I was just reading the entertainment news and I noticed half way down the page they are asking "Is Star Wars the greatest sci fi movie of all time?"

    http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/default.stm

Now I've put this in the classic trilogy forum because they didn't use a plural on "films" and when one talks of the film Star Wars it's gotta be A New Hope.

Anyway, the poll will probably only be there today so get to it quick, at the moment only 52% say yes!

    Be cool

    Stone

    My votes in. Obviously....yes.

Though my media teacher ridiculed me for my love of SW, saying its just a rip off of Metropolis.

Yeah. Like Cloud City actually first appeared in Star Trek: The Original Series, for example. ;)

Its not a rip-off if its a combination of elements from all those movies, but with its own touch and style. Its own characters, story, etc.

Its almost impossible not to rip-off anything in Sci-fi/fantasy anymore.

Its like saying a movie shot in a real world city is a rip-off of another movie set in another real world city.

But anyway yeah, I voted SW as the best!

Even if it is ripped off, it's combination of all best aspects of Sci Fi movies makes it the best.

    I heart you, SW.

    I like the current poll:

"Do you think Keith Richards really snorted his father's ashes?"

Yeah I noticed this poll today - while it would normally annoy me that SW was beaten by another film, in this case I don`t mind too much as it was "Serenity" that beat it........maybe THIS will persuade them to make another film....[face_thinking]

A New Hope falls well short of movies like Alien, Aliens, Blade Runner, Terminator, Terminator 2, Predator, Predator 2, Serenity, Star Trek II, Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi, Revenge Of The Sith, and Attack Of The Clones just to name a few, so no, I couldn't give ANH my vote.

    boooooooring

and the Predator movies don't compare well to either Star Wars or all the others you listed. Don't get me wrong, I love the Predator, I think it's the coolest creature in cinema ever, but the movies feel a lot different from the others.

Different how? Admittedly they are a different beast, they would fall under the military/creature sub-genre of sci-fi, but they are still sci-fi.

You have to put a big IMO next to that one! Only on TFN would you hear a statement like that!

I totally agree. Serenity sucked ass. Star Wars atleast had a great plot and good acting..it's also not overly sci fi because theres an element of reality behind it all.

No, there's no need to put a big "IMO" next to it, it's a statement that I stand by, playing the childish, "IMO" game wouldn't change that.

Sorry, have to disagree....Serenity ALSO had a great plot and great acting....and WHICH of the two are you trying to say isn`t "overly sci fi"??[face_thinking]
