This concept art is from the canceled in-house KOTOR 3 in development at LucasArts before the 2004 restructuring that got more than half the workforce fired and saw the ROTS game moved to The Collective. Note the 2004 date on the artwork. LucasArts is completely focused on TFU right now, so much so that no real production work has been done on the Indy game (their next project).

yeah, I did notice that 2004 date. You're probably right. But either way, the fact that all of these characters seem to be named must mean that a story line had already been fleshed out. Wish we knew what it was...

I want there to be a KOTOR III, for the simple fact KOTOR II left things wide open. I want closure.

Well, there's also the fact I loved both games, and love RPGs in general...

Ok so first of all I have a relative working with Obsidion and they informed me that there is indeed going to be a kotor3 ok the day out is still on the dl. but from what i know, 1.) its gonna be made by Bioware and Obsidion 2.) You get to play as more then just your everyday human characters(theres even talk of allowing players to choose races i.e Twilek and droids i.e.Hk-47 model as your main playable character. theyre trying to blend it into playing like Jade Empire...in the essense of gameplay etc.

Cross your fingers and I'll try to see if i can get more intel

But in the "True Sith" thread, you said you work for Obsidian. Keep your stories straight, sir (and I use that word in the loosest possible sense).

I can't be the only one that's very skeptical with this.

Typically, until a game is officially announced, employees of companies don't have a habit of telling everyone they know about it. Non-disclosure agreements, and all that jazz.

And considering the "features" you listed, it sounds more like a fanboy/girl list, than what would actually be included in the game, as if K3 is actually made, there's a 99.9% probability that the PC will be human, and a Jedi.

Call me pessimistic, but I've seen so many "my dad/mom/uncle/aunt/cousin/friend/etc. works for such and such and told me top secret information" posts hundreds of times before, and usually by proclaiming features that they want to see.

I guess you missed every post subsequent to that one, eh, GoA?

You're not the only one that's suspicious.

And the Rise of Dark Falls is real, Hav. It's just really rare and only available on eBay.

Am I the only one who does NOT want KOTOR III to be about "Revan, the exile, and the True Sith", but instead wants it to focus on new characters and the Republic?

Well, I'd be very disappointed if KOTOR III wouldn't be about said characters. The story isn't finished, why start something new?

Pretty much. We don't really need a whole new cast just yet. We do need to finish up this trilogy.

Every game should have been about an all new cast. Like Final Fantasy, except instead of literally changing worlds/settings, you'd just be leaping forward/back millennia each time.

    Alas....

I don't mind the main character and your party being different (although it would be nice to have some returning members) but I'd like to see them tie up the stories of Revan and the Exile in the course of the game.

Or, put another way, I wouldn't care if the plot has nothing to do with Revan and the Exile, provided the plot was about going after them and discovering they had died but defeating the enemy they couldn't or whatever. Not quite like that, as I've just made that up off the top of my head, but I think KOTOR3 needs to have something to do with them at least.

That said, I'd rather you got to play as them. Emphasis on the "them". To make KOTOR3 an improvement and further evolution of the engine I don't see what would be impossible about allowing you to create two characters for the game. If they can create male/female dialogue for one character, I don't see why it can't work for two, albeit it'd involve more work.

The other option I'm open to is the idea someone mentioned before about Revan being the bad guy and you playing the Exile. I could see myself liking that quite easily. We've seen so little of Revan as the villain, even in the comics, so having a fall from grace and some final Shakespearean tragedy to his story could be good.

I concur... it would work rather nicely with Malak's words at the end of KotOR I, too.

"Foolish words. The darkness and the light wage a constant war within you. The balance is tipped one way now... but it can easily be tipped back."

Providing of course, that the Exile doesn't tell anyone what became of Revan in the Unknown Regions and lets the galaxy remember him as a hero, as you suggested elsewhere.

Playing the Exile makes the most sense from a gameplay perspective, too, because there's an in built story excuse to reduce her in power: if she leaves her present companions behind, she'll need to find new FS companions and make new bonds in order to become powerful once again. She seems to eavesdrop on other people's midi-chlorians through her bonds, after all.

I wouldn't mind Revan not being a villian, either, mind. A couple of years ago, I suggested that the first half of the game should be about playing the Exile, trying to find and save an imprisoned Revan. Then, you finally find him, finally save him... only for the Exile to be killed in the process. Then you finish things off as Revan. Or something like that.

Why should KOTOR III directly continue the storyline of TSL, anyway? This kind of "continuity porn" is exactly what ruined the post-ROTJ era, and exactly what both Avellone and JJM hoped to avoid by rotating the cast.

Make a few passing references to the first two games to wrap them up, then make the third game about different characters entirely.

    It worked for TSL.

    Heck, it worked for NWN2.

TSL was essentially a continuation though. You may not have played as Revan but it was still set in the same era and explored the aftermath of the Jedi Civil War. If they wanted to do something completely different they'd have jumped to the New Sith Wars or something and never mentioned Revan or the Jedi Civil War at all.

As for NWN2, while it was a totally different story, there were still sequels to NWN1, they were just treated as expansions instead, the same way Mask of the Betrayer is the sequel to NWN2. I've always seen NWN2 as just meaning the second generation engine since it has absolutely nothing to do with NWN1 unlike the way TSL and KOTOR were very closely linked. TSL is actually a direct sequel to KOTOR, I don't really see NWN2 as a "sequel" to NWN1, its just happens to be called NWN.

You don't have to have a neverending ongoing continuity like post-ROTJ to have a closely linked trilogy the way, say, Mass Effect is likely to be. I want KOTOR to end with KOTOR3 and then move to another era, preferably the New Sith Wars, but to do that they really need to round off the trilogy, as it'd make no sense at all for characters in 1500 BBY to be referencing the events of KOTOR3 the way TSL referenced KOTOR.
