For anyone interested, you can now sign up for the beta.

 

The website is down for "scheduled" maintenance. Are you sure it's not just heavy web traffic?

 

That was my guess, after seeing this last post and going right there, i tried about 20 times to login to apply and it kept timing out.

 

I guess patience will be the better part of my zeal to get in on the beta.

 

Their site is getting crushed right now. Might be a while before everyone gets filtered through.

 

Yeah, the facebook group is abuzz and it's no surprise the site failed. Let's just hope the game has more reliability than the website.

 

Oh how awesome. I hope the site is up soon so I can sign up.

Someone on the boards has to get into the beta so we all can be kept aware of the game's development. I hope I'm that person.

 

Not if they make you agree to an NDA.

 

I've never done a beta so are those common in beta-tests? I can't imagine they'd want to clamp down on players giving free hype to the game's development.

 

I've already signed up. I saw the news at the official ToR site a couple of mins after it was posted and I was able to sign up with no problems. That doesn't mean I'll get in though. They don't even have a date for the beta. At least they haven't announced one. The good thing is, everyone is going to have more than one chance of getting in, even though it'll be hard with the number of players that'll sign up. They said that there are going to be different test sessions where different features/stuff of the game will be tested and they want new testers for each of those. That means that if someone didn't get picked up at first, he could still get picked up later.

 

beta's usually do have NDA's, especially when they aren't too near to release. However, the fact that they are having a beta in the first place suggests that the game is a lot further along than I had ever hoped/dreamed. So who knows?

 

If it's a closed beta it's very possible they'd make you agree to an NDA. The reason they do that is so they don't get unwanted attention from the community about stuff that's subject to change at a moments notice.

I was in the Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria closed beta last year and we had to agree to an NDA not to talk about the game period until the NDA was lifted.


EDIT: I'm pretty surprised beta signups have started already. That's a good sign about how polished the game is becoming.

 

Here are some details for those that didn't get to visit the site before it crashed.

 

I like that they will be rotating testers. One thing I noticed when I was beta for LOTRO:MoM was how the testers that had been there since the beginning snubbed their nose at new testers and treated us like crap. It was weird how cliquish the testing server was.

 

Site is back up, albeit very slow.

Site is back up. Finally got the beta app submitted.

 

I will not be beta testing - the thought of working for a company to help them make their game without getting paid irks me...plus it's like playing an unfinished product or watching an unedited movie, sort of spoils it...

But hats off to you all for being eager to do so, make sure and find all the kinks and bugs before I start playing please =)

 

I'm still having trouble even get to the site.

 

Finally got the sign up to work last night. Took me a long time once I was finally able to access the site. I'd like to think I've a chance of getting into the beta. I bought a new computer about seven months ago with the idea of having it geared toward this game.
