It is there that the Sith were first born. Located in the Esstran sector, it is the sole planet in the Horuset system. It is now home to the burial grounds of countless Dark Lords of the Sith from across the ages. It is a land cursed and warped by the corrupt energies of the Dark Side of the Force. It is without salvation.
    It is without hope.
    Korriban.
It is there that strange readings were detected by Jedi Council scout ships. It is there to which multiple probes have been deployed, each one's signal vanishing as it passed through the ionosphere. It is to there you and your masters have been sent, with one task: investigate and determine the nature of the powerful energy fluctuations emanating from the planet's surface, to the best of your abilities.
    Korriban.
It is there that the ship's systems failed and a crash landing was made. It is there that you were isolated, left alone to fend against the beasts with your fellow Padawan learners. It is a land in which you will find the answers you seek. It is a catalyst which will forever change the galaxy.
And it is there that you recall the final message that flashed across the monitors of your now-downed vessel:

    Greetings, Padawans.

As you are aware, your masters have been selected to comprise the core of the Korriban Investigation mission. In the thousands of years that have passed since the reformation of the Jedi Order by Grand Master Skywalker, no reconnaissance undertaking of this scale has ever been undertaken. Consequently, the Council has decided that you are to accompany your masters, as this should prove to be a unique training opportunity.

The vessel on which you will be leaving Coruscant, the CSV-Illiad, has been especially designed for this investigation. It is equipped with full living facilities for each crew member, multiple information collecting and scanning devices, the latest in medical droids and facilities, and sufficient food and supplies to last approximately five times the anticipated duration of the mission. The onboard hyperdrive navigational system, AJAX, is state-of-the-art. The chances of any operational failures is estimated in the low billionths of a percentile. Nothing save the will of the Force itself could force the Illiad down.

As for Korriban itself, this archival image predates the current signal phenomenon by about ten years. The source of the phenomenon is wholly unknown to the Council at this time, however, it is speculated that the phenomenon, coupled with the strong Dark Side energies already present on the planet, may have resulted in the abnormal mutation of the naturally occurring flora and fauna. Such mutations would almost certainly make traversing the actual surface a highly dangerous exercise. Accordingly, it is recommended that extreme caution should be exercised in the eve

"Well, this is odd. I hadn't expected you for some time yet. Ah well. What's done is done.
"I look forward to making all of your acquaintances. We're going to have so much fun together."

it is recommended that extreme caution should be exercised in the event of surface exploration. Lightsabers should be carried at all times should more aggressive defensive tactics become necessary.

The Council wishes you the utmost success on your missions. Please review the attached guidelines, and may the Force be with you.

Brief Biography (Optional): Born on Yag'Dhul, Vig was taken at a young age by the Jedi to be raised on Ossus. Since he was raised by the Jedi, he never learned the xenophobic tendencies of many others of his race had. Instead he was raised to view his skills in mathmatics as simply another tool to use, not something that made him better or worse than anyone else. By the time he was 10 he was already surpassing his instructors in mathmatics. By 16 he was already able to plot simple astronavigation courses in his head. Because of his grasp of mathmatical probabilities and the Force, he was very adept at sensing danger in many situations. But his skills do leave him suceptible to overconfidance which has been a problem many times in his training. As he has progressed he has improved, but he is still not immune.

His helmet is angular and suggests a calm, laughing face. Beneath this armour, Irrak's skin is a deep purple, and his face is noble and reptilian. The armour may have been Mandalorian at some point, but Irrak has tailored it to suit his purposes. It is customary for Gen'Dai to use armour to provide a form for their malleable bodies.

    • Brief Biography (Optional): The full details of Irrak's whole 314 year life could fill volumes, and yet by the reckoning of his species, he is but an adolescent. His life has been generally uneventful, at least as far as he has been concerned, and yet here he is, a Gen'Dai Jedi padawan. Like most Gen'Dai, his existence was largely nomadic until discovered by the Academy. Irrak's life had been aimless, and he had sought something to provide a deeper meaning for decades until his discovery of the Jedi Order.

For how long did they sleep? Minutes? Hours? Days? When they awoke, none of them could say for sure. They would remember only the scream of warning sirens, the flashing of monitors entering a critical state, their Masters' reminders not to panic, and finally the last words.

They presumed they were words for, truth be told, the symbols belonged to no system of writing known to galactic history. Utterly alien, utterly indecipherable. But there was something at the same time… familiar about their appearance. It was a familiarity none of the Padawans could recognize.

From there followed only darkness, save for a cryptic dream that, if they were so inclined to investigate, they would discover was shared amongst them.

In the dream there had been an endless stone hallway, and far down this hallway, a figure. It had seemed humanoid, but was impossible to identify owing to the distance. Yet when it spoke, its voice came from everywhere except from its position. It spoke the Padawan's native tongue as flawlessly as the Padawan themselves could.
"Well, this is odd. I hadn't expected you for some time yet. Ah well. What's done is done.
"You have been anticipated here. While the accommodations can take adjusting to, I believe they will ultimately be to your liking. We have gone to great lengths to prepare ourselves for your arrival.
"I look forward to making your acquaintance more properly next time. For now, please consider the following a gift."
The figure's arm stretched out before it, and in its hand was a lightsaber hilt.
"Use it with my blessing. The practical considerations can come later."

Such was the state of affairs the Padawans found themselves in as they began to awaken. Their surroundings were alien, but not wholly unrecognizable - Korriban still bore a striking resemblance to archival images. Sand-blasted ebony ruins and scorched earth were visible in all directions, until at last the views were interrupted by large, rough hewn cliffs.

The ship was nowhere to be seen - neither, it seemed, were their Masters. There was not even a scattering of debris to suggest their method of arrival. This would no doubt strike some of them as curious, others would consider it but one in a long list of the day's curiosities.

And to that list, we could also add, there was the most peculiar phenomenon of all - whereas from orbit the planet had appeared the same mixture of mottled brown it had always assumed, from the surface the sky appeared crimson red, and swirled with strange, contradictory winds. In the sky hung a black sun which yet gave light. To either side it was surrounded by three black stars, six in total, clearly farther off. These, too, seemed to give light.

How would the Padawans react to all of these unprecedented stimuli? Read on.

"Use it with my blessing. The practical considerations can come later.

As a moment of panic fill his mind he fumbled for his lightsaber which was still safely clipped to his belt. He looked at the sleek matte black hilt with relief as he watched the white blade rise from the emitter.

Still trying to calm the adrenaline pumping through his body he noticed something that shook him to his core. He stood up and took a long look at the sun, stark black yet still giving off light, and how it resembled his lightsaber. But Vydraa felt unsettled not because of the similarity between the sun and his lightsaber, but because his lightsaber was a reflection of himself. The fact that this mysterious planet has already connected to him in some way made him truly uneasy and confused.

He glanced around at the other Padawans, thinking about his last memory of sirens wailing and the ship failing, and noticed the ship was nowhere to be seen.

Holding onto his necklace with one hand, the only thing linking him to his vague Mandalorian heritage and the other holding his still-ignited lightsaber, he thought to himself

I have a bad feeling about this...

They were crashing. Vig looked around the bridge of the ship to see Jedi running from console to console trying to determine what was causing the multiple failures. The collision klaxons were blaring in his ears, almost to the point of being deafening. His heart dropped as he looked to the altitude readouts, his Givin brain calculating their speed on the fly as he watched the number shrink closer and closer to zero.

He then felt a familiar three fingered hand on his shoulder. “Peace. Trust in the Force. Remember the code. All will be well.” Vig took his masters words to heart and began to slow his breathing, using the techniques he taught him. He turned to his master, “Thank you master.”

    Then the world went black.

“Use it with my blessing. The practical considerations can come later.”

Vig awoke laying on his back, he could feel the sand against his hard exoskeleton, course against the few parts of his skin that weren’t covered by his long sleeved, black padawan tunic. He opened his eyes and was greeted by a sight almost as strange as his dream. The sky looked like it was on fire, the red clouds and sky swirling in a manner impossible in nature. In the middle of it all sat the black sun surrounded by six smaller points of light. Now that’s interesting.

His memories of the crash then came rushing back to him. He sat up strait looking all around him. He could see the other padawans coming to the same as he was. But what stuck him as most odd was that there was no sign of the crash. No crater when the impact should have happened, no smoke or debris anywhere to be found. Nothing.

He heard behind him, the snap-hiss of Vydraa checking his lightsaber. He looked down to see his own hanging from his belt, its sharp lines and polished metal reflecting the red sky. He looked to everyone else, “Is everyone alright?”

He remembered nothing as to how they arrived here. His eyes were irritated by the contrast of the light from a black star and the red sky. Laying flat on his back, Holt'Lee pushed himself into a sitting position and rubbed as his eyes.

"Use it with my blessing. The practical considerations can come later."

A dream. That must have been where that came from. The dream to be more specific because that was the only thing he remembered. He opened his eyes and instantly, through the Force, he could feel his fellow padawans and the loud absence of their masters. Holt'Lee couldn't sense any of them and as he surveyed the surroundings he noticed that there was no ship either. This all was extremely disorienting and it made him feel sick to his stomach. He did not trust his head or legs right now and felt exhausted from a trip he did not remember, but he knew they would eventually have to move from where they were. Wherever they were.

Groaning as he did so, Holt'Lee came to his feet with the nausea in his stomach rising as well. "We-" His mouth was dry that he could barely finish his word. He cleared his throat. "I think we're all fine, feeling sick though." Holt'Lee stopped and just looked around them. Barren desert and broken brown ruins in the distance. It was not through the Force that he could sense that there would be trouble and danger in the future for them. "This kind of goes without saying...But I have a bad feeling about this..."

It occurred to him to ask a question. "Anyone remember anything?"

Cain felt his vision going black as sirens and warnings went off around him. He was fighting it though, struggling to remain conscious.

“Breathe, Cain. Breathe,” his master said soothingly.

Taking a deep breath, Cain replied, “Yes Master Dor.”

With that, Cain began a breathing regime and entered a meditative state as things became black.

    ---

“Use it with my blessing. The practical considerations can come later.”

Cain coughed spraying a little dust out in front of his face. He saw the desolate landscape of Korriban on the right and the red sky on his left then rolled to his back to stare up at the sky. A black sun became visible. I’m in it now.

Cain moved his right hand to his belt and felt his lightsaber was still there. He then became aware of others around him starting to stir. Cain sat up ran his hand along the right side of his buzzed hair brushing out some of the dirt and dust, and then stood, brushing more dirt off his black tunic and pants.

The snap-hiss of a light saber caught his attention behind him, but through the force he knew the presence wasn’t hostile; it was one of his fellow padawans. Instead, he kept his eyes on the horizon out in front turning his head to look for any signs of danger. Then he remembered the shuttle and realized there was no debris.

Cain noticed the Givin standing now.

    “Is everyone alright?”

Cain looked around at those around him taking his eyes off the horizon momentarily. Before looking he could feel they were all padawans and their masters were not in sight. He checked himself and felt no injuries. His eyes returned to the horizon, searching.

"Anyone remember anything?" asked Holt'Lee Cain turned to look at the group now.

Cain didn’t feel like mentioning the dream. It didn’t contain anything that could help them at the moment.

“I’m fine,” said Cain in response to Vig’s question. “I remember the sirens on the ship, and then nothing until now. Speaking of, any sign of the ship?”

Cyril's eyes snapped open. The last thing he remembered was the ship shaking itself apart on reentry while his master swore a bluestreak. And now he was here, lying on his back and staring up at a red sky.

Really? Of course the sky is red. It's Korriban. Homeworld of the Sith. And those guys just love red.

Blinking, Cyril took a deep breath and levered himself up into a sitting position. Around him the other Padawans were waking as well and Cyril saw their hands going to their belts to check for their lightsabers. One, a human-looking Padawan, ignited his saber, which emitted a white glow. Cyril reached for his own saber, finding comfort in the fact that it was still attached to his belt at the hip.

    “Is everyone alright?”

Cyril just held up his right hand in a thumbs up gesture.

"Yeah, I'm good. Well, as good as I can be waking up on the ground with my last memory being a ship falling apart around me."

One of the other Padawans spoke up, Cain was his name, asking if anyone had seen anything of the ship. Cyril looked around. There was nothing but ruins, hard ground, and cliffs off in the distance. He stretched out with the Force, searching for any sign of his master or even an Illiad crewmember. Nothing.

"Huh. Weird. I can sense everyone here, but not Master Kyronus. Or any other strong Force presence. Heck, I can't even feel any of the ship's crew. Just us."

Voices. Blurred, strange, yet familiar voices ran through his head.

    “Is everyone alright?”

The voice of a fellow Padawan, Vig, brought Kal to muster the strength to open his eyes. Lying face down on the hard, gritty surface of Korriban was comforting in the fact he knew he was still alive. A soft breeze traced over him, soothing him from the harsh heat toasting the ground.

Without waiting, he used his strength to pull himself up, twisting his body around and resting on his arms, his bones creaking and muscles sceaming from the battering they had just taken. From a hvision full of warning lights, flashing displays and shouts and commands from his Master, Khan, he had blacked out as the world caved in around him, voices filling his head in what sounded like a dream, but felt like reality from voices reaching out to him.

He looked down to make sure he was still in one piece. Thankfully, only his dark brown tunic suffered the worst, a couple of small tears and a layer of fine dust was nothing he couldn’t cope with. His utility belt was still in good condition, and more importantly his silver lightsaber hilt was still attached.

Using the Force, he calmed his racing mind about the events that had just taken place and slowly stood up; looking around to survey the stunning yet mysterious surroundings of the planet, but also headcount his fellow Padawans. It was only the Masters who were not present, but they had probably gone to seek help or survey the area. Kal told himself this over and over again.

He stood up steadily and rubbed himself down, once again head counting his friends to convince himself this wasn’t as bad as he knew it was.

He looked around once more and reached out with the Force, looking for his master of any other sign of people. He could sense nothing of his master or any of the crew for that matter. They were alone. He saw the Twi'lek; What was his name? Thats right Holt'lee; stand up and ask if anyone had remembered anything. He heard some of the others mention their memories of the crash. His own coming back to his mind as they recounted theirs. Cyril mentioned how he couldnt sense any of the masters or the crew. He spoke up, "I dont remember much. Just the ship going down and Master Grik'ik speaking to me. That and I had this pretty barvy dream while we were out. Seamed like it was strait out of a horror holodrama. Long dark hallway and everything. But now that you mention it. I cant sense anyone aside from us. I think I would be able to feel if my master was dead, but Korriban is a dark place. Even being here makes it harder to clear my senses."

Vig thought back to his studies of the planet from when they were preparing for the mission. He remembered how it was a Sith stronghold back when the Republic was just starting. Many powerful Sith lords were buried on this planet, along with some very evil creatures created by their dark side magic. There may be more going on here than we realize.

    Somewhere on Korriban

“Use it with my blessing. The practical considerations can come later.”

Garrod opened his eyes, frowning at the memory. Who...or rather what had been talking to him was a mystery. Even more so, was the fact that Korriban's normally (at least in the holo-records) blue sky was now an eerie reflection of the planets rust-red surface. And then there was the pitch-black star, that was somehow still illuminating the planet around him. Even for a Jedi, this was approaching sensory overload levels.

    Where are the masters?

    Who was that voice?

    What happened to the planet?

Why were we chosen instead of the Masters?

Letting out a small noise of frustration, Garrod raised his hands to his head and shook it fiercely to calm his thought process. Later he could afford to worry about everything that had happened and the implications. Right now he needed to concentrate (and so did the others) on finding shelter, and figuring out if any of them were injured. And if they could get any sense of their Masters beyond the ever-present Dark Side taint of this planet.

Getting to his (somewhat shaky) feet, Garrod reached for his belt to make sure his lightsaber was there. Detaching the grey hilt, he was relieved to see it was still his blade. Or at least, appeared to be his. With his thoughts so jumbled, Garrod couldn't be absolutely certain it was his blade, and not a replica made by whoever had stranded them here. After all, the specter had handed him a lightsaber. But again, this line of thought served no practical purpose, as Garrod watched the rest of the group talk to each other. He would wait to speak his own piece until he saw everyone was okay however...

Keeping his eyes on the black sun, not in awe anymore, but studying it as if it's going to provide answers. He heard the commotion of his fellow padawans around him and their questions, but he didn't respond to them. He knew everyone was fine or else there'd have been a different vibe in the group. His attention went from the sun to his still-lit lightsaber and back to the sun.

This can't be a coincidence...this means something. We need to start looking for answers

He turns his lightsaber off, clipped it to his belt, and drew his hood over his head while brushing the red dirt off his white sparring outfit. He wasn't a fan of the robes and hardly wore it. Instead he wore a sleeveless sparring outfit modified with a hood, and had cloth wrapped around his forearm and fists. After brushing the majority of the dirt off he turned facing his comrades and crossed his arms while saying,

"Well we should get going, this mystery won't solve itself with us standing around looking for our masters who clearly aren't here."

    IC: Aress

The Trandoshan stretched and rolled over, enjoying how the warm sun felt on her skin. This was the most realistic dream she'd ever had and Aress was beginning to wonder if it were somehow a force vision. She'd never had one before so she wasn't sure.

    Wait.

    Sun?

    What?

Her consciousness rose to the surface and a wave of pain exploded in her head. As she came to her tongue flicked out to taste the air around her before she really saw with her eyes. Her senses told her she was somewhere hot and dry. Then she remembered.

    Korriban. The ship. Sirens.

As she rolled onto her side something stuck into her hip. Her scaly hand reached down to remove it and she came away with a lightsaber hilt. How did that get there? As her memory tried to figure out how she had acquired what looked like a real lightsaber since her master had told her she wasn't ready for a real one yet, she heard noises from the others around her. A snaphiss of a lightsaber as someone, Vydraa maybe, checked to see if the blade worked. Finally a memory of a voice speaking to her about using it with their blessing. She struggled to remember the voice and finally gave up as she heaved herself to her feet.

It was then that Aress realized her master wasn't with her. In fact, she couldn't feel her master at all. That was highly unusual. They had been separated before, but Aress had always been able to feel her master. Where was Master Comas? Other padawans soon voiced their dismay at their masters being missing as well.

Her raspy voice added to their own, "I am fine, but I cannot feel my Master."

"Well we should get going, this mystery won't solve itself with us standing around looking for our masters who clearly aren't here," the one who didn't quite feel human said.

"Go where? In case you hadn't noticed there is nothing visible for miles in any direction." She replied.

The young Trandoshan Padawan was thinking the same as Kal, but it was clear something had to be done.

"Go where? In case you hadn't noticed there is nothing visible for miles in any direction."

"May I offer a suggestiom?" Kal spoke up, walking to reach his fellow Padawans, some sat and some standing.

"This is clearly an accident; something out of our control, and I do agree we should do something rather than stay here. How about we split up? Take the search a bit wider than here and see what we can find? You never know, our Masters may be over the next ridge in converse about our situation."

Kal wasn't a natural leader, but he wasn't trying to take control, simply offer a reassuring point his Master often had told him to do in uncertain times. Offer to be a beacon of light to guide the way. He held onto his dustry brown robe as the Korriban wind swept across them once more.

His eyes swept over the rocky surroundings as he had a horrible feeling something, or someone, was watching them. But after the crash landing and cryptic voices in his head, he couldn't be sure of anything.

    Somewhere on Korriban

The words echoed in his mind, even if he couldn’t feel his master anymore. Cain’s Master had instructed him on survival training, something he never thought he would need or use. It was linked to the self-reliance of a Jedi, in his master’s eyes. You can only rely on two things; yourself, and the Force, his master had said. The school has taught you to rely on the Force, so I will help you to rely on yourself while using the Force. Don’t be misled. Teamwork is essential, but there are times when friends and groups will fail you. You must be prepared for those times. The basics needed for survival flashed through Cain’s mind. Shelter, water, food. He should know, his survival training on Kashyyyk had been explicitly clear on the essentials.

He spoke to the group with the kind of conviction only experience could lend itself to, though he wondered if being only 16 would make others doubt him. “I agree with splitting up,” said Cain reinforcing what the other padawan, Kal, had said. “We need to find high ground so we can orient ourselves, and if two parties go in two different directions, we increase the odds of finding something. If we’re lucky, we may even see the shuttle. The next priority is shelter, then water, then food in that order. In theory, if we can locate the shuttle then we have also located shelter, water, and food. We can discuss why we are where we are once we’ve secured the essentials, but our immediate concerns come first. Solving this ‘mystery’,” Cain said mockingly, “is secondary at the moment.” He knew some of the others wouldn’t like the suggestion, but Cain saw no better option at the moment. “The best vantage point would be at the top of one of the ruins. From there we could see for many kilometers. Send two groups to two ruins to cover the most ground.”

So I'm not terribly fond of posts without content, but this is a courtesy notice that an update will be coming within about 48 hours. Unless there are any objections, I'll be working on the supposition that the group splits up.
