The stars are back as part of April Fool's, I hope? After all, I think we pretty much decided that we didn't really want stars around.

 

I don't particularly mind them, but we have them on IGN all the time (as well as post count under names), so maybe I'm just numb.

 

They've beirfly been turned on several times followed by threads like this one where people vow to post more to get the next star or flaunt an absurd amount of posts in an attempt to validate their life or possible to try and convince others they must have a massive phallus.

Yes, I'm hoping that the mods are right now just being slow in turning these silly, nonsense things off.

I don't spam for stars. I spam in order to overtake Sape again (damn sickness and extended weekend-trip).

I don't mind the stars, really.

Actually, when I first started, I got afriad because I thought I'd get banned if I posted something that would just up my post count (and get me more stars). I don't know if that was actually the case, but it kept me from spamming back in those early days, when I probly would have spammed.

So now, this big yellow star is WELL-EARNED!

I hope they stay.

To the administration: Please let us keep out beautiful, shiny stars! If people spam, you can always ban them; IMHO, there's not reason to take the stars away from all of us just because some people might feel tempted to spam in order to up their post counts.

Also, it's not like everyone here strives for stars/a high post count to begin with. I know quite a few users who are rather embarrassed about having a high post count. "OMG, 5978 posts since Sep. 02! I don't have a life!! " - like that.

Plus, even with the stars turned off, people know about them, anyhow. I mean, how often do people say to someone who just made his 5000th post, "Congrats on earning the big gold star, w00t!"? So even with the stars being "invisible", users are still "stars conscious" (and "post count conscious") just the same. And it's not like the JC has drowned in meaningless spam because of that. Just look at Bib Fortuna, Twi'lek, for example - he's probably the most "post count conscious" user on the JC, yet he's also known for doing intelligent posts in discussions. So you can be proud of your post count (and your stars), and still do intelligent, thoughtful posts.

So you might as well leave the stars turned on, and let them beautify the boards. JMO.

I actually really liked them and asked to keep them. But it looks as if they were removed and so since this isn't a big issue in my life, I'll move on.

It is under ?Edit Display Settings? and can only be applied to the boards as a whole. Included in this are such things as the ability to use html, faces, etc?

I liked the stars, it gave somekind of status. But I don't mind, life goes on.
