does anyone else find this possibility slightly disturbing, yet intriguing as well?

In the case of TPM it might be a good idea if we didn't have to listen to the stilted dialogue. Then again, who knows - maybe the visual/audio experience is more important than the actual dialogue being spoken?
I think the music alone could carry most of the emotional aspects of the story very well.

JW method of scoring is to watch the film without sound added to it. It sounds like a good idea, perhaps I'll try it one day.

Horrifies me! The music is a script in it's own right and works with the film as an organic whole.

Star Wars would work very well as a silent film.

I think it would work the other way around.
Take out the words and put in all of the music and you can simply see the emotion that runs through the film.

If you haven't tried this, do it. Get your TPM:UE and put it on while waching the movie. I know, it does get a bit off sometimes but it works.

    ;D

we'll all get to find out what it's like when the TPM DVD hits. you KNOW that an isolated score is gonna be one of the extras.

    Peace,

If I get the right equipment and a few composing skills. I'd love to view Star Wars w/o sound and see what kind of score I'd come up with.

Who knows? It might not be on the DVD, but I hope so.

OOh, if the movie with just the music is an option on the DVD, that would make it tempting to invest in the equipment... We are currently a TV-free household, and quite happy that way...

Modern culture has so acclimated us to hearing background music during movies that it's almost eerie to listen to a movie without a score nowadays.

I started a theead earlier( I don't know where I put it :D) that was bout film scores and the power of silnece.

The birds has no soundtrack, and Private Ryan has no sountrack when there are fight scenes. I thought it would be cool to have the clone wars without music. I always try to picture the battle of hoth without music. It would be pretty potent i think, if not cool.
