That's a cool idea. I hadn't thought about it before, but it'd be nice to see that picked up on from Book of Sith's section on saber materials.

Somewhat off-topic, but I never understood why no one ever carried a cortosis dagger of the type of cortosis seen in SW Purge (the original) and used that as a "sword breaker" in duels. Probably because it's ridiculously overpowered and immediately wins the fight.

Your post had a bunch of unnecessary words in it.

I think DigitalMessiah was asking about the in-universe reason.

Zahn went out of his way to limit the utility of cortosis when he introduced it (though I suppose Stackpole did first in I, Jedi). But it's described as extremely brittle and easily damaged by blaster bolts, grenades, etc., and even the lightsaber damages it, but it shuts it off. So its only real utility is to make it take a ridiculously long time to cut through a wall with a lightsaber.

Then... the EU did what it does.

Because it would challenge a writer to think of outside of the box ways for a saber-user to combat something like that and may require some cleverness and creativity.

I do like how Vader promptly snapped Shadday's neck after she rendered his lightsaber useless. "You got cortosis? Well I have strength to break your neck with my hand! And now I have your cortosis sword, too."

This brings up an interesting point that every time we see a saber duel, most of the characters forget about the force other than for acrobatics. Very rarely do we see them pitch objects at each other, or trip their opponent with the force, or even simply blow air in their faces to make them blink. Its a very overlooked detail that should come up more than just "hit the sabers against each other like they were swords and jump around a lot".

Yes, the force can play a great role in dodging, and getting to places that a normal duelist couldn't, not to mention boosting your strength and stamina, but there's so much more to be done with it that's just overlooked more often than not.

Same may apply to Mandalorian iron- early EU tended to portray it as tough- but still fairly cuttable by lightsabers. Later EU, like Scourge, has tended to portray it as at most scratchable by lightsabers, and extremely hard to cut without enormous effort.

...or the Traviss books, where it's nigh-on invulnerable to it, and pretty much everything else as well.

How do you even mine and reshape metal like that anyway? I mean, if a lightsaber can't melt it, how can you melt it enough to turn into something useful in the first place?

Possebly a question about multitasking in a stressful situation. It is likely that it is way easier to just give you wuxia powers than to use the telekinesis in a more “proactive” way. But there is also probably fighting stiles/Force traditions that train you to use telekinesis or similar powers in that manner

Alchemy. The mandolorians have a small Force tradition that specialise on metallurgic alchemy. Of course they would never admit that that those Forge Masters are actually using the Force

Theoretically, EU characters appearing in Rebels could be cool, but after TCW's portrayal of Quinlan Vos, I'm not so sure.

Talon Karrde voiced by guest actor Bruce Campbell with Autolycus' characterization would be acceptable.
