It's called Deciding To Hate Something Before It's Even Released Syndrome. Incurable.

Dear god it's a good thing you're not leading the design team.

To me, it looks too much like a combination of Samurai and hockey player, not "Star Warsy."

Preconceptions, including head canons, are pretty stubborn. I remember Snoke's appearance being dismissed as a combo of Palpatine, Gollum, and Voldemort.

Not really feeling the red guards. Hopefully that will change on screen. But why not black guards or silver, why red?

No, just commenting on a costume that looks bad and has me concerned. I wouldn't love a movie without seeing it yet, either.

It's an update of this costume from Return of the Jedi.

Better design overall but the updated version is meh. Or why not come up with a completely new design?

How are they even supposed to be able to see out of that helmet? There's not even an eye slit of any sort.

Other than the color it pretty much is a completely new design.

Perhaps they are machines and not humans?

That's possible but it looks like armor on humanoid characters to me.

They have futuristic technology. It's not hard to imagine that inside the helmets they have some sort of readout display or something.

Probably a hybrid of some sort. It would be interesting if they were Palpatine's royal guards from Return of the Jedi but were forced as servants to Snoke and modified as hybrid guards.

Looking at the helmed closely, you can see a discolored square around where their eyes would be, so the lines probably have spaces between them, letting them see out of the helmets the way you'd see out of shutter shades.

Maybe, but there's nothing cool or interesting looking about such a blank mask.

It's either that, eyes, or some sort of slit like Boba Fett or the Imperial guards have. So basically, do what's been done before for various stormtrooper or bounty hunter variations, or go with a different kind of design we haven't seen before. In terms of interesting, the facelessness evokes the idea that they're devoted loyalists to Snoke without any sense of personal self, basically people that live, breath and die for one purpose, while also evoking defensive fencing masks.

I think a faceless look is indeed cool and very unnerving. Humans are hard-wired to look at someone's head and face when, well, facing them, and this messes with that neurological need.

Also, I imagine they will blend into that red wall behind them, thus making it very difficult to fight them effectively.

Star Wars: A story where people move large objects with their minds, massive slugs live inside asteroids, and cities float among the clouds.

But the greatest mystery of all: some people can see through masks with no eyeholes!

Will we ever find out how? Stay tuned for the next installment, and you just might.

The Praetorian guards are clearly the rest of Luke's students turned evil, infuriated at his stupid way of teaching them how to use the Force. "Just keep swinging that lightsaber, you'll block it eventually. Ooh, that looked like it kind of hurt. Don't worry, it took me a couple of tries, you'll get the swing of it. Ha, get it, swing? Because you're swinging a– oh, stop crying, the training probe isn't shooting you in the same spot intentionally."
