The Oscar nominations haven't been finalised yet. I think they're announced on Feb 11th.

I had to do some research to find all those award listings. I'm surpised how well the OT was received by the Academy. Even ROTJ, considered the weakest of the trilogy, had a lot of nominations.

the BAFTA nominations were just announced and AOTC got nominated for NOTHING, it's not even among the 5 nominated films for Visual Effects (they are TTT, HP2, SM, GONY and MR)

    Thoughts?

It's a bad day to be British. Down with me!

I'd hope for at least a couple Oscar noms for AOTC. Nothing at all from the Baftas is very disappointing to me.

I'm Irish but I nevertheless find it a bit sad that the BAFTAS have sold out that much to Hollywood. I mean, all it now wants to be is a second-rate Oscar, it has nothing at all to do anymore with the British film industry or even with British cinema. Half the films nominated have not been released in Britain in 2002.

Oh, and Magdalene Sisters is an Irish film!!

If they nominated James Bond, for Orange Film of the Year, then it can't be taken seriously.

How can AOTC not be nominated for Visual effects? That erks me. ATOC had way better effects then SM. The Clone Wars, digital actors, speeder chase, Come on!!! Do not tell me there is no bias against SW. It is so obvious with things like this. SM effects were nothing. just a guy flying on a string. This is BS!!!! AOTC is right there with TTT, HP. How can GONY have better effects then AOTC. Where were those effects anyway? I did not see any effects. What the blood? Come on people. AOTC deserves nominations a tleast. Not crying if it does not win but should be recognizes for its visual effects. BS I tell you!!!

    Oscar Hopes for Visual Effects
    Sun, Jan 26, 03 01:06:13 PM EST

"The Toronto Star this Sunday features a new article on the Academy Award hopes for 2002 film releases. Among the discussion is a mention of Attack of the Clones, getting attention for f/x work and not for acting:
A browse through the Oscarwatch FYC Gallery (oscarwatch.100megs18.com/FYC) shows some interesting strategy this year. There are fewer big-studio movies being hyped, as pre-Oscar buzz and acclaim for the work of mini-studios Miramax (Chicago, Gangs Of New York) and New Line (The Lord Of The Rings, About Schmidt) have made 2002 another year of independence for the Oscars ? or what passes for independence in Hollywood.
And the movies that are being pushed are getting fewer FYC ads than in the past, including such frontrunners as Chicago and The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers.

"I don't know why this is happening this way but I do recall seeing bigger, splashier campaigns in other years, like for Ali and The Shipping News and The Majestic," Stone said via email. "Maybe because those movies went nowhere, it sent a message to the studios that they have to try a different way of marketing their Oscar films. Maybe this is why the so-called independents have flourished."

There also seems to be more restraint this year in the number of "considerations" being called for, with less category carpet-bombing than in the past. The marketers of Star Wars and Spider-Man, for example, apparently harbour no Best Picture or Best Actor delusions, preferring to lobby for special-effects awards that are more their domain."

Yoda's duel with Count Dooku was named the "Scene of the Year" at the Empire Awards.

    Empire Online reports:

"The Sony Ericsson Award for Best Scene of the year was a shoo-in for George Lucas' climactic showdown with an overwhelming number of votes naming Episode II's lightsaber duel between Yoda and Count Dooku the year's most memorable moment. Dooku himself, Christopher Lee, took time off from terrorising the galaxy to accept the award."
