaped fields - getting to the edge of the cone and jumping out, is the preferred counter.

Very large cone, and difficult to escape from when being chased down by a squadron of ties etc as another ship usually tries to get the ship with a tractor beam. ;)

    I presume that they have been erased from the EU now so there's nothing stopping them using this idea in the movie. But they won't because;

    a, It's stupid.

b, The ships look really stupid.

And Interdictors are used in the Tarkin novel as well.

So we have this guy from Star Wars Droids.

    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gir_Kybo_Ren-Cha

We have Kylo Ren as seen in the trailer for TFA.

We have a report from MSW about concept art for pirates where one was described as brooding, wearing a cloak with the hood up, and wielding a lightsaber.

    http://makingstarwars.net/2014/11/concepts-star-wars-force-awakens-six-pirates/

There was also the Pirates Cove set which could be Greenham Common or might be also be somewhere else.

So is Kylo Ren a pirate? Is he posing as a pirate? Has the Empire hired a bunch of pirates for a specific task? Are the pirates good and don't know that one of them might be more treacherous?
