    >>all the movies end with a montage where no dialogue is spoken

I can't believe no one has mentioned this one until now. Also can't believe I forgot it. I had it written down before, but it didn't get copied over.

Except for TPM, R2 has to rescue or reassemble 3PO's butt in every movie.

Could include this under the Threepio sustaining damage category

"I've got a bad feeling about this": I think it's in every movie, and it's one of my favourite lines to see in fiction, too. Whenever I see it or hear it, regardless of where, it immediately brings to mind the movies.

I do wonder at the inclusion of so many repetitions of themes, though. Eventially wouldn't the film get so cluttered with stuff that *has* to be there because of "tradition" that the story is lost?

You are correct, however that was included in my orginal list.

    Whoops! My bad! Sorry!

But what about the second point: could the story kinda get buried under all the "traditional" elements? At what point does it become a parody of itself?

I'd wager that the average movie goer or even casual Star Wars fan wouldn't notice that the over listed happen in every movie. Unlike John Woo and his doves.

I've never noticed the doves. :)

That actually brings up another question: how many other films or series have the same degree or number of "traditions" the makers feel compelled to include in every project? How does it add or detract from the work?

If done right it doesn't detract at all. And provides something for fans to look for and message board fodder.

How about Terminator and "I'll be back."?

When I first read the topic title I thought this was going to be about what residents of the GFFA did on Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, etc.

However, speaking of food, what exactly did Vader sustain himself on? We know his head is fully functional and that most of his torso is still in-tact, so what does the dark lord do when that urge to get fat overtakes him?

Let's not even discuss the effect of the cause. Because we all know that no one uses the watercloset in Star Wars. :)

    THX-1138 was Lucas' first movie.

In ANH and ESB it is spoken. ex) Prisoner transfer from cellblock 1138.

In TPM and AOTC it is on the battle droids/clones

One big theme is that all the heros (or other characters even) are orphaned, which of course is a major turning point in all of their lives:

    TPM:
    Obi-Wan loses Qui-Gon

    AOTC:
    Anakin loses his mom
    Boba loses his dad

    Episode III:
Well, I'm sure a lot of people have to be orphaned in some way, right? :p

    ANH:
Luke loses his aunt and uncle
    Leia loses her family
    Luke loses Obi-Wan

    ESB:
That taun taun's poor children lose their mother. Trust me on this one.

    ROTJ:
    Luke and Leia lose Anakin

I'm sure there are a few more...

All of the movies have Anakin/Vader, Obi-Wan, C-3PO, and R2-D2, the music is done by John Williams, the FX are done by ILM, and they all have a Darth who wears black and uses a red lightsaber.

here's another one, in every movie some one shouts: "NOOOO!"

    TPM: Obi when Qui dies

    AOTC: Qui-gon's ghost

    ANH: Luke when obi-wan dies

ESB: Luke again when Vader tells him the news

ROTJ: Luke when vader finds out about Leia? not sure on this one

    Re: 1138

Well, well, well. I was right. There's yet another Star Wars easter egg in the Monkey Island games.
In the fourth one, with that big time travel Song-of-storms paradox, Guybrush says to himself the number he's thinking of is "1138"

It's nice having the liberties to make fun of your own things.

Also, when is Qui-gon's ghost in AOTC?
I feel stupid asking that, but I'd like to know.
