Thanks for the info! We will plan to be there early on Friday.

I am so excited to get to go to Starfest again!

The last time I went was the year we all did red-shirts...it's been awhile.

Any ideas for group this year?

And that is probably the real reason by husband is willing to come... I have made him watch Firefly. :D

They have not started collecting info for panels/activities yet, as they are still trying to determine what that space will be. I'll be sure to forward that info to you when I get it.

I know we probably have our main charity up, but I'd like to offer a second suggestion or maybe just a donation jar.

I'm not sure if you folks know about Leah Esquenazi, but she's a little member of our Star Wars Community, who has had a very tough time in her short life. She celebrates her first birthday later this month, and has a hard road ahead.

    Warning:
    Heartwrenching read below:

There's also a public group. I'm a member of the Angels, too, which is closed.

I hope that we can help out our little princess a bit.

So, it's official. I won't be able to make it out for Starfest this year. :_| Plane reservations for my sister and her kids were made, and SF is smack in the middle of their visit. Unfortunately she couldn't shift it because the boys' vacation week from school is right over SF weekend. I'm excited to have them out here, but I'm going to miss you guys sooooo much!

What's another good time to come see everyone this year? I unfortunately can't make Denver Comic Con either due to father's day. I'm kicking myself for not figuring out earlier (than Sat morning) that I should have flown out for Galaxyfest this weekend. What is another good weekend ...? My main criteria is a good weekend to hang out and have fun with everyone.

Yeah, Kim and I were talking about the BBQ. It depends on when it is. I'll also be down in San Diego that month, and a week earlier than normal for some unknown reason.

CVI is on the list of possibilities, but I don't know how many people from here will end up going? Honestly at this point I go to that con solely to hang out with you guys. So part of my decision process will be waiting to see who else goes. Plus, well, HOT. And more expensive.

Are we doing a panel this year (other than the movie Friday night)? I'll be sending in the panel request for the 501st tomorrow and don't want to interfere with this group's panel plans. If a panel request was submitted please let me know what times you requested so I don't request the same times. I've already submitted the Droid panel for Sunday 10ish or noonish in the Aspen room for the projector. Thanks.

Does anyone here know about/have an update regarding the "You must have a wristband in order to work the table" thing?

There has been discussion other places and I know there will be some people who will not volunteer (including myself) if I have to pay to do it since I don't give two-twits about the panels or dealer rooms.

I dont see how they could enforce that unless they put the fan tables in the center of the atrium. Seems silly to me if they do that.

That's the way it was a couple years ago when, at least our table, was in the middle.

So you can't park in the garage unless you're a guest, you can't park across the street for free, you can't even hang out with friends without buying a badge?!? It's getting to be that this con isn't a freeloader's paradise anymore. It sure was nice the past few years, for me at least, to be able to come to this con, not spend the night, not spend money on an admission that I wouldn't use, and just spend my money on booze for my friends to party in somebody's hotel room at night.

    How times change...

    Here is the official word:

Additionally, everyone sitting at a table or behind the table should have a Starfest membership wristband. Security will be looking for them and will have the option of escorting you to registration to get one. This comes from Steve Walker who noticed last year that not everyone at the tables had a wristband. If you want to be a part of Starfest, you need a membership.

There is some talk on the RL forums that there may be "Volunteer/table badges available that will not allow you into the dealer room etc." Will try to have additional information at the meeting on Sunday.

I actually just spoke with someone at the Marriott. They said that people should be free to roam about in the lobby/bar/open areas "since they can't say NO to somoneone who is a guest at the hotel (and there will be some of those poor unaware people) & is just walking around as long as it isn't in restricted access areas."

My impression: if you are just walking around, they shouldn't be able to say anything to you but if you are obviously participating (because you are working a booth) then they can ask for a wristband.

Saturday nights, the only thing they care about is the entrance to the Fed Ball (aka nerds attempt to hook up) and the entrance to the main room for the costume contest.
